Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

”Hey, look, this is our Ji Family’s old house.” Ji Shuanglin pointed at a dilapidated stone and adobe house ahead. ”After your grandparents passed away, no one lived here. I come back every two years to repair it, but a house without residents decays quickly.”

Recalling past events, Ji Chuan sighed, time waits for no one.

Grandfather had already passed away, and in the blink of an eye, he was already in his thirties.

”Qingmei, open the door. Let Yan Huan see our courtyard.” Ji Shuanglin had already considered Yan Huan part of the family.

The ancestral home, naturally, was something she should see.

With a key, Meng Qingmei opened the rusty iron lock. Accompanied by the creaking sound of the wooden door, the years of dust unfolded before Yan Huan’s eyes.

Several peach trees were planted in the courtyard, which was kept very clean, and the doors and windows were spotless. From a distance, it didn’t appear to have been uninhabited for long.

Ji Shuanglin and his wife walked in. Yan Huan lifted her leg to enter but was stopped by Ji Chuan: ”Wait, let the dust inside settle first.”

Yan Huan was moved by his attentiveness: ”You still remember these things.”

”I remember everything about you.” Ji Chuan’s affectionate words made one’s heart feel warm and sweet.

The dust settled in the courtyard, and only then did Ji Chuan walk in with Yan Huan.

”How odd.” Yan Huan looked at the neatly organized courtyard, puzzled, ”There’s not even a single spider web.”

The ground inside was paved with green bricks. Tender green grass sprang from the crevices, and the little flowers blooming there were incredibly beautiful.

For two years without visiting, the courtyard should be overgrown, shouldn’t it?

Even if not as tall as a person, half that height should be expected, right?

”Now I come back every month with your aunt to tidy up. Why don’t you take a look around? Then we’ll go visit grandfather’s grave.” Ji Shuanglin suggested.

”Alright.” Yan Huan genuinely took a careful tour of the courtyard, not just the yard itself, but every single room, each look giving her a sense of familiarity, a curious sense of familiarity.

”What’s wrong?” Ji Chuan noticed her expression wasn’t right.

”I feel like I’ve seen this before.” Yan Huan closed her eyes, her mind rapidly replaying some scenes, and suddenly a light flashed in her mind, her whole body trembling, ”Ji Chuan, here... it’s here!”

”What?” Ji Chuan was startled by her, seeing her pale face and hastening breath, his heart tightened suddenly, reaching out to pull Yan Huan into his embrace, ”Huanhuan, what’s wrong? Did something come back to you?”

”Yes!” Yan Huan pointed at the courtyard, ”I’ve been here before. I’ve been here!”

Previously, when she went with the Qin Jian couple to He Family Manor to visit Chenguang, she felt that He Fusheng’s courtyard seemed familiar.

She thought for a long time before remembering that it was in her dreams.

And Jason said her dreams were reflections of reality, meaning she had seen this courtyard in real life.

Ever since undergoing hypnosis, her repressed memories seemed to be slowly unlocking.

Just now, in that fleeting moment, she seemed to see herself curled up in the room, peeking through the crack in the door at this courtyard.

In the courtyard was a white moonlight that was out of reach for her.

Back in He Fusheng’s courtyard, something felt off, and now she knew, it was the green bricks in this courtyard!

There were no green bricks in the He Family courtyard, but here there are!

There are here!
