I Became The Chief Of A Primitive Village

Chapter 483, Unable to Grow

“We’re almost there, almost there, just ahead,” Kai shouted loudly.

He had already sensed the familiar place; just ahead was where they had been before.

“Yes, just a bit further and we’ll arrive,” Li nodded in agreement.

They had already been travelling from the Giant Bear Tribe for some time, following the path they had taken previously. Fortunately, they had the foresight to leave markings on their return journey; otherwise, they truly would not have been able to find their way back to the Flame Dragon Tribe.

“Finally, we’re almost there. It really is quite far…” Luo frowned, not expecting the journey to be so long.

He had thought it would take three or four days, but now it was the seventh day, and the round trip would take more than ten days.

*Step step step…* Without further discussion, they continued advancing toward their destination, focusing only on reaching so that they could finally rest.

Two hours later, the people from the Giant Bear Tribe emerged from the forest and arrived at the entrance of the Flame Dragon Tribe.

“This is it!” Kai sighed with relief. They had finally arrived, and he was utterly exhausted.

With the mindset that they were about to arrive, they had not rested much at all, instead they kept pressing forward continuously.

“Is this the Flame Dragon Tribe?” Kuang curiously surveyed the surroundings of the Tribe. He found this Tribe quite peculiar. [Why are there so many large wooden houses outside, and why is all that soil turned over? Wouldn’t it be better to use that energy for hunting? Perhaps the soil has something to do with ceramics? Is this the reason they could create such beautiful ceramics? But that should not be the case, right?]

After all, ceramics did not look like they were made from soil at all; rather, they appeared ingeniously crafted, seemingly having nothing whatsoever to do with soil.

“This is the place, though the outside looks somewhat different from what I remember,” Kai said with confusion.

What he saw matched what Kuang saw, so he found it very strange. How could the place be so different after being away for just over ten days?

“Never mind, let’s go in,” Kuang took the lead and stepped forward, but after walking only a short distance, they were stopped by the Totem Warriors at the entrance.

“Who are you? What do you want in our Tribe?” A Totem Warrior at the entrance of the Flame Dragon Tribe asked. He saw that too many people had come, and the Flame Dragon Tribe was certainly not a market, so he could not help but wonder why would these people come here?

“We are from the Giant Bear Tribe. We stayed in your Tribe for a period during the rainy season,” Kai stepped forward to explain.

“The rainy season is over, and you left. Why have you brought so many people now?” The Totem Warrior sternly asked.

For the Totem Warriors, they were prepared to report back at any moment. This time they were much more confident. They swore to never be like before, when they were caught unprepared during the Black Snake Tribe’s attack.

If these people had come to cause trouble, they would certainly not go easy on them.

Moreover, their Tribe now had more people and more weapons, plus with Su Bai’s leadership, they were not afraid of these people at all.

“Please don’t misunderstand. We’ve come to discuss cooperation with your Chieftain, as we mentioned before we left.” Kai said earnestly.

He thought their reaction was normal and did not find it odd; they just needed to communicate properly.

“Wait here while I report to our Chieftain.” The Totem Warrior solemnly said.

*Step step step…* He immediately turned and ran into the Tribe. This was not a time to be careless. Because the snow season was approaching, all Tribes were very busy and had no time to provoke a war.

About fifteen minutes later, the Totem Warrior returned to the entrance and, after speaking with Kai and the others, led them into the Tribe.

*Step step step…* Kai and his group were arranged in a wooden house, though only about ten people could enter; the others had to temporarily wait at the entrance.

Yan Jiao entered the wooden house with a solemn expression, his hands behind his back, and he asked, “I didn’t expect you to come back so soon.”

He had thought this cooperation would have to wait until after the snow season, so he had not expected the other party to return so quickly.

“Because your items are truly amazing, Chieftain. Our Chieftain really likes them, so he immediately sent us back.” Kai quickly explained.

He did not know why, but his eloquence had suddenly improved, allowing him to speak to another Tribe’s Chieftain without stammering. Previously, he would stutter whenever he got nervous and was somewhat reluctant to speak.

“Have you brought everything I asked for? I won’t accept just meat.” Yan Jiao asked in a deep voice.

He had previously told them he wanted crop seeds in addition to some dried meat.

“I’ve brought everything the Chieftain requested, including the dried meat,” Kai said immediately.

This time he was more confident because he had brought what the other party wanted, which would make it easier to negotiate his own terms.

“Oh? What crop seeds have you brought this time? Let me see them first,” Yan Jiao’s attitude began to improve.

He had not expected the other party would actually bring crop seeds, thinking they would treasure such things.

It seemed that ceramics were indeed powerful; a single ceramic bowl had fascinated them so much that they returned without hesitation, even bringing crop seeds.

Kai nodded and took out a small package wrapped in animal hide from his bag, saying, “This is something very rare from our Tribe – Sweet Grain.”

Yan Jiao accepted the small package and opened it to see yellow grains.

He picked up one grain to examine it and asked, “Is this your Tribe’s specialty?”

“Yes, this tastes especially sweet and clear, and not everyone in our Tribe gets to eat it.” Kai promptly replied.

“If it’s so rare, why are you willing to trade it with us?” Yan Jiao asked.

“Because our Chieftain believes that compared to ceramics, the ceramics are certainly better than Sweet Grain.” Kai immediately answered.

He personally felt the same way, after all, they had kept some seeds and could grow them anytime. Moreover, not everyone could successfully grow these, and even in their Tribe, they rarely succeeded.

Sometimes out of the many they planted, only one or two would survive, which was why this item was so rare.

So, the reason they were willing to trade these Sweet Grain Seeds was because they knew the other party would also struggle to grow them successfully.

Besides, the quantity they provided this time was not much, only about ten seeds.

“But you’ve brought a rather small quantity. One seed plus two bags of dried meat can only be exchanged for one ceramic.” Yan Jiao deliberately showed a disdainful expression.

He wanted to make the other party think he did not value these items much, so he could get more in return.
