Peerless Bodyguard of a Stunning Beauty

Zhao Rong took a deep breath and looked at Wang Guihua. ”President Wang,” he said, ”this second issue... it might be a bit of a challenge to resolve, but it can be done.”

Wang Guihua looked embarrassed. ”As the president of the Women’s University, the board of directors has certain requirements for me. One of them is that all male students must cross-dress. We can’t have a single, conspicuously male student.” After a pause, she looked at Zhao Rong awkwardly. ”So, Zhao Rong... you and your assistant must cross-dress. Otherwise, this second problem can’t be solved, and I have to keep my position as president.”

Zhao Rong gritted his teeth. To complete the mission, he decided he and his assistant would have to make this sacrifice. ”Alright,” he agreed. ”Starting tomorrow, my assistant and I will cross-dress. We’ll wear wigs, heavy makeup, women’s clothes, and high heels. President Wang, as long as both of us cross-dress, that should fulfill your second requirement, right?”

Wang Guihua shook her head. ”But the board requires that *all* male students in the school must cross-dress.”

”I don’t understand,” Zhao Rong said. ”From what I’ve seen, so far it’s only my assistant and I who haven’t chosen to cross-dress at this university. All the other boys have. So if we do it too, won’t your requirement be met?”

Wang Guihua shook her head again, explaining earnestly, ”Zhao Rong, there’s something you don’t know. Besides the two of you, there’s one other maverick in our university who has also refused to cross-dress.”

When Zhao Rong heard there was another non-conformist man just like him and his assistant, he asked in surprise, ”President, I remember that when my assistant and I arrived, we were beaten and insulted by many students just for being ourselves. Our lives were even threatened. We were told that if we didn’t cross-dress and continued to stand out, we would definitely be killed by the Rainy Night Killer within three days. Hasn’t this other man faced the same threats?”

Wang Guihua recalled the maverick student. ”That student’s name is Su Jintao. When he first came to the Women’s University, he resolutely refused to cross-dress, insisting on living as a man. Although he was also beaten, insulted, and mocked, and despite the rumors that the Rainy Night Killer would kill him within three days, three years have passed. Su Jintao is still alive and well in our school, living as a man.”

Hearing this, Zhao Rong immediately sensed that Su Jintao was no ordinary person. Otherwise, he never would have survived the various threats that came with choosing such a non-conformist path at the Women’s University.

President Wang Guihua continued, ”So, for me to complete my second task, not only do you and your assistant have to cross-dress, but you also need to find Su Jintao and convince him to do the same. Only then can my task be completed.”

Zhao Rong nodded, accepting Wang Guihua’s second task. ”Don’t worry, President Wang. When I have time tomorrow, my assistant and I will find Su Jintao. We’ll get him to cross-dress just like us. That way, you’ll have completed the second objective the board gave you.”

President Wang Guihua nodded in relief, then moved on to her third task, her expression turning grim. ”Even though you’ve helped me with the first two tasks, this third one is truly difficult to accomplish.”

Seeing her worried look, Zhao Rong asked, ”President, what’s the third task? Tell me. I’m sure I can help you with it.”

Wang Guihua heaved a long sigh and said with great difficulty, ”Zhao Rong, the third task is... well, we have a rule at the university. When the current president steps down, they must first find a successor who agrees to take the position. Only then can the previous president officially resign.”

Zhao Rong immediately understood. He smiled and said, ”President Wang, are you worried you can’t find anyone to take over your job?”

Wang Guihua nodded. ”Zhao Rong, you’re incredibly clever. You guessed it exactly. I can’t find a replacement, so I’m stuck and can’t complete this third task.”

When Zhao Rong heard that the university had such a peculiar rule, he couldn’t help but ask, ”President Wang, I thought the Women’s University was a very prestigious institution. And as the president of a university, you must have a great deal of power. If the position is so great, why doesn’t anyone want to take your place?”

Wang Guihua said, troubled, ”Zhao Rong, you may not know this, but the position of President of the Women’s University is an extremely dangerous job.” With that, her eyes suddenly filled with tears. ”You don’t know, Zhao Rong. At least five or six presidents before me... they all died in mysterious accidents. So, if you want to be the president of this university, you must be prepared to sacrifice your life.”

When Zhao Rong heard that the presidency was a high-risk occupation, he said in confusion, ”When I first came here, the university seemed very peaceful on the surface. I never imagined it was hiding so many dangers. But there’s one thing I can’t figure out: who is causing these unexplained deaths of the presidents?”

Wang Guihua shook her head, just as perplexed. ”I can’t figure that out either. But there’s a strange pattern among the presidents who have died: the names of every single one of them contained the character for ’flower’.” She then listed the names for Zhao Rong. ”Before me, there were five successive presidents who died mysteriously. Their names were Ding Xianghua, Yang Yuhua, Bai Lanhua, Wang Xiaohua, and Zhang Jinhua. And the next one is me... Wang Guihua.”

Hearing this, Zhao Rong seemed to realize something. He slammed his hand on the table and stood up, volunteering, ”Wang Guihua, if the presidency is a high-risk job, then I’m willing to take over for you. I’ll even add ’flower’ to my name. I want to see for myself who these people lurking in the shadows are and why they’re killing the presidents of the Women’s University, especially those with ’flower’ in their names.”

When Wang Guihua saw Zhao Rong step forward, she said worriedly, ”Zhao Rong, I don’t think you should take this job. It’s really too dangerous.”

With a determined look in his eyes, Zhao Rong said, ”It’s precisely because it’s dangerous that I must take on this role. I can’t just stand by and watch you, a young woman, face danger and death alone.”

With that, Zhao Rong immediately took out a pen and paper and wrote a letter of self-recommendation right in front of her. After seeing the letter, Wang Guihua asked worriedly, ”Zhao Rong, are you truly mentally prepared to take over my position as president?”

Zhao Rong grinned. ”Absolutely.”

After finishing his conversation with President Wang Guihua, Zhao Rong walked toward the dormitory, his mind racing. I have three pressing issues to deal with, and I have to complete them one by one. First, I need to find the Rainy Night Killer and rescue the missing students. Second, my assistant and I have to cross-dress, and we need to find Su Jintao and convince him to do the same. Third, I need to take over from President Wang Guihua and become the new president of the Women’s University as soon as possible.

At one o’clock in the morning, after meeting Wang Guihua in a coffee shop near the school, Zhao Rong decided to find Su Jintao as soon as they finished their coffee.

Wang Guihua looked at him. ”Zhao Rong, we could always start these tasks tomorrow, you know.”

But Zhao Rong was impatient. ”No,” he said firmly. ”By tomorrow, I plan to have your second task completed.”

Wang Guihua knew that Zhao Rong was not only a man who abhorred evil but also one who took his responsibilities seriously. So, after they finished their coffee, she led him toward Su Jintao’s nearby dormitory.

Su Jintao was a junior in the e-commerce department. Because of his solitary nature, he didn’t get along well with others and lived alone in a dorm room. As they arrived at Su Jintao’s door, Zhao Rong immediately sensed a strange, unsettling atmosphere.

Just as Zhao Rong hesitated, Wang Guihua asked with concern, ”Zhao Rong, is it really a good idea for us to come looking for Su Jintao at this hour?”

But Zhao Rong felt the timing was perfect. ”If we came any other time, he might not be here. But if we come at night, when people are sleeping, he’s almost certain to be in his room. So, if we want to find him quickly and for sure, this is the best time to come.”

Hearing his reasoning, Wang Guihua had to agree. She knocked on Su Jintao’s dormitory door. ”Is anyone home? Room inspection!”

Suddenly, before she could finish speaking, a woman’s bloodcurdling scream erupted from inside the room.

Hearing the scream, Zhao Rong froze. Holy cow, don’t tell me... Could Su Jintao be the legendary Rainy Night Killer?
