Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Yan Huan knew very well that not everyone could make such a decision so easily.

Cheng Yue was unable to make such a decision.

However, Ji Chuan insisted on being with her no matter what, and his parents agreed to come to Nancheng as well.

Perhaps, Ji Chuan made this decision because he was certain that his family would support his choice. Whereas Cheng Yue also wanted to make such a decision, but because his parents didn’t support him, he couldn’t be entirely blamed.

But, that’s how things are, sometimes dreams really do have to bow to reality.

”Thank you, Uncle and Auntie.” Yan Huan expressed her thanks politely, but in truth, she had already secretly decided that if Ji Chuan’s parents succeeded in settling in Nancheng, she would definitely treat them as her own biological parents.

”No need to thank us. From now on, we are one family. As long as you two have a good life together, I will be at ease.” Meng Qingmei said with a smile.

After the meal, Ji Chuan wanted to take Yan Huan for a stroll around Jiangning.

Yan Huan had been on leave for quite some time and would soon have to return to the army, so she would be going back shortly.

”Ji Chuan, your dad and I plan to return to our hometown. Isn’t it your grandfather’s memorial day soon? Your dad and I want to visit the grave.” Meng Qingmei came over early in the morning, not only to deliver breakfast and inquire about the couple’s future plans, but also for a more important reason: she hoped to take Ji Chuan back to the hometown as well.

After all, Ji Chuan had been so busy with work over the years that he rarely made it to his grandfather’s memorial day.

Grandpa Ji had always been very fond of this grandson.

While he was alive, he often thought about his grandson, knowing that Ji Chuan loved to eat the amber peanuts he made. Every peanut harvest season, he would busy himself alone in the kitchen, preparing several boxes to send to his grandson from the post office.

He never demanded his grandson to come visit him, knowing that his son was a military doctor, busy saving lives.

His greatest wish on his deathbed was to see his grandson one last time.

However, upon learning that Ji Chuan had a major surgery scheduled that only he could perform, he refused to let Ji Chuan come back no matter what.

That day, after completing the surgery, Ji Chuan sat alone on the hospital’s twelfth-floor terrace, drinking and feeling the wind until dawn.

”Mom, Dad, I’m going back too.” Ji Chuan said without hesitation, holding Yan Huan’s hand, ”I want Grandpa to know that I’ve brought back a granddaughter-in-law for him.”

”Good. Your Grandpa will surely be very happy.” Ji Shuanglin nodded.

From Jiangning to Ji Chuan’s hometown wasn’t far, taking about two hours by bus.

On the bus, Yan Huan rested her chin on her hand, gazing at the scenery outside with a blissful smile on her lips.

Ever since breaking up with Cheng Yue, she hadn’t been this happy for a long time.

”What are you smiling about?” Ji Chuan, waking from a nap, opened his eyes to see Yan Huan grinning foolishly and asked.

”Cheng Yue once said that the scenery of Jiangning is as beautiful as a painting. I’ve always wanted to see it for myself, and indeed, different places have different charms.” Yan Huan said, beaming.

Before, leaving Nancheng was a luxury she dared not dream of.

”Don’t think about Cheng Yue anymore.” Ji Chuan took Yan Huan’s hand, clasping it tightly in his own, ”You are my wife now, and I won’t allow my wife to think of any other man.”

Yan Huan wrinkled her nose, ”I’ve only just agreed to be with you. Don’t get ahead of yourself; who’s your wife? Stop calling me your wife at every turn. As for what will happen between us in the future, no one can say for sure.”
