I Became The Chief Of A Primitive Village

Chapter 486, Accommodation for People from Foreign Tribes

Su Bai watched as Yan Jiao left, blinking his black eyes as he fell into contemplation, feeling that something was missing in the Tribe now.

“Shaman, is something wrong? You seem preoccupied.” Yu Ying asked with concern.

Yu Ying had felt all evening that the Shaman was not quite himself, either lowering his head in thought or looking up at something.

“It’s nothing, I’m just thinking about the Tribe’s development. I feel like something is missing…” Su Bai softly said.

“The Tribe is developing steadily now, what could be missing?” Yu Ying asked innocently.

Yu Ying thought the Flame Dragon Tribe was already quite good now, having everything they needed, incomparably better than their old Tribe.

“Have you noticed that people from other Tribes don’t have anywhere to stay when they come to our Tribe?” Su Bai asked in return.

This was a question that had suddenly occurred to him. If the Chieftain had not come to report about the Giant Bear Tribe, he might have overlooked this issue indefinitely.

“That’s manageable because we specifically reserve some wooden houses for those people to stay in,” Yu Ying said, tilting her head.

When people from other Tribes came, they would specifically reserve a few wooden houses for them, and then have them leave the next day after staying.

Few Tribes would do this. The last time was during the rainy season when they took in four children from the Giant Bear Tribe who had nowhere to stay.

And that time was only because of the Shaman’s orders; otherwise, the people of the Tribe would not dare take the initiative to provide wooden houses for people from other Tribes.

“If we give them the wooden houses, don’t the original owners of those houses have to squeeze in with others?” Su Bai continued asking.

“Yes, because many of the wooden houses in the Tribe have been dismantled, and most people are building cement houses, so those wooden houses can only be used temporarily for them to stay in,” Yu Ying nodded.

“That isn’t good. The wooden houses were originally for our Tribe’s people to live in. We can’t make the original owners give up their places just because others have come.” Su Bai felt this was not appropriate. They were the masters of this Tribe; there was no reason to give up wooden houses to accommodate others. His people should be the priority, not others.

“Shaman, what should we do then? Should we send those people away? That’s what other Tribes do,” Yu Ying suggested.

“No, that would make our Tribe seem too heartless, and it would also discourage people from other Tribes who want to come to our Tribe.” Su Bai shook his head.

He wanted to change this rule to make everyone feel that the Flame Dragon Tribe was a good Tribe, one willing to accept everyone.

“Shaman, but did not you just say that our Tribe’s people would have nowhere to stay?” Yu Ying was a bit confused.

“That’s true, but we can build a dedicated place for them to stay,” Su Bai smiled.

Yu Ying immediately widened her pink eyes, doubting if she had heard correctly, and asked in shock: “Shaman, are you serious? Are you really going to build a house for them?”

Yu Ying found this incredibly hard to believe. Why would they suddenly build a house for others? And this house would be built for people from other Tribes to live in. This was simply too absurd.

Did he not just say a moment ago that the Tribe’s wooden houses should be for the Tribe’s people? They could not be for people from other Tribes, but now he wanted to build houses for the outsiders?

“Of course, and this house needs to be tall,” Su Bai wanted to laugh seeing her shocked expression.

“Shaman, isn’t this too generous to people from other Tribes? The people in our Tribe might be dissatisfied.” Yu Ying worried.

Yu Ying thought about it and felt they should forget it. This was the Shaman’s decision, and she should not interfere with it, but she still needed to point out the drawbacks.

“Silly girl, of course we’re not letting them stay in this house for nothing. They’ll definitely need to give us something in exchange.” Su Bai smiled.

He decided to just explain it directly rather than continue teasing Yu Ying, otherwise she would certainly be confused.

“So that’s it. I knew the Shaman wouldn’t…” Yu Ying laughed awkwardly.

“I certainly wouldn’t what?” Su Bai deliberately smiled and continued, “By then, more and more people will come to our Tribe, and this building will be the best place for us to gather intelligence.”

Yu Ying did not quite understand and asked, wagging her pink fox tail. “Shaman, how will we collect things from them for this house?”

“It depends. The house can be divided into several levels, charging different things for different levels,” Su Bai said.

This era, they did not have currency yet. The only thing he could think of was bartering—providing accommodation to people from other Tribes and having them give something in exchange.

“I think this is a good idea. This way, we can both maintain a good reputation and collect some things,” Yu Ying agreed.

Yu Ying was truly amazed by the Shaman’s wisdom. Why had she not thought of this before? This way, the wooden houses in the Tribe would not need to be given to people from other Tribes.

“We can also build a kitchen in this house and provide meals as well. Of course, they would also need to exchange things for this service too.” Su Bai smiled gently.

He planned to build it like a restaurant, with both places to eat and stay.

A restaurant could attract even more people. Many people from different Tribes could eat there and then go straight to sleep, and they could even discuss matters while eating.

“Shaman, wouldn’t that be too troublesome?” Yu Ying asked.

“It won’t be troublesome. We’ll take it slow.” Su Bai said softly.

He lowered his head and picked up a drawing paper, beginning to sketch the exterior of the restaurant. Since they were making a restaurant, the appearance would certainly need to be different.

However, the fundamentals remained the same—it would definitely be built with cement and stone.

“Shaman, where will this restaurant be built?” Yu Ying was more concerned about this question.

Yu Ying also knew that the Flame Dragon Tribe was currently being built according to a plan, with different areas serving different purposes.

Now, standing on the top floor of a cement house and looking down, one could see that the Tribe was in the process of building houses in an orderly manner.

It was no longer like before, with wooden houses and Teepees scattered in messy positions. In the past, if looking down from above, it was absolute chaos, requiring twists and turns just to walk through the Tribe.

“Let’s build it at a distance quite far from where we are. This way, they will be able to speak freely.” Su Bai said.

He did not want the restaurant to be too close to him, both because the mix of people would be too chaotic and it could be dangerous.

“I agree,” Yu Ying nodded firmly.
