I Became The Chief Of A Primitive Village

Chapter 453, After Learning for So Long, It’s Finally Going to Be Put to Use

When Su Bai finished dealing with the horse, he went to the farmland to plant the cabbage seeds. He also used the Growth Acceleration Skill on all the cabbage seeds to make them sprout sooner. Afterward, he returned to the cement house and began planning the upcoming developments.

Now that the Tribe had hot air balloons and horse carriages, various aspects of development would gradually improve.

“Shaman, will those horses really obey?” Yu Ying suddenly asked.

She was still shaken by what had just happened, which was truly frightening. If horses continued to behave like they did today, the people riding in the carriages would be in danger.

“They’ll all gradually become obedient. They still need to be trained for a while.” Su Bai smiled.

Although these horses were naturally wild, he had already used his Taming Skill on them, so they would not be too difficult to handle. They were just sensitive to pain, which is why they reacted strongly to the whip. They just needed time to get accustomed to it.

“There are many horses. So, Shaman will be busy for quite a while.” Yu Ying said with concern. She certainly did not want the Shaman to overwork himself.

The brown horse had started to calm down, and when Qing Mu tried to control her again, she was not agitated anymore. Instead, she became exceptionally docile and obedient, just like when Su Bai was handling her. After repeating this many times with the same result, even when Su Bai walked away, the horse remained well-behaved. This meant the brown horse had been completely trained, and the carriage could now be put into use.

“It’s fine, it won’t take too much time.” Su Bai waved dismissively.

The Flame Dragon Tribe was not small now, and one carriage was definitely not enough. They had brought back seven horses from the Hunting Ground. If all these horses were used for carriages, the number would be enough for now, as the Tribe was still laying many roads.

All the cement roads within the Tribe converged at the main gate, despite crossing back and forth. The final meeting point would always be the main gate.

The main gate of the Flame Dragon Tribe was no longer facing the forest side but had been changed to face the river side. However, the wooden wall there had not been dismantled yet, so it was not a proper gate. The actual dismantling work and the construction of the main gate would have to wait until after the snow season.

This was because the Tribe currently did not have enough manpower. Additionally, the city walls also needed to be built, and it would be better to build the main gate together with the city walls. So, the work on the main gate had to be postponed. Everything had to wait until there were more people.

“Shaman, what are you drawing?” Yu Ying asked.

Su Bai waved the pencil in his hand and said, “I’m designing identity cards. Everyone needs to have their own proof of identity.”

It was actually a census. They did not know exactly how many people were in the Tribe or the male-to-female ratio. The purpose of conducting a census now was for future management, as there would be many occasions where identity cards would be needed.

Since they wanted to develop the Tribe into a city, identity cards were a necessity. Everyone in the Tribe needed their own proof of identity, which would make management easier. When distributing food, having them use identity cards to receive it would be more convenient.

Moreover, those who had identity cards first would be the original members of the Flame Dragon Tribe. After all, the original members would always be the first to receive the benefits – since he needed people he trusted to do certain matter first.

“Identity card? What is an identity card?” Yu Ying was puzzled by this unfamiliar term.

“It’s something that proves your identity. In the future, you’ll need it to enter and leave the Tribe,” Su Bai said seriously.

“Something that proves our identity? But everyone in the Tribe knows each other. Won’t this be unnecessary?” Yu Ying tilted her head.

“It will be different in the future. This identity card will accompany you for life. Everyone in the Tribe must have one.” Su Bai said.

Yu Ying nodded with partial understanding and continued to ask, “Shaman, what will be written on this identity card?”

“Your name, an identity number, and where you live,” Su Bai said softly.

The identity card basically included these items, plus a photo. However, since they did not have photography technology now, this could not be implemented. Another point was the issuing address, which could simply be filled in as Su Bai’s current residence. This was not difficult.

The more challenging part was the names. Most people in the Tribe were illiterate, with only knowledge of some numbers. So, conducting a census would be troublesome, as they needed someone literate to register.

“Shaman, but most people can’t read. How will they write their names?” Yu Ying had the same concern.

“They don’t need to write. We’ll register their names and identity numbers for them.” Su Bai said.

“Shaman, but with so many people, registration will take a lot of time, and you’re the only one who can read everyone’s name.” Yu Ying said hesitantly.

“I know, that’s why I need your help,” Su Bai smiled gently.

This was the reason he had not conducted a census for so long — because he was the only truly literate person in the entire Tribe. If he were to conduct a census, he would be the only one busy.

That was why he had been teaching the girls to read during this period, almost two to three hours every day. All the characters he taught were the most basic and frequently used ones. In just a few short months, they had learned many characters. The girls were also eager to learn and studied characters diligently outside of class. They were currently at the level of elementary school students on Earth. They could recognize most characters as long as they were not too complex.

“Us? But we don’t know that many characters,” Yu Ying suddenly felt pressured.

This was the first time their literacy skills would be put to use since they started learning, so they inevitably felt nervous.

“It’s enough. The names of people in the Tribe are quite simple, and many are even the same. The characters you’ve learned are enough.” Su Bai said.

Every day, the girls learned ten Chinese characters. Initially, they learned very simple ones like mountain, river, lake, and so on. Later, they progressed to more difficult ones.

“Shaman, I’ll try my best. I’ll definitely help you,” Yu Ying said earnestly.

Yu Ying was willing to try anything that could make the Shaman less tired, especially since they had been learning characters for so long and should put them to use.

“Call Ah’Lan over, and I’ll explain to both of you,” Su Bai instructed.

“Yes,” Yu Ying nodded and left the second floor.
