Starting As a Young Eagle, I Evolve Into an Ice Beast

81: Chapter 81: Dragon Kingdom’s Attempt to Win Him Over Fuels Bai Xuan.”What is it?”

Bai Xuan shrank his body until he was about the same height as Major General Long Shaoyang.

Witnessing Bai Xuan shrink his body with his own eyes, Major General Long Shaoyang was truly astonished, marveling inwardly that he was indeed the number one Frost Giant Eagle on the Beast Ranking.

Truly terrifying!

”I would like to ask... what is your opinion of Dragon Country?”

Before Major General Long Shaoyang came here, he had accepted a commission from his superiors.

If he could recruit Bai Xuan, that would naturally be for the best; if not, he should at least maintain a good relationship with him for the time being. Now was not the time to go to war with the beasts; they needed to make preparations and plan for the worst-case scenario before declaring war on the beasts.

Likewise, Bai Xuan was currently still useful to Dragon Country. If he could suppress the beasts in the Far East Region and buy more time for Dragon Country to develop, the benefits would outweigh the disadvantages.

After all, Dragon Country was not just facing the beasts in the Far East Region, but also other countries eyeing them covetously, as well as beasts. If they were to get bogged down, burning through money and resources, the future would be very difficult.

”What? You want to recruit me?” Bai Xuan smiled indifferently, his tone tinged with mockery.

Bai Xuan knew clearly... this was absolutely impossible.

”If Mr. Bai is willing, it is not impossible.” Major General Long Shaoyang smiled calmly and composedly.

”I killed your Dragon Country Soldier and stole your belongings; can you really tolerate me?” Bai Xuan naturally did not believe his nonsense.

Their positions were different. In the face of national interests, Bai Xuan appeared insignificant and difficult to accept. They might very well strike at him; there were a thousand ways and reasons to stab him in the back, and with their intelligence, they could easily come up with a suitable justification.

Major General Long Shaoyang’s expression turned ugly for a moment. Even if Bai Xuan hadn’t killed the Dragon Country Soldier, they still wouldn’t trust him, because from the very beginning, they had repeatedly attacked Bai Xuan, trying to put him to death.

Precisely because of this, they would never believe that Bai Xuan would willingly serve Dragon Country, and this recruitment was merely for the sake of immediate interests.

”Everything can be discussed.” Major General Long Shaoyang offered a forced smile.

”You won’t trust me, and I won’t trust you. Our positions are different. Furthermore, you were the ones who attacked me first, and only then did I retaliate. Come to think of it, my actions are barely justifiable. But what about you? For the sake of the big picture of the nation, you won’t treat beasts equally. I can understand that, but I won’t forgive it. So, there is nothing left to say. Who gets the last laugh depends on their own ability.”

Bai Xuan sneered, speaking the truth.

Reaching this point was not what Bai Xuan wanted, but it was unavoidable; Bai Xuan would not let himself be slaughtered.

Major General Long Shaoyang was amazed by Bai Xuan’s rhetoric, which was not without reason and was well-founded:

”Although we are technically enemies, I have to admit that what you said makes a lot of sense. I can also see your true nature; reaching this point was not your wish. If you are willing to trust me, I can resolve any difficulties and malice directed at you, allowing you to gain recognition.

In the future, when Dragon Country overcomes its difficulties and reaches a higher level, there will definitely be a place for you. I can swear on my life that I will do what I say and will never go back on my word. We will share blessings and hardships; we will rise and fall together.”

Major General Long Shaoyang spoke very sincerely; Bai Xuan satisfied him greatly, and he had come to recognize Bai Xuan.

If he could recruit him into his own camp, in time, he would surely achieve great things, and it was not impossible for him to even become a guardian beast of the country.

”Mr. Bai, we can do the same. If you are willing, we will certainly do our best to cultivate you, and resources will be prioritized for you.” Major General Kardik heard this and became completely anxious; he absolutely could not let Dragon Country get to Bai Xuan first.

He could see the importance of Bai Xuan. If he had its help, Bear Country would surely become a hegemon in the future!

Moreover, Bai Xuan’s personality was acceptable; at the very least, he kept his word. Precisely because of this, no matter how great the price, it would be worth it as long as Bai Xuan joined their camp.

Even now, it wouldn’t be a loss. By controlling the entire Far East Region, Bear Country could seize the initiative in whatever they wanted to do.

”Major General Kardik, you!” Major General Long Shaoyang was somewhat dissatisfied. This was clearly snatching the eagle from him! There had to be a first-come, first-served order, right?

”Sorry, Major General Long, Mr. Bai is very important to us, therefore, we are willing to pay any price.”

Major General Kardik shook his head with a wry smile. First-come, first-served? He preferred to call it fair competition.

Bai Xuan looked at Major General Long Shaoyang, meeting his gaze. His eyes were sincere, and there was no hint of lying to be seen. A moment later, Bai Xuan laughed out loud:

”Hahaha, interesting, truly interesting! You are bestowing charity upon me, but don’t forget, you were the ones who provoked me first. Now you turn around and bestow charity upon me, asking me to join you? To work for you? Do I have to be grateful for this?”

Bai Xuan became a little angry, and his aura surged. Just as Bai Xuan said, this was charity! To gain recognition, one had to be devoted and diligent, and most importantly, they had to apologize and pay a price to barely receive some tolerance—whether they could be forgiven was another matter entirely.

Furthermore, it wasn’t Bai Xuan who provoked them first, yet they were now putting on an act as if they would forgive him as long as he admitted his fault.

Why would he need their forgiveness? When humans kill beasts, it’s considered right? When beasts kill humans, it’s considered wrong!

What kind of ridiculous logic is this?

”That is not what I meant, Mr. Bai, please calm down first.”

”Then what do you mean? When you can win, you bomb wildly, and when you can’t handle me, you think about recruiting me, while acting as if I was the one at fault first, needing to work hard to gain your recognition, or rather, your forgiveness. Why should I beg for your forgiveness? Let me tell you, beasts will never forgive your actions, nor will they apologize.”

Bai Xuan laughed in anger. What did ”calm down” mean? Did they think he wouldn’t have a temper after being targeted by them for so long? He had already been very calm and given them face by not attacking immediately, and now they were saying these things.

Seeing that Bai Xuan was angry, Major General Kardik simply stopped talking.

Major General Long Shaoyang became uncharacteristically flustered and quickly denied it: ”I didn’t mean that...”

”Fine, since that’s not what you meant, then tell me, when I killed those Soldier and took those things, was it right or wrong? Do you hate me? And when you killed so many beasts and attacked me repeatedly, was that... right or wrong? Should the beasts hate you?”

Major General Long Shaoyang could not answer this question. Perhaps he already had the answer in his heart; what normal person would put animals on the same level as humans?

Let alone above humans. From the very beginning, he believed that killing beasts was correct; it was all for the sake of humanity and the nation.

And Bai Xuan killing humans was a heinous crime that had to be eliminated. That was how he viewed it from the start; they would not beg for the forgiveness and recognition of beasts.

And if Bai Xuan wanted to join the human camp, he had to convince the masses, apologize for his actions, and beg for forgiveness; this was inevitable.

After all, the incident where Bai Xuan killed Dragon Country Soldier and took the cargo had been widely reported. If he wanted to clear his name, the first step was to apologize and pay the price for his actions, only then could he receive forgiveness and recognition.

Major General Long Shaoyang naturally viewed the problem from a human perspective, especially regarding a major event like killing Dragon Country Soldier. In their eyes, Bai Xuan was no different from a heinous criminal, and they might never forgive him, not even in a lifetime.
