Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

”Is the wife willing to come?” Yan Huan couldn’t figure it out. Even in such a poor place, where would a girl spend any money she gets?

There isn’t even basic living security here.

”Of course not. They’re all sold here by human traffickers.” Ji Shuanglin explained, ”The traffickers abduct young girls of suitable age and then sell them here for marriage and childbearing.”

Human traffickers!!

These three words suddenly struck a chord in Yan Huan’s heart.

She was also abducted as a child.

What was hateful was that she couldn’t remember a lot of the details, and when Jason hypnotized her, her mind resisted.

”Doesn’t the government take action?” Yan Huan was very angry.

”They do. But they can’t stop it!”

”So are they just letting them run wild?”

”Of course not. The government has been trying hard to govern this! Moreover, they even sent people here to survey the terrain and landscape, to find out why it doesn’t rain here and why even underground water is absent. Later, the problem was solved. Life here gradually recovered.”

Yan Huan stopped speaking.

She could imagine the miserable days those girls endured.

She couldn’t remember how she escaped after being abducted, only that the police said she met someone kind-hearted, and thanks to them, she returned.

Many of her memories were blurred, and some were disjointed. For years, she hadn’t dared to face this issue directly.

She deliberately suppressed them, selectively forgot them, until her mind had forgotten, but her body still exhibited strange reactions.

In fact, she really should thank the kind people the police mentioned who helped her!

Ji Chuan noticed Yan Huan was silent, understanding that she was likely reminiscing about her own childhood experiences. She too was once taken away by traffickers.

”Are you okay?” Ji Chuan reached out his hand to her.

Yan Huan placed her hand in his, his warm and gentle palm wrapped around hers, inexplicably bringing peace to her heart.

”What’s wrong? Is Yan Huan feeling uncomfortable?” Meng Qingmei thought Yan Huan felt distressed hearing about such things and said to her husband, ”Forget it, let’s not talk about it, it’s not a pleasant memory.”

”I just feel for those girls.”

There are girls who resisted fate and had their legs broken, locked up at home, suffering both physical and mental devastation. At the prime of their youth, when they were full of hopes for love and the future, their dreams were ruthlessly shattered.

It’s too cruel.

”So, what happens to these people now?” Yan Huan wanted to know if there were others as fortunate as herself, ”When they are sold here, if they don’t want to submit to those men, what do they do?”

”Escape. That’s their only way out.” Ji Chuan said.

Those years, he was just twelve or thirteen, and he witnessed the fate of many people.

”Can they escape?” Yan Huan looked up at him.

Ji Chuan’s jaw twitched a few times, the outline of his side profile tense: ”Some can. Some can’t escape. Some even die on the run.”

”Die...” Yan Huan let out a deep sigh and said softly, ”I’m lucky.”

Ji Chuan saw Yan Huan’s low mood and raised his hand to stroke the top of her head: ”It’s all in the past now, don’t keep it in your heart. Just treat it like a nightmare, and now you’ve woken up.”

”Hmm.” Yan Huan nodded.
