I Became The Chief Of A Primitive Village

Chapter 462, Going There in Person

A gentle breeze blew through the forest, making the falling leaves rustle. The leaves were slowly beginning to turn yellow.

Looking around, one could see yellow-green patches everywhere, and the temperature was gradually dropping.

It was cooler in the mornings and evenings, and people going out to work in the morning would wear an extra Animal Hide.

Generally, men would be bare-chested, as this saves on Animal Hide, and it was not too hot and was also more convenient for work.

Su Bai stood by the full-length window looking towards the direction of the great river. Recently, the Tribe has undergone significant changes.

Many houses had sprung up, though many were just shells without stones laid on them, but it would not take much time to complete them.

Combined with the yellowing leaves in the forest, it truly felt as though the snow season was drawing closer than ever.

“Shaman, please look at this, is it seawater?” Sha Lan placed a jar on the table.

Sha Lan had just descended from the hot air balloon and hurried to the cement house, eager to know whether this was seawater or not.

Su Bai’s thick black eyebrows raised slightly as he asked. “Did everything go smoothly? Did you encounter any problems?”

After all, this round trip had taken three days, even travelling by hot air balloon, so he was somewhat concerned.

“Nothing happened, everything went smoothly. It just took a bit longer than expected because it is quite far away.” Sha Lan shook her head and said.

“That’s good.” Su Bai nodded lightly, opened the lid of the jar and began examining the water inside.

First, he leaned in to smell it, finding the scent familiar, then dipped his finger to taste a bit, confirming it was indeed seawater.

“Shaman, is it seawater?” Sha Lan asked expectantly.

“Yes, this is seawater. Seems like you’ve really found the ocean.” Su Bai nodded with satisfaction.

As long as they had found the ocean, everything else would be much easier. The Tribe was also currently running low on salt.

“Shaman, you mentioned before that seawater can be used to make salt. How?” Sha Lan asked. Her ears twitched continuously, her face filled with anticipation, finding it incredible.

She knew the Shaman was knowledgeable, but not to this extent. He not only knew how to manufacture linen and ceramics but also knew about papermaking and could teach them how to read and write. Now, he even knew how to make salt. He was simply too amazing.

“We just need to dry seawater to get salt, the process is called salt drying, but since the ocean is quite far from us, doing this would be rather difficult.” Su Bai explained with concern.

He thought that if they had a boat, it would be much more convenient to transport seawater back for drying, giving him better control over the process.

Without a boat and relying solely on hot air balloons, this already limited the manpower he could employ. Only people from the Tribe could go, and if they did not understand the process, it would be a waste of time.

Additionally, they did not know which areas nearby were suitable for salt drying, and someone needed to monitor the drying process.

This would require setting up teepees there and guarding against wild beasts and Ferocious Beasts along the coast, which was too troublesome.

“So, we currently have no way to get salt from that place?” Sha Lan suddenly felt a bit disappointed.

“There are still more than ten days before the snow season arrives. Making salt is rather complicated and will require me to go there in person.” Su Bai frowned.

The salt drying process was not very simple, and merely giving verbal instructions to those people might not achieve good results.

So, after much deliberation, he decided to go in person, which would be safer.

“Shaman, you want to go there in person? That’s too dangerous!” Sha Lan worried.

“Is it more dangerous than the Hunting Ground? Don’t worry. Besides, for the sake of the Tribe, we need salt. I have to go.” Su Bai said.

Sha Lan let out a sigh and asked. “Shaman, how long does salt drying take? The snow season is coming, will we make it in time?”

“Although the snow season is approaching, the sun has been strong recently. We can dry some before the snow season arrives, though the quantity won’t be that great.” Su Bai analysed.

He planned not to dry too much salt this time, just enough to get through the snow season, and then start large-scale salt drying after the snow season passed.

“Okay then, I’ll make some arrangements. We’ll set off tomorrow, which will save some time,” Sha Lan analysed calmly.

“Yes, arrange as you see fit. We’ll depart early tomorrow morning, or this afternoon departure is also possible.” Su Bai still wanted to save more time.

“I understand. If we have time, we’ll leave in the evening,” Sha Lan nodded and continued, “Shaman, the Hunting Team’s second group has already departed.”

Sha Lan had just arrived at the Tribe from the hot air balloon and had also seen the Hunting Team return.

They had met in the air, and the two hot air balloons had nearly collided. If they had not controlled them well in time, they probably would have fallen.

Currently, hot air balloons were very precious in the Tribe, with only three in total.

Manufacturing hot air balloons took a relatively long time because every aspect required careful attention.

“Good, let the first group rest for now, and they can replace the second group in a few days.” Su Bai said.

“Alright, they’ve brought back plenty of game this time, enough to last through the snow season.” Sha Lan smiled.

With the hot air balloons, the problem of transporting food had been resolved, so the time saved was used for hunting, naturally increasing the quantity of food they could bring back.

“Continue to hunt for more. Having more food is always good. The Tribe’s population will continue to grow, so we should store as much as we can.” Su Bai said.

“Yes, with the hot air balloons, they’ll spend all their time hunting, so our Tribe will have more food than ever before!” Sha Lan said with a smile.

Truthfully, she was already looking forward to the arrival of the snow season, which would be different from previous years.

Although she was the daughter of a Mid-Stage Totem Warrior and would not receive too little food, during the snow season, it would normally still be less than what she usually got.

This time, because they had hunted an exceptional amount of food, they certainly would not go hungry during the snow season. Plus, the houses they now lived in were very nice and could withstand severe cold, so naturally, she looked forward to the snow season.

She wanted to see what the snow season would be like after the changes to the Tribe, thinking it surely would not be that bad.

“You should rest well first. These past few days must have been exhausting for you.” Su Bai said gently.

“I’m fine, not tired at all. I’ll go find Ah’Hua later; she probably misses me too.” Sha Lan shook her head.

“Sure, she’s at the training ground. Go find her first.” Su Bai nodded.

“I’ll first arrange the trip to the ocean, and then I’ll go find Ah’Hua.” Sha Lan said seriously.

Su Bai blinked his black eyes and nodded, “Okay, make sure you don’t overexert yourself.”

He knew Sha Lan was always hardworking and responsible, so he felt reassured and entrusted matters to her.

“I won’t. I’ll go make arrangements now,” Sha Lan smiled.

“Go ahead,” Su Bai nodded.
