Chapter 142: Chapter 136: The Visuals Team, Off to Haijin Port

”Transfer Ms. Song Ying to Fan City First Hospital?”

Hearing Shen Guofeng’s suggestion, Dean Xu immediately rejected it.

”Professor Shen, that’s impossible. We are the Jinggang University Affiliated First Hospital. The benchmark for the entire industry in Jin Province.”

”The purpose of organizing this consultation today is to resolve this issue within our own hospital.”

”If we transfer Ms. Song Ying to Fan City, forget me—even Dean Song would never agree. This is about our hospital’s reputation.”

”If word got out, it would be a devastating blow to our hospital’s name and reputation.”

”The paternal aunt of the dean of Jinggang University Affiliated First Hospital... needing a liver tumor resection, has to be transferred to a lower-level hospital? No, absolutely not.”

Dean Xu was a vice-dean, after all. Besides the patient’s recovery, he also had to consider the bigger picture.

If it weren’t for the hospital’s reputation at stake, he could have directly transferred Ms. Song Ying to a hospital in Xianglin City or Qinghe City with a stronger hepatobiliary surgery department.

Keeping her at their hospital was a calculated decision.

”Besides, Guofeng, you said it yourself—your research center is still in its infancy. This so-called ’perfect triple-assisted laparoscopic technique’ hasn’t been officially promoted or matured yet. The success rate of the surgery can’t be guaranteed.”

”No surgery is ever one hundred percent guaranteed. If we really transferred her to City First Hospital and a surgical accident occurred, it would be even worse.”

”Neither you nor I could face Dean Song, nor could we face all our colleagues at Jinggang University Affiliated First Hospital.”

After Dean Xu rejected this plan,

Shen Xiaofei, Guo Chaocheng, and Sha Zhou thought about it and deeply agreed.

”If Professor Shen isn’t very confident about performing this surgery in one of our operating rooms, then we can only try a different approach.”

”First, the primary principle is that this surgery must be completed in our own operating room here at the hospital. Second, the lead surgeon and medical team must primarily consist of our hospital’s own physician team.”

”Only in this way can we protect our hospital’s reputation. This is also what Dean Song and Ms. Song Ying want.”

Dean Xu was being very direct.

”Guofeng, how about this: as long as the surgery can be performed in our own operating room, I can contact expert teams from home and abroad. We can invite them here for a joint consultation and treatment. Afterward, you can still be the lead surgeon.”

”Dean Xu’s idea is feasible. We invite outside experts to carry out the treatment in our own operating room. We can make it clear to the consulting experts beforehand that our hospital’s team will take the lead, and they will provide support.”

”Right, I also think this is the best plan.”

Although Sha Zhou was interested in the team from Fan City First Hospital, he still had more faith in the long-established professors and experts.

”If we decide to invite outside experts, then it’s actually quite simple. The Fan City First Hospital Research Center is about to host an expert consensus meeting on Daytime Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy. Many of the country’s top hepatobiliary surgery experts will be attending soon.”

Shen Xiaofei, who was one of the experts invited to this consensus meeting, immediately brought up this golden opportunity.

”That’s wonderful.”

Dean Xu was pleasantly surprised. ”This saves us the time of contacting experts. Otherwise, we’d have to screen a list of names and then coordinate schedules.”

”Based on the current list of attending experts, I suggest we contact Professor Liang Ang from Lin Province Pinfan Hospital and Dean Liu Rong from Qinghe City Jin Country General Hospital. The two professors worked together when they were younger and studied under the same master, so they work together seamlessly. They are also both truly top figures in the industry.”

”If we can invite them here to formulate a surgical plan together and then assist Professor Shen in a joint operation, it would be like giving a tiger wings.”

”Indeed, Professor Liang Ang plus Dean Liu Rong, combined with Professor Shen, would be considered a top-tier surgical team in the country.”

After hearing everyone’s opinions, Shen Guofeng could only give up on the idea of performing the surgery at Fan City First Hospital.

However, he thought of a compromise: have Wu Ting and his team bring their equipment to the operating room at Jinggang University Affiliated First Hospital.

Having truly collaborated with Wu Ting’s team once before, Shen Guofeng knew very well that, purely in terms of assistance for a liver tumor resection, he felt Wu Ting’s team would be a greater asset to him than Professor Liang Ang and Dean Liu Rong combined.

Shen Guofeng thought for a moment.

”Dean Xu, everyone, how about this? Let’s pursue two options at once. After all, Ms. Song Ying’s treatment is extremely important. Let’s try both plans.”

”I’ll contact Wu Ting’s team at Fan City First Hospital now and see if they can bring their equipment over to recreate the environment for the ’perfect triple-assisted laparoscopic surgery’ in our operating room.”

”Then, after Professor Liang Ang and Professor Liu Rong arrive, we can compare the two options.”

”This is no disrespect to the two top professors, but personally, I believe collaborating with Wu Ting’s team would be more beneficial for Ms. Song Ying’s surgery.”

”Dean Xu, fellow directors, besides the surgical success rate, I feel that if we use Wu Ting’s team... the results from this research center are, in fact, one of the joint achievements of our Jinggang University Affiliated First Hospital. And Dr. Yan Xi, one of the members, is my student.”

”If this surgery proceeds smoothly, it would also be a milestone operation for our hospital.”

”In fact, this upcoming expert consensus on Daytime Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy that Professor Liang Ang and Professor Liu Rong were invited to is a result of the work done by our joint research center—by Wu Ting’s team.”

”Therefore, my collaboration with Wu Ting’s team would kill several birds with one stone!”

Hearing Shen Guofeng’s analysis, Dean Xu was somewhat moved.

”Alright, then we’ll split up and make contact. I will explain the situation clearly to Professor Liang Ang and Dean Liu Rong.”

”As for Wu Ting’s team and their achievements, the proof will be in the pudding. It’ll all come down to their performance.”

After the discussion concluded, Shen Guofeng and Dean Xu went their separate ways to make contact.

Shen Guofeng contacted Wu Ting again.

Shen Guofeng clearly explained the significance of this surgery and the stakes involved.

”Wu Ting, this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. What’s more, Professor Liang Ang from Lin Province Pinfan Hospital and Dean Liu Rong from Qinghe City Jin Country General Hospital will be involved. I hope our team can win the right to perform this surgery from them.”

”Also, as far as I know, besides this expert consensus meeting, both professors are also members of the expert pool for the National Natural Science Foundation’s conference review panel. There’s a high probability they will be selected to participate in the final review session.”

”This is also a great chance for your team to make an impression on them. If you can earn the recognition of these two professors, it will undoubtedly be a huge boost for your future.”

After Shen Guofeng stated his position,

Wu Ting thought for a moment and agreed to the plan.

”Professor Shen, no problem. I can have the hospital send over the relevant equipment. We just need to reinstall and calibrate it.”

”The most crucial components of our joint-assistance technology are the core algorithm I wrote and the three PhDs who operate it.”

”Once the equipment is delivered, installed, and calibrated, I’ll connect the core algorithm. Then, with the three PhDs, we’ll be ready to assist you with the liver tumor resection.”

”Professor Shen, compared to our last collaboration, after Dr. Jin Yan from Xianglin City Xuanshang University Affiliated Hospital joined a few days ago, I’ve re-optimized the code and integrated ultrasound-assisted technology into our main platform.”

”At the same time, Yan Xi, Ling Ling, and I have once again simplified and improved the system and its hardware-software integration. This time, we can perfectly combine fluorescence imaging, real-time 3D imaging, and ultrasound imaging onto a single screen, creating a perfect fusion with the actual surgical field.”

”On the same screen, we’ve enabled switching between several modes. This allows the lead surgeon to intuitively, clearly, and multi-dimensionally observe the tumor’s position within the liver. Through the deep learning capabilities of the large model, it can eliminate interference from cirrhotic nodules to the greatest extent...”

Hearing Wu Ting’s explanation, Shen Guofeng’s confidence soared.

”That’s fantastic. Wu Ting, I’ll be waiting for your team at Jinggang University Affiliated First Hospital!”

「Meanwhile.」

Dean Xu also got in touch with Professor Liang Ang and Dean Liu Rong. Since the two were already heading to Fan City via Xiaoshan International Airport in Xiao City, stopping by Jinggang University Affiliated First Hospital first was very convenient.

When they heard it was a tumor resection for severe cirrhosis combined with liver cancer, and that the patient was the aunt of Dean Song from Haijin Port Hospital, both of them expressed great enthusiasm and a willingness to join the surgical consultation and even assist with the operation.

The professional world, after all, is built on relationships and favors.

The influence of Dean Song and the hospital at Haijin Port was certainly worth a favor from the two professors.

Professor Liang Ang, in particular, was eager to get started after receiving the invitation.

Professor Liang Ang gave instructions to the doctors on his team, splitting them into two groups. His most trusted associates would follow him to Xiao City to participate in the surgical consultation for Dean Song’s aunt.

As for Wang Wanguang, he was just an extra, and a Fan City native at that, so he was told to take the other group and head to Fan City in advance to let his colleagues get familiar with the place. It would also be convenient for Wang Wanguang to go to his grandfather’s place first and make some preliminary arrangements.

”Wanguang, it looks like for your grandfather’s surgery, besides Dean Liu, we’ll have a chance to invite the team from the hospital at Haijin Port to participate as well.”

”Before your grandfather’s surgery, I’ll meet up with Dean Liu at Jinggang University Affiliated First Hospital. We’ll be performing a joint operation there with Professor Shen Guofeng’s team.”

”The patient’s condition is very similar to your grandfather’s—cirrhosis combined with liver cancer. Although I’m very experienced with this type of liver tumor, being able to exchange ideas with Dean Liu, Professor Shen, and the others, and learn from their strengths, might give me new inspiration. Having such a high-profile surgery beforehand will serve as a reference and be a help for your grandfather’s operation.”

”You head to Bei City first. Tell your family to relax and be patient, and to wait for my good news.”

Professor Liang Ang also placed great importance on this joint consultation and surgery at the Haijin Port hospital.

It just seemed that, according to Dean Xu, the hospital had another team as a backup option besides them.

It was Dean Song’s aunt, after all. It was normal to be a little cautious.

Who would be in charge of the treatment would all depend on their respective abilities!

「City First Hospital, Laparoscopic Diagnosis and Treatment Technology Research Center.」

A total of three vehicles were assembled.

Cheng Feng drove one vehicle, and Yasui drove another. The two of them were responsible for transporting the relevant equipment and instruments. Later, they would also be responsible for recording video and photos of the surgery.

Director Huo personally drove one vehicle, carrying the ”Face-Value Supergroup”: Wu Ting and the three female PhDs—Jin Yan, Ling Ling, and Yan Xi!

The Face-Value Supergroup, their driver Old Huo, and their two ’bodyguard’ underlings, Yasui and Cheng Feng, set off for Haijin Port!
