I Became The Chief Of A Primitive Village

Chapter 485, Being Taken Advantage Of?

*Step step step…* Yan Jiao took the Sweet Grain and walked straight towards the cement house, wanting to immediately bring this item to the Shaman.

After going up to the second floor, he handed over the package and said, “Shaman, these are Sweet Grain Seeds from the Giant Bear Tribe.”

Su Bai opened the package and was surprised, saying, “Isn’t this just corn?”

The large yellow portion with a tiny bit of white at the end looked exactly like the corn from Earth.

“Corn? Shaman, what is corn? They said this is Sweet Grain.” Yan Jiao asked in confusion.

“Corn is what we ate before, it tastes very sweet and is quite nice.” Su Bai explained.

He had not expected to see corn here, and its appearance was quite similar to that on Earth, though the ones here were larger.

“Is it delicious? If so, then we’ve got a good deal. We exchanged one ceramic bowl for a seed and two bags of dried meat.” Yan Jiao’s serious expression showed a rare smile.

He had merely made a casual offer, but had not expected the other party to agree so readily. This led to some regret now, feeling that he should have asked for more.

“What was their attitude when they agreed? Were they hesitant or quite willing?” Su Bai asked.

“Hmm… I wouldn’t say they were very hesitant. They only made one request, asking if they could exchange for more, but after I refused, they didn’t say anything else.” Yan Jiao said.

Su Bai nodded thoughtfully, carefully examining the corn seeds, and asked, “Do you know about the Giant Bear Tribe?”

“I know a bit. Shaman, is something wrong?” Yan Jiao did not understand what was happening.

“What’s their environment like? Do they get more sun or less sun? No, I should ask this way: what’s their terrain like?” Su Bai asked.

“Their Tribe is on a small hill, a bit higher up, but there are very tall trees all around. Although it’s a hill, those trees completely block the sky above their Tribe.”

Yan Jiao thought carefully and continued, “So they avoid direct sunlight, which is much better than our situation.”

“I see, no wonder,” Su Bai smiled and shook his head.

“Shaman, what’s wrong? Is there an issue with the Giant Bear Tribe? Or is there a problem with our exchange?” Yan Jiao had no idea what was happening from start to finish.

“Do you know why they agreed so readily?” Su Bai looked up and asked with a smile.

Yan Jiao shook his head without hesitation and asked, “Shaman, I don’t know. What happened? They haven’t left yet. If we’ve been tricked, we can go after them.”

His tone now clearly showed some anger, very much disliking the thought of being played by the other party.

“This trade doesn’t really affect us, but they probably think it does.” Su Bai smiled slightly and continued, “These corn seeds are difficult to grow in their Tribe, so they assume it would be the same for us, that we would find it difficult to grow them.”

Yan Jiao nodded seriously and continued listening.

“But actually, that’s not the case. These corn seeds are quite dependent on their environment to grow, and these corn seeds would easily survive in our Tribe. So, that means their calculations were wrong from the start.” Su Bai smiled.

He really felt like both laughing and crying now, finding their foolish behaviour quite amusing.

“I understand. They must think that even if they give us their Tribe’s good items, we would not be able to grow them successfully, so they don’t lose out.” Yan Jiao said angrily.

Feeling as if he had been schemed against, he was about to go find them when he was called back.

“Don’t be angry. If that’s what they think, all the better. Besides, we won’t need these seeds in the future.” Su Bai said with a light smile.

He also disliked the feeling of being schemed against, but the other party’s scheme had fallen through. The Flame Dragon Tribe, due to the lack of foliage blocking the Sun, they enjoyed abundant sunlight.

Corn happens to be a plant that prefers warmth, with the best germination temperature being between 28-35 degrees, conditions that the Flame Dragon Tribe could fully meet.

Then, most importantly, Su Bai had his Growth Acceleration Skill. Even if the production environment here was not ideal, he could just use this skill, and the corn would grow robustly all the same.

The Giant Bear Tribe, on the other hand, had many trees blocking the Sun, so they did not have sufficient sunlight. As a result, the corn could not get enough Sun exposure, naturally reducing the chances of germination. Therefore, corn yield in the Giant Bear Tribe was very low, and the corn that did manage to grow was very small in size.

“Shaman, won’t we trade with them anymore?” Yan Jiao asked.

“No, we will continue to trade with them but we’ll raise the stakes. We also won’t need their seeds. We’ll have our own seeds in the future.” Su Bai said seriously, deciding to teach them a lesson this time.

“Right, in the future we’ll exchange one ceramic bowl for ten bags of dried meat!” Yan Jiao said angrily. But thinking of the Shaman Technique the Shaman knew, plus the fact that growing corn in the Flame Dragon Tribe would not be a problem, he wasn’t as angry anymore.

Su Bai blinked his black eyes and asked, “Where are they staying now?”

“I don’t know. The Tribe’s people should be arranging it.” Yan Jiao shook his head.

“Good, then tell them we won’t need these seeds next time.” Su Bai said, leaning back in his chair.

He wanted to warn those people first, suggesting they should not harbour such pointless thoughts. This time, he would pretend to be at a disadvantage, making the other party worry a bit. That way, they would try to get in his good graces in the future.

“Yes,” Yan Jiao responded immediately.

Even without Su Bai’s words, he would have sent someone to warn those people.
