Chapter 124: Chapter 122: Wu Ting and Dr. Yan’s Perfect Solution

Director Cai was just a bootlicker; he didn’t have any solutions. He could only pin his hopes on Director Huo.

”Director Huo, I’m truly powerless here. We’ll have to rely on your department. Moving forward, as long as you have a method and need our department’s help, I will cooperate fully.”

After Cai Qi finished speaking, he knew he had embarrassed himself. He made an excuse about needing to prepare for a surgery, greeted the two deans, and left early.

Dean Liu didn’t linger either:

”Something has come up in the cardiology department that I need to handle. Dean Tang, Director Huo, you two can discuss it further.”

With a feigned look of gravity, Dean Liu left the conference room.

Only Tang Long and Huo Yun remained in the conference room.

”Huo Yun, you heard what Dean Liu just said. We’ve come this far; we must overcome this difficulty no matter what. If it really comes to it, I can buy you a little more time, but you absolutely must produce the best possible solution after the unveiling ceremony.”

”After the unveiling, during this transitional period, if there’s truly no other way, then you’ll have to leverage your personal connections. Invite some experts to collaborate on surgeries and get us through this difficult time.”

After speaking, Tang Long left the conference room without giving Huo Yun a chance to refuse.

Huo Yun was left alone. After sitting in silence for a while,

he slowly left the conference room.

Soon, the official hospital announcement regarding the outcome of the Dong Feiyue incident was released.

Effective from the date of the announcement, until a solution and an improved Surgical Technique were developed, physicians below the rank of senior attending in the Emergency Surgery and Hepatobiliary Surgery departments were prohibited from acting as the chief surgeon for Daytime Laparoscopic Cholecystectomies.

Everyone in the Emergency Surgery department was hit hard.

According to this new regulation, only Jiang Ming, Song Qi, and Qin Donglai in the Emergency Surgery department were qualified to perform the Daytime Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy.

However, the three of them also had to handle other emergency surgeries, making it impossible for them to advance this project alone.

Originally, Jiang Ming, Qin Donglai, and the others had planned to start training Luo Ming, Yasui, and other junior doctors to perform this surgery.

Just like that, their plan was thrown into disarray.

Of course, the most critical issue was that the number of chief surgeons transferred from the Hepatobiliary Surgery department had also been slashed by seventy percent. With the unveiling ceremony and the research center’s promotional campaign just around the corner, what were they supposed to do?

Yasui, Luo Ming, and the others were demoralized. They had been preparing to step into the role of chief surgeon, only to be sidelined by a single policy directive.

Song Qi, Qin Donglai, and Jiang Ming were also indignant.

”How are we supposed to advance the project if junior doctors can’t be the chief surgeons?”

”Sure, junior doctors have less experience, but that’s a case-by-case and patient-by-patient issue. How can they apply a one-size-fits-all policy?”

”There’s nothing to be done. Dong Feiyue’s case is a prime example. Junior doctors are indeed more likely to cause iatrogenic bile duct injuries. Even though our department started early, and An Jin, Luo Ming, and the others have assisted in about a hundred cases, you can’t guarantee the same for the Hepatobiliary Surgery department or any new hires. Not unless we can improve the Surgical Technique and reduce the difficulty of the procedure.”

”But that’s easier said than done!”

”Based on our previous schedule, the unveiling ceremony is not far off. The displays for the laparoscopic diagnosis and treatment center in the administration building and our emergency department’s lobby—the promotional boards, the staff photos—are all nearly complete.”

”Even the hallway renovations are almost finished.”

”This is so stressful.”

Jiang Ming and Qin Donglai were like ants on a hot pan.

”We could probably manage temporarily by asking some old friends to come help, but that only treats the symptoms, not the root cause. A solution like that isn’t sustainable. Whether it’s financially, or in terms of perception and our public image, we can’t rely on outside help to solve this.”

”For now, our only hope is to see if Wu Ting has any ideas.”

”Dr. Wu has been helping Dr. Yan get accustomed to the department these past couple of days. He’s already done several surgeries in a row.”

”I think he went with Dr. Yan to the lab at Jinggang University Affiliated First Hospital today to discuss her dissertation topic with her.”

”Right now, we can only proceed with two plans at once. The first is a temporary solution: the few of us will contact and invite some senior physicians in the city who can perform laparoscopic cholecystectomies to solve the immediate crisis.”

”The second plan still relies on Wu Ting and Director Huo to see if they can come up with an improved Surgical Technique as soon as possible.”

”Sigh, this is too difficult. ’Fortune favors the bold,’ I guess. A national-level research center for laparoscopic diagnosis and treatment technology was never going to be easy to establish.”

”This is just the first of the eighty-one trials.”

...

...

「Jinggang University Affiliated First Hospital.」

In the laboratory.

Wu Ting and Yan Xi were in the middle of a heated discussion about indocyanine green real-time fluorescence navigation technology.

”Wu Ting, this is our lab’s newest piece of equipment: the fluorescent endoscopic navigation system.”

”It’s an upgrade to conventional laparoscopes. It can capture fluorescent signals in real-time and create an image using a fluorescence imaging system.”

”At the same time, this 4K ultra-HD fluorescence endoscopy system uses a 4K ultra-HD chip, with an output resolution of up to 8 million pixels. The image has much richer detail, and the display is clearer, cleaner, and more refined.”

On her home turf, Yan Xi was confident and poised as she introduced the equipment to Wu Ting—a stark contrast to that day in the operating room when she had been completely under Wu Ting’s command!

”Dr. Wu, when it comes to clinical skills, I’m no match for you. But when it comes to operating the latest equipment, I can definitely be your teacher!”

”Heh... Look, our lab’s newest ultra-HD camera system also has functions like vascular enhancement, smoke removal, dark area correction, and exposure correction...”

As Yan Xi explained, a mature plan began to form in Wu Ting’s mind.

”Dr. Yan, is it possible to transport this equipment to an operating room at our City First Hospital?”

”I’ve thought of an excellent application for your indocyanine green real-time fluorescence navigation technology. I want to combine it with the Daytime Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy our department is performing.”

”Didn’t I have you participate in several cholecystectomies with me? We can absolutely integrate the indocyanine green real-time fluorescence navigation technology.”

”We can use the indocyanine green real-time fluorescence navigation technology to visualize the extrahepatic biliary tract. My overall surgical concept is to inject indocyanine green intravenously into the back of the hand... Its water-soluble properties allow it to be excited by external light with a wavelength of 750–810 nm, causing it to emit near-infrared light at a wavelength of around 840 nm... Then, using the lab’s new fluorescent endoscopic navigation system, we can precisely display the structures of the liver and the extrahepatic biliary tract...”

”By leveraging the properties of indocyanine green and real-time fluorescence imaging, we can clearly display the gap between the gallbladder wall and the liver. Based on the principles of staining and the observed phenomena, couldn’t we then obtain a blue-yellow-blue gap...?”

Wu Ting picked up a marker, began to draw an anatomical diagram of the gallbladder area on the lab’s small whiteboard, and started his demonstration using two different colored pens.

Under the entry for Real-time Fluorescent Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy (purple), Wu Ting began to guide Dr. Yan Xi, showing her how to combine this technology with laparoscopic cholecystectomy.

Dr. Yan Xi’s strength was in theory, but she lacked practical clinical and surgical experience, so she couldn’t make the connection or figure out how to apply the technology so ingeniously.

But Wu Ting knew the extrahepatic biliary tract, gallbladder, cystic duct, common hepatic duct, and Calot’s triangle like the back of his hand. Combining this with the staining principles of indocyanine green and the imaging properties of the camera, he drew, spoke, and analyzed, effectively creating a brand-new fluorescence-assisted laparoscopic technique on the spot.

It wasn’t until she saw Wu Ting’s demonstration drawing that her heart started to pound.

”Dr. Yan, look. This way, we only need to dissect along the yellow plane intraoperatively. Even a junior doctor, with a certain amount of training, would be able to easily avoid gallbladder rupture and liver damage... Isn’t it incredibly simple!”

A flash of insight struck Yan Xi, and she was suddenly taken aback.

’So Dr. Wu’s special surgical training for me wasn’t to build rapport between us through surgery. It was purely so that I could understand laparoscopic cholecystectomy.’

’So I could experience the Surgical Technique firsthand, which would allow me to understand his explanation of the technique now!’

As the realization dawned on her, Yan Xi looked at the young doctor before her with a newfound sense of awe.

”And your indocyanine green real-time fluorescence navigation technology can be perfectly integrated with the Qi Mechanism Ascending-Descending Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy that I previously created.”

”When combined, they can achieve a completely clean, bloodless surgery. Indocyanine green real-time fluorescence laparoscopy is the guarantee and the final puzzle piece for the perfect cholecystectomy in the era of minimally invasive surgery!”

”Dr. Yan, with the two of us working together, a brand-new, low-threshold, perfect Daytime Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy has been born!”

”The principle and framework are now established. All that’s left is for us to go back to the research center and begin formal trials! Dr. Yan, I’m entrusting this project to you!”

It was only after Wu Ting had finished explaining the entire principle, the surgical plan and procedure, and all the core concepts within it,

that Yan Xi slowly began to process everything.

After all, she had been working on this doctoral thesis for over a year without a breakthrough.

She never imagined that after just a day or two with Wu Ting, the problem would be solved at an incredible speed.

And he had guided her with such overwhelming insight it was as if he were from a higher dimension. To ensure she could understand, he had even given her special surgical training a day in advance.

Yan Xi was prostrate with admiration:

”Dr. Wu, you’re just incredible.”

”It’s true. Only by grinding it out on the operating table and gaining clinical experience can one truly integrate high-level technology.”

”Dr. Wu, then let’s go back to the research center together and complete this project.”

”I’ll talk to my professor in a bit and have this machine transported to the research center. From now on, I’ll stay in Fan City until our project is finished.”

”Dr. Wu, thank you!”

Wasting no more time, Yan Xi immediately called Shen Guofeng to report the situation. Afterward, she called over some graduate student assistants to help disassemble, pack, and transport the equipment to City First Hospital to begin formal trials of the new Surgical Technique!
