Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

His profile was handsome and serene. If it weren’t for the slight frown between his brows even in sleep, he’d be incredibly charming.

Shen Qiqi gently reached out to smooth the creases between his brows, only to see his eyelashes flutter and his eyes slowly open.

”Cheng Yue...” Shen Qiqi called to him softly.

Cheng Yue was instantly wide awake, tightly gripping Qiqi’s hand: ”You’re awake!”

”Yeah. I never thought I’d still be alive...” Shen Qiqi’s lips curled into a smile, ”It’s wonderful.”

She had just woken up and wasn’t yet aware of her condition, unaware that she could no longer walk.

Cheng Yue wanted to tell her, but he couldn’t bear to reveal such a harsh truth directly.

However, the truth cannot be hidden forever.

One day, she would eventually find out.

”Qiqi...” Cheng Yue deliberated in his mind before asking, ”If the person lying under the car wheels was me, and I was gravely injured, losing the ability to take care of myself, would you still stay with me?”

”Silly!” Shen Qiqi laughed, ”I would give up my life for you, why would I care if you could take care of yourself?”

After saying this, Shen Qiqi seemed to realize something, ”What do you mean by this? Is it that I can’t take care of myself?”

”No, it’s not!” Cheng Yue quickly denied.

”You must be lying to me.” Shen Qiqi didn’t believe Cheng Yue’s words, ”Am I disabled?”

She tried to move her limbs, and suddenly made a discovery: from the waist down, she had no sensation at all.

”Am I paralyzed? Am I!!!”

”No, you’re not!” Cheng Yue looked at her terrified eyes and repeatedly reassured her, ”You’re not paralyzed. Don’t worry, you’ve just sustained nerve and muscle damage. After rehabilitation, you’ll definitely be able to stand up and return to normal life.”

”I don’t believe it...” She’s not a child; by looking at Cheng Yue’s eyes, she knew something must have happened to her.

”Let’s not talk about this topic.” Cheng Yue didn’t want to continue discussing it with her. Having to accept such a cruel fact right after waking up was not something everyone could do, ”Let’s discuss something else? Like, our wedding...”

”Wedding?” Shen Qiqi’s eyes suddenly lit up, ”Ours?”

”Yes. Ours!” Cheng Yue repeated, ”We had agreed before, as long as you woke up, I was willing to let you lean on my chest for a lifetime! This is my promise to you! Qiqi, marry me!”

This happiness came too suddenly; Shen Qiqi could hardly believe her ears.

”You’re not lying to me?”

”I’m not.” Cheng Yue said earnestly, ”Once you’re discharged, we’ll register for marriage!”

”Alright! Yes!” Shen Qiqi was moved to tears.

It was something she didn’t even dare to dream of, yet it was a dream she had yearned for many years.

”Then get well soon!”

”Mm-hmm.” Shen Qiqi nodded repeatedly, but the joy lasted only two seconds before the light in her eyes dissipated, ”What if I can never stand up again?”

”Then I’ll take care of you for a lifetime.” After what happened, Cheng Yue had made peace with it; his own love had become intangible. It was better to fulfill Shen Qiqi’s dreams.
