Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

You could tell him the world would explode tomorrow, and he wouldn’t be this shocked.

But Ji Chuan never expected this. He indeed helped children like Yan Huan who were kidnapped when he was young.

Since he helped quite a few, no particular child seemed special.

Back then, his father told him that these girls who were sold were actually very pitiful. If they ever asked for your help, you must help them.

During those years, Ji Chuan passed on messages for many girls.

So, he really didn’t have any impression of that dirty little girl he met on the road. Besides, she was so dirty at the time that her appearance was unrecognizable, her face covered by wind and dust, looking like a little spotted cat.

Yan Huan was only about eight or nine years old back then, right?

Now she is thirty, and no matter what, Ji Chuan could not connect Yan Huan to that little girl.

”It’s me! It really is me!” Yan Huan’s tears flowed freely, ”Just a moment ago, all the sealed memories revived at once! You were so good-looking back then.”

”Destiny!” Ji Chuan looked up laughing, ”So my fate had been determined long ago! After all these years of twists and turns, fate has brought you back to me once more!”

”It was you who gave me hope and warmth at my most desperate time!” Yan Huan tightly grasped his clothes soaked with her tears, smiling, ”No wonder, no wonder...”

”No wonder what?”

”No wonder every time I got sick, as long as you were by my side, I didn’t feel that uncomfortable! It eased so easily...”

”This is your subconscious trust in me. You feel safe being near me!” Ji Chuan added.

”Mm-hmm!”

”Thank Heaven!” Ji Chuan tightly embraced Yan Huan in his arms, ”Now it’s alright. I am the irreplaceable one in your life.”

He never would have thought that during her most desperate time, he brought her a thread of hope and warmth.

The two of them were crying and laughing, sometimes tightly hugging, sometimes holding hands and looking at each other.

Ji Shuanglin and his wife were utterly bewildered.

”Are you guys filming a movie?” Meng Qingmei finally couldn’t hold back, ”What exactly is going on? Your father and I are at a loss.”

”We’ve finally found the root cause of Yan Huan’s entire sickness!”

The reason Yan Huan would vomit at the sight of blood is that she saw a vast amount of fresh blood. A child of eight or nine seeing such a scene could be said to be her lifelong shadow and nightmare.

She was terrified, afraid, and the best solution was to forget.

She purposely chose to forget. Likewise, the memory was sealed, but her body reacted.

So, she became afraid of blood, afraid of dust.

Because that’s her deepest inner fear, a terror she couldn’t speak of to anyone.

.........

On the way back to the city, Yan Huan leaned against the car window, quietly gazing at the scenery outside.

”What’s the matter? Still not feeling well?” Ji Chuan leaned over, resting his chin in the nook of her neck, hot breath from his mouth and nose sprinkling densely on Yan Huan.

His voice, low and smooth, with a hint of hoarseness, stirred an itch in Yan Huan’s heart.

”No. The last time that scar-faced old guy almost took away my godson! Fortunately, the police and security swiftly rescued them. I don’t know if that scar-faced guy was caught.” He killed that young lady; he is a damned person!
