Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

”Qiqi, you go back first! I have one more question to ask Yan Huan! If I don’t get this question clear, I won’t be able to settle my mind!” After Cheng Yue finished speaking, he turned and walked away.

”Cheng Yue! Can you talk about it tomorrow? The rain is too heavy, Yan Huan and Ji Chuan might have left already!” Shen Qiqi called after him, trying to keep up.

”Don’t worry about it! You go back!” Cheng Yue was solely focused on meeting Yan Huan.

Earlier, he forgot to ask how Yan Huan’s illness was treated. Was she with Ji Chuan out of gratitude? If she had paid attention to Yan Huan’s odd illness earlier, could he have helped cure her successfully?

He was consumed with asking this question and didn’t notice the car rushing out from the intersection.

”Cheng Yue—!” Shen Qiqi let out a heart-wrenching scream.

Immediately afterward, Cheng Yue felt a tremendous force crash into him. In that instant, he heard a loud bang, and his whole body fell to the ground.

When he struggled to get up, his arm was in excruciating pain. He looked down and saw a layer of skin scraped off his arm.

”Someone’s been hit! Someone’s been hit!” Bystanders shouted.

Cheng Yue looked back in a daze, only to see Shen Qiqi lying unconscious under the car.

On the ground, a trail of blood meandered with the rainwater, staining his white dress red.

At that moment, Cheng Yue’s mind exploded with a loud bang.

He rushed under the car, trying to pull Shen Qiqi out. However, Shen Qiqi’s legs were pinned by the car’s tires, completely immobile.

”Qiqi! Qiqi! Wake up!” Cheng Yue screamed in agony, ”You can’t die! Please wake up!”

Shen Qiqi awoke from her stupor, weakly raising her hand. She wanted to touch Cheng Yue’s face, but she didn’t have the strength. She merely said with difficulty, ”It’s a good thing you’re okay.”

Cheng Yue was driven mad by her words. He crawled out from under the car and pounded frantically on the window, yelling at the driver, who was already petrified, ”Reverse! Reverse the car! You’ve run over Qiqi!”

The driver, not expecting such an accident, was already so scared he couldn’t move: ”I... my legs are weak!”

Cheng Yue opened the car door, yanked the driver out, and threw him to the ground, using all his strength to lift the car.

He didn’t know how to drive and dared not try easily, knowing Qiqi’s life lay beneath the wheels.

But he couldn’t lift it alone and shouted for help to the people on the roadside: ”Someone, come help and save her!”

Hearing the cries for help, bystanders rushed over from all directions, lending their hands to lift the car. Collaborating with great effort, they managed to move the car away.

Cheng Yue went up to hold the barely conscious Shen Qiqi, frantically arranging her hair, tears mingling with rain as they rolled down his cheeks: ”Hang in there! I’ve already called for an ambulance and contacted the compound. They’ll be here soon. You have to hold on; don’t let them down!”

”I’m so sleepy... Cheng Yue gege, I’m cold and sleepy, can I rest for a bit? Just sleep in your arms...” Shen Qiqi felt all her strength draining away, even lacking the energy to speak or open her eyes.

”Don’t sleep. Qiqi, don’t sleep now. Once you’re better, you can sleep in my arms as long as you want, okay?” Cheng Yue’s nose stung fiercely, tears falling in large drops onto Shen Qiqi’s face.
