Starting As a Young Eagle, I Evolve Into an Ice Beast

66: Chapter 66 Xiong Lei, Betrayal? Some time passed.

Yuan Jin arrived at the location with a large group of fierce beasts.

Walking at the very front were the commanders of the Black Bear clan. Their bodies were covered in more or less visible scars, some of which hadn’t even healed yet, giving them a fierce and menacing appearance.

”Yuan Jin, give us the lowdown. Why did the Bear King summon us here?”

”Exactly, tell us so we can be mentally prepared.”

The Bear King summoning so many fierce beasts here surely meant something big was happening.

Whether it was good or bad for them remained unknown for now.

However, their impression of the Bear King was that he was domineering and majestic, someone who did not tolerate disobedience. This kind of Bear King had both pros and cons for them.

The good part was that the Bear King had ambition and could lead them to higher levels. The bad part was that he was too irritable and lacked planning; he was all brawn and no brains, constantly making them invade and seize the territories of other clans.

While they did indeed obtain many resources this way, they also suffered heavy casualties.

”Don’t be in such a hurry. You’ll know when you get there,” Yuan Jin waved his hand. There was no way he would tell them the truth.

If they found out the Bear King was already dead and that he had seamlessly transitioned to serving another beast, they would surely skin him alive.

Because of this, Yuan Jin simply didn’t explain anything. He just said the Bear King had summoned them and told them to ask the Bear King themselves if they had questions.

”How stingy. And to think I’m usually so good to you.”

”Exactly. Commander Xiong Lei saved your life before. Is this how you repay your life-saving bear?”

Yuan Jin sighed helplessly. ”Don’t make things difficult for me. Besides, aren’t we almost there? You can just ask for yourselves when we arrive.”

”Hmph, fine, don’t tell us then. I didn’t want to know that badly anyway.”

Suddenly, Xiong Lei stopped in his tracks, his brow furrowed. ”Something’s wrong. There’s a strange and powerful aura!”

Hearing this, the other Bear Clan commanders immediately became alert. They stopped, their eyes turning vicious as they bared their teeth and growled at the forest ahead.

”Eh? Hey, Yuan Jin, where are you running off to?” Suddenly, a Bear Clan commander noticed Yuan Jin was acting suspiciously, quietly slipping away toward the left.

”Yuan Jin, come back! The situation is bad right now, don’t wander off, or we won’t be able to look out for you if you run into danger!”

Xiong Lei was highly alert, but he also shouted anxiously for Yuan Jin not to run off.

Upon hearing their words, Yuan Jin vanished in a flash.

Yuan Jin thought it was better to stay far away. Although it was a bit dishonorable, he had no choice. If they found out, they would definitely use him as a scapegoat, and he didn’t want to die like that for no reason.

After everything was over, he would apologize to Xiong Lei and the others and seek their forgiveness. If they didn’t forgive him, there was nothing he could do. An ape must look out for itself, or heaven and earth will destroy it.

However, that was provided they could survive. If they died, an apology would be out of the question.

”Stop shouting. I’m the one who had him bring you here.” Bai Xuan’s figure flew out from the dense forest and landed less than a hundred meters away from them, standing on the ground and appearing within their sight.

Looking at the massive blue eagle before them, coupled with that terrifying aura and cold energy, it was clear at a glance that he was extraordinary and definitely no ordinary character.

Xiong Lei glared viciously at Yuan Jin up in a tree. ”Yuan Jin, you dare betray us!”

”We misjudged you! Just wait until this is over, I’ll deal with you then. You just wait, you’re going to get what’s coming to you.”

”Exactly, I’ll definitely break your legs.”

”Yes, he must be made to pay the price for his actions!”

The Bear Clan commanders were furious. They had trusted Yuan Jin so much, yet this guy had actually betrayed them!

Yuan Jin scratched the back of his head awkwardly.

”Well, actually, the Bear King is already dead. The Eagle King is here to recruit you. I hope you’ll think twice before acting and behave yourselves. Don’t do anything stupid.”

”It’s not your place to lecture us!”

Xiong Lei let out a deafening roar to vent the anger in his heart. He never expected Yuan Jin to betray him. He was the bear who had saved Yuan Jin’s life, yet this guy had sold him out and even spoke so self-righteously.

”Fine, I’ll shut up.”

Yuan Jin sighed helplessly. It was true he was in the wrong first, but he had been forced into it. Even the Black-Scaled Bear King was killed just like that, so what about him?

Yuan Jin could only follow Bai Xuan’s orders. As the saying goes, a wise man submits to circumstances.

He hoped the final outcome would be good for both sides and that he would have a chance to apologize.

”Let’s get down to business,” Bai Xuan spoke up to stop their arguing.

”Did you really kill the Black Bear King?” Xiong Lei looked at Bai Xuan warily. After a moment of silence, he asked to confirm if the Black Bear King had truly been killed.

”Yes, he should be completely digested by now.”

Bai Xuan nodded slightly, speaking the truth without hiding anything.

”We had no grievances or enmity, why did you kill the Black Bear King?” Xiong Lei was shocked. The invincible Bear King had been killed just like that? It was somewhat unbelievable to him.

But after feeling the terrifying aura coming from Bai Xuan, the idea of the Black Bear King being eaten by him... wasn’t impossible.

”Isn’t it perfectly natural for a fierce beast to eat another fierce beast? If you’re going to ask that, then when you eat other beasts or attack other clans, isn’t that also without grievance or enmity?”

Bai Xuan grinned. If he had to give a reason, it was that the Black Bear King was unruly and useless to him, plus eating him provided a lot of evolution points. Under those two conditions, it would have been hard for the Black Bear King not to die.

”Sharp-tongued! Stop twisting concepts! Tell us honestly why you killed the Bear King! Aren’t you afraid of our retaliation?”

The Black Bear commander next to Xiong Lei couldn’t listen anymore and began shouting at Bai Xuan.

”Just you? You’re not qualified.” Bai Xuan’s eyes turned cold, and a terrifying chill erupted from his center. In an instant, the entire forest was frozen, and the temperature plummeted.

”This... just how strong is he?!”

”To release such a chill in an instant... and that aura on him, it can actually make me lose my will to fight...”

”I thought I was the only bear feeling this way, I didn’t expect you to feel it too. He’s too powerful, we’re no match for him at all.”

”Me too. Maybe we should just run.”

...

Standing at the very front, Xiong Lei could best appreciate the power of that aura. He clenched his teeth and tensed his muscles, trying to control his body’s instinctive trembling.

”What exactly do you want?”

Watching the scene before him, Yuan Jin grew anxious. His mind raced as he tried to think of a way to protect himself and the Great Strength Ape clan.

To avoid retaliation from the Black Bear clan, there were only three ways: one, rely on Bai Xuan to reach a reconciliation with the Black Bear clan; two, stand with the Black Bear clan, but that would surely offend Bai Xuan.

The final way was to go over and negotiate, facilitating a cooperation between the two sides. Though it wasn’t really a cooperation, as for the Black Bear clan, it was entirely disadvantageous.

Not only would they lose a vast amount of resources, but it also concerned the clan’s dignity!
