Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

”Look at that, now those are what you call open-minded parents.” Feng Yuzhi beamed with joy, ”Since that’s the case, I agree to your marriage. And I support it wholeheartedly.”

”I have no objections either,” Yan Luquan said. ”Our Yan Huan is pretty lucky, taking her time and finally finding her perfect match.”

”What are you all doing?” Yan Huan looked at them dissatisfied, ”Didn’t we agree? We’re just announcing the news, no plans of getting married yet!”

”Why? You’re already at this age and still not married? Haven’t you gotten to know each other enough?” Feng Yuzhi couldn’t wait to marry her off.

This would fulfill one of her wishes.

”You can’t do this! If you insist, I’ll really get angry.” Even though their relationship was confirmed, they should at least date for a while.

”Alright. Anyway, everything’s up to you.” Ji Chuan quickly said, ”There’s no rush. I’ve waited all these years, a few more days won’t hurt.”

”That’s more like it,” Yan Huan replied.

”Alright, since you don’t want to talk about this, let’s drop it. I’ve invited Qin Jian and his wife over for dinner later. Let’s get ready, Yan Huan, come with me.” Feng Yuzhi pulled Yan Huan’s wrist and led her into the kitchen.

Meanwhile, Ji Chuan was pulled aside by Yan Ye, who secretly asked, ”How did you manage to win over our little princess?”

Ji Chuan flashed a mysterious smile, ”Let’s just say it’s my personal charm!”

”Not going to tell, huh?” Yan Ye gave him a sideways glance, ”Fine, I’ll just tell Yan Huan to reconsider marrying you since you’re badmouthing her behind her back!”

”Hey, hey, hey! Aren’t you trying to start a family feud as her big brother?”

”Family feud? My sister hasn’t even agreed to marry you!”

”Well... it’s a long story, let me tell you in detail.” Ji Chuan, feeling helpless, had to recount the story of Yan Huan’s illness and their childhood encounters to Yan Ye.

Just in case, his brother-in-law doesn’t play by the rules and creates some obstacles, his path to marriage would only get longer.

...............

In the kitchen, Feng Yuzhi was preparing lunch for the family and brought Yan Huan over to help.

”If you and Ji Chuan have feelings for each other, it’s about time to get married. Don’t drag it out, as the saying goes, the longer you wait, the more complications arise.” Feng Yuzhi said while kneading dough.

”Wait! What do you mean by that?” Yan Huan grabbed a cucumber and crunched on it, dissatisfied with her mother’s words, ”Comrade Feng, can’t you wish better for me?”

Feng Yuzhi flicked her forehead lightly, ”What do you mean? What mother doesn’t wish the best for her daughter? It’s just your bad temper that worries me; what if Ji Chuan can’t tolerate it over time?”

”So you’re in a hurry to kick me out now?” Yan Huan snorted coldly from her nose.

”I’m only thinking of what’s best for you,” Feng Yuzhi said.

”We’ll see.” Yan Huan didn’t want to hear more, ”If there’s nothing else, I’m heading out!”

”Wait! I didn’t bring you in just to have you walk out immediately. You’re here to help with the cooking!”

”Why?” In the past, Old Feng wouldn’t let her do these things.

”Nonsense! I don’t want you to be returned after two days of marriage for being incapable of anything! I can’t afford to support you forever!” Feng Yuzhi shoved a potato into her hand.

”I... I really doubt if I’m your biological daughter!” Yan Huan fumed.
