Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

”Okay.” Yan Huan giggled sweetly and moved in for a kiss.

Under the vast starlit sky, the two of them held each other tightly.

In this summer night, for the first time, their hearts were so close, yet they longed to be even closer.

That night, Yan Huan and Ji Chuan returned to their new home.

However, without a word, the two of them didn’t cross that final line.

Yan Huan wanted to leave certain things for the wedding night, and Ji Chuan also wanted to save the most beautiful things for the best time.

The next morning, Meng Qingmei and Ji Shuanglin brought breakfast for the two of them.

This time, they didn’t barge in but instead knocked on the door for a long time.

Ji Chuan opened the door, feeling refreshed, only to see his mother giving him a meaningful look.

”It’s not what you think.” Ji Chuan could see right through his mother’s thoughts, ”I’ve waited for so many years, I don’t mind waiting a little longer.”

Meng Qingmei smiled without speaking.

Yan Huan came out of the bathroom and, seeing the two elders had arrived, hurriedly greeted them, ”Uncle, Auntie, thank you for bringing us breakfast!”

”Not at all, not at all!” Ji Shuanglin waved his hand dismissively, ”Your aunt is very happy. Her heart is practically bursting with joy; even when you were sleep-talking last night, you had a smile.”

”Old Ji, you’re always making things up about me. Aren’t you the same way?”

”Yes, I am too. I’m very happy. I almost thought our Ji Family would be left without descendants. I never expected Ji Chuan to quietly bring home a wife.” It truly exceeded his expectations.

”Come on, let’s all eat together.” Meng Qingmei invited everyone.

At the dining table, Ji Shuanglin brought up Ji Chuan’s marriage.

Since the two were not young and truly in love, marriage was inevitably on the agenda.

”What are your plans regarding marriage?”

Yan Huan stopped eating and looked at Ji Chuan.

”Of course, we’re going to get married. It’s just that there are some issues between us that need to be addressed first,” Ji Chuan said, somewhat vaguely.

”What issues? See if we can help in any way?” Meng Qingmei asked.

”You can’t help with this. It’s not urgent, it will be resolved in time.”

”Alright. But make sure to resolve it soon. Once it’s resolved, both of you come back to Jiangning to get married quickly. At that time, you can find a job at the hospital here. And Yan Huan, your job is...?”

”I’m a soldier.” After Yan Huan finished answering, a slight worry crept into her heart.

As their relationship was confirmed, they would face a choice.

Whether to come to Jiangning or stay in Nancheng.

This was the question she feared the most.

”That’s not a problem either. Can’t you apply for a transfer in the military?” Meng Qingmei suggested.

Yan Huan’s heart immediately tightened, and her palms began to sweat from the tension.

She fervently hoped there wouldn’t be any issues with this; she couldn’t bear any more setbacks.

”Mom, I don’t plan to return to Jiangning.” Ji Chuan gently held Yan Huan’s hand under the table and said earnestly, ”I plan to stay in Nancheng.”

”Why? Is it just because of your job? Isn’t it the same wherever you work? Do you really have to leave us old folks behind?” Ji Shuanglin couldn’t understand what his son was thinking.

”Yan Huan’s health isn’t good; she can’t leave Nancheng! Where Yan Huan is, is where I need to stay!”
