I Became The Chief Of A Primitive Village

Chapter 491, Great Crisis!

After Su Bai returned to the Yong’an Building, he taught the girls how to make tomato sauce and then continued with his own affairs.

Recently, he had been helping to resolve the shipbuilding issues, and Kuang was encountering quite a few problems over there.

Not only that, but there were other problems to solve, like issues with the stonemasons and carpenters.

This was because he had also asked them to create other things, such as carpenters assisting Kuang in building ships.

As for the stonemasons, he had them begin researching the problem of constructing city walls, because once the snow season ends, they would need to start building the walls.

Regarding the structure of the city walls, as well as their height and so forth, these were all matters to be discussed.

However, it was precisely because of these discussions that he wore a worried expression, not for any other reason than that when the eternal night came, those Ferocious Beasts would charge towards the Tribe like madmen. Therefore, this period during the eternal night was extremely critical; if they could not resist those charging Ferocious Beasts, the Tribe itself would likely be in danger.

And the eternal night followed directly after the snow season, so it was practically impossible to complete the city walls before the eternal night arrived.

When the snow season came, everywhere would be covered in pure white snow, making the construction of city walls extremely difficult.

“Shaman, what are you worrying about?” Yu Ying noticed his concerned expression as he stood by the window.

“I’m considering the problem of the eternal night,” Su Bai said gravely.

Since building city walls by then was impossible, he needed to start considering how to deal with those frenzied Ferocious Beasts.

When Shan Qiu told him that those Ferocious Beasts would become one or two times fiercer than usual once the eternal night came, and the power they unleashed would be astonishing, often just a few Ferocious Beasts could destroy an entire Tribe.

So when the snow season arrived, it was also when many Tribes existence ended.

One might think there were many Primitive Tribes in the Primitive Era, but often these Tribes had very short lifespans.

These Tribes frequently survived less than a decade; some perished during the rainy season, others during the snow season, and even if those Tribes could endure the snow season, they would not survive this stage of the eternal night.

Because those Ferocious Beasts all charged towards the Tribes, those Small Tribes had no means of resistance, as there were very few Totem Warriors within the Tribe, completely insufficient for defence.

“Shaman, will our wooden walls be able to hold back those Ferocious Beasts?” Yu Ying asked worriedly.

In fact, Yu Ying had also been considering this problem recently; as the snow season drew nearer, this anxiety grew deeper.

But she had never mentioned it, not wanting to put too much pressure on the Shaman, so she kept it to herself.

“That’s why I need to consider exactly how to resolve this matter. Without city walls, we’ll just have to confront them,” Su Bai said seriously.

His expression was especially solemn; since there was no way to establish a city wall immediately, they could only fight against them.

“Shaman, I can help,” Yan Hua immediately became serious.

Yan Hua’s hands were tightly clenched, her expression looking particularly fierce, as if she might start fighting someone at any moment.

“Shaman, my aim with the longbow is exceptional too; I can also shoot those Ferocious Beasts down!” Sha Lan immediately said. Her pair of cat ears immediately stood up, and her previously serene face also gained a hint of seriousness.

“Shaman, although I can’t help much, I will certainly manage everything within the Yong’an Building well,” Yu Ying said immediately.

Yu Ying knew she was not as strong as the others, so she could only make up for it in her own way.

“Shaman, is there anything I can help with? Please say so; as long as I can help, I will certainly use all my strength,” Co Co was also very earnest, and was the same; although she was not a Warrior, if there was anything she could help with, she would certainly not shrink back.

“You two just stay obediently in the Yong’an Building. As for Ah’Hua and the others, you’ll definitely have things you can do when the time comes,” Su Bai smiled gently.

He had not expected the girls to suddenly become so united, and their words at this critical moment were quite heartwarming.

“Shaman, we can wait on top of the wooden walls for those Ferocious Beasts to arrive,” Yan Hua said seriously.

“Yes, previously we fought those Ferocious Beasts with weapons, but now we have longbows and can snipe them from a distance,” Sha Lan strongly agreed with this idea.

“I know, but not all Ferocious Beasts are so easy to shoot,” Su Bai had of course already considered this point.

Because he had learned from Shan Qiu that there were many types of Ferocious Beasts, not just the common ones, but also some uncommon ones.

Additionally, some had extremely hard shells, making it impossible for ordinary longbows to injure them.

“I know this point; last year there was a Ferocious Beast that was very troublesome. Father spent a very long time before killing it,” Yan Hua recalled that scene from last year.

“Shaman, since longbows can’t harm them, would the recurve bows work?” Sha Lan thought of the recurve bows that each Totem Warrior carried.

“Not necessarily; there are probably some Ferocious Beasts that can’t be shot with recurve bows either,” Su Bai shook his head.

He felt that things were not as simple as imagined; relying solely on the two weapons they currently had would certainly make it difficult to deal with those Ferocious Beasts.

“Shaman, isn’t our situation very dangerous then? The Tribe now has so many more people; if those Ferocious Beasts break through the wooden walls, won’t they have a feast?” Yan Hua dared not imagine this bloody scene.

“We can only craft more powerful weapons before the eternal night arrives,” Su Bai said seriously.

“More powerful weapons?” Yan Hua widened her eyes; hearing this made her especially spirited.

Yan Hua thought the weapons they currently possessed were already very powerful, but was surprised to hear they needed to craft even more powerful ones.

“Shaman, is it also a long-range weapon? What kind of bow?” Sha Lan’s first thought was of weapons related to bows and arrows.

“Since it’s a bow, and moreover a very powerful weapon, it must be very large, right?” Co Co guessed.

“No, it is a long-range weapon, that’s correct, but it’s not a bow,” Su Bai shook his head.

“Shaman, what is this weapon called? Will Uncle Gu Mu and Uncle Shan Qiu make it?” Yan Hua asked excitedly.

“It’s called a firearm.” Su Bai said seriously, a hint of solemnity appearing at the corner of his eye.

He had originally not wanted to introduce firearms so quickly in this era, as cold weapons were already completely sufficient. But what surprised him was that during the eternal night, those Ferocious Beasts would become agitated to the point of madness, to the point of actively attacking Humans.

Since ordinary weapons might not be able to kill them, the only thing he could think of was firearms.
