Chapter 139: Chapter 134: Huaxi Hospital vs. Hecheng City First Hospital (2)

Liang Ang waved his hand, dismissing Wang Wanguang, and began preparing for the next surgery himself.

After stepping away, Wang Wanguang found a secluded area and excitedly called his father.

”Dad, I have great news. Our department director, Professor Liang Ang, happens to be coming to Fan City for an academic conference. He’s going to bring me along and will find time during a break in the event to come to Bei City Hospital and operate on Grandpa.”

”What’s more, Professor Liang said this conference will bring together the country’s top experts in hepatobiliary surgery. He’s going to ask an old friend of his, Vice President Liu Rong of Jin Country General Hospital, to assist with Grandpa’s surgery.”

”Dad, you have no idea how rare it is to have Professor Liang personally perform a surgery. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. He’s only willing to do this as a favor to me.”

Fearing his father wouldn’t grasp the weight of Professor Liang’s reputation, Wang Wanguang quickly summarized his credentials:

”Professor Liang is a leading figure in Lin Province’s medical field. He’s a specialist in the surgical treatment of liver tumors and liver cancer, exactly what Grandpa has. He’s famous nationwide for his skill in complex hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgeries, as well as Liver Transplantation.”

”Professor Liang holds multiple records for difficult surgeries at Huaxi. You probably won’t believe this, but he once successfully removed a cancerous liver tumor that weighed 12 kilograms. And the patient didn’t have a recurrence after the surgery. This time, Grandpa is saved!”

Wang Wanguang was beaming with pride as he finished speaking.

”Then what about the team from Fan City First Hospital led by Director Huo, the one your cousin invited? Should we have them examine Grandpa first, so they can provide a reference for Professor Liang?”

After all, Wang Hongqing had already told Wang Lianjun to invite Huo Yun’s team.

Hearing it was a team from City First Hospital, Wang Wanguang let out a soft laugh.

”Dad, are you getting confused? The director of City First Hospital... To put it bluntly, even though I’m just an attending physician at Pinfan Hospital, if I wanted to, I could become the director of hepatobiliary surgery at City First Hospital with no problem at all.”

”Professor Liang has already agreed. Let’s not complicate matters. We don’t want to cause any misunderstandings with him.”

”Besides, using a team from City First Hospital as a backup option? Isn’t that an insult to Professor Liang?”

”Dad, here’s what you do. That Director Huo from City First Hospital, don’t have him examine Grandpa. When he arrives at Bei City Hospital, just give him a sizable red envelope as a gesture of goodwill. Then, tell him that we’ve already confirmed with Professor Liang Ang’s team from Pinfan Hospital, and they will be the ones performing Grandpa’s surgery.”

”If this Director Huo has any self-awareness, he won’t dare to show off in front of an expert.”

”And it’s not like we’re making him come for nothing. We’ll give him both the money and the respect.”

Wang Wanguang couldn’t care less about this so-called Director Huo.

In his eyes, City First Hospital was nothing more than a small clinic, whereas Pinfan Hospital was top-tier in the country. As an attending physician there, it was only natural for him to have high standards.

”When I get to Fan City, I’ll personally meet this Director Huo and introduce him to my department director at the conference. That should give him plenty of face.”

”And my cousin, honestly... Grandpa’s surgery is so important, and he goes and invites a director from City First Hospital. That’s what happens when you spend too long at the bottom of a well—you get a narrow view of the world.”

Wang Wanguang looked down on Wang Lianjun completely. If he didn’t even respect City First Hospital, how could he possibly think anything of Bei City First People’s Hospital?

After the call with Wang Wanguang, Wang Hongqing knew what to do. He immediately told his wife to prepare a red envelope.

A short while later, Wang Lianjun deferentially led Huo Yun and Wu Ting to the hospital room.

Wang Lianjun introduced them to his uncle:

”Uncle, this is Director Huo and Dr. Wu Ting, whom I mentioned. Their team has pioneered a brand-new combined auxiliary technique. Director Huo is already an expert in hepatobiliary tumors in Fan City, and with the boost from this new technique, his skills are comparable to the top doctors in the country.”

Hearing Wang Lianjun’s introduction, Wang Hongqing offered a smile that didn’t reach his eyes. Now that he had a truly top-tier national expert like Professor Liang Ang, why would he care about a minor director from City First Hospital? Moreover, it seemed this young doctor was the creator of this so-called combined auxiliary technique.

That was even more worrying.

”Uncle, should we proceed as planned then? Have Director Huo and Dr. Wu perform a preoperative examination on Grandpa, then hold a consultation and formulate a surgical plan?”

Wang Lianjun was still very keen on having Huo Yun and Wu Ting perform the surgery. Bei City First People’s Hospital had always had a good relationship with City First Hospital.

He also wanted to use this opportunity to get familiar with Director Huo and Dr. Wu, hoping to apply for advanced training at their research center later on.

Watching Wang Lianjun act so subservient and deferential toward this unremarkable director from City First Hospital—and even toward a doctor younger than himself—left a bad taste in Wang Hongqing’s mouth.

’Wan Jun’s assessment was spot on,’ Wang Hongqing thought. ’My nephew has become useless from his time at Bei City First People’s Hospital, completely lacking ambition and drive.’

As a businessman, Wang Hongqing only cared about benefits. He would greet anyone useful to him with a smile, but he didn’t take a chief physician from City First Hospital seriously, as they held no value for him.

”Lian Jun, I just spoke with Wan Jun. He’s given his reply as well.”
