Peerless Bodyguard of a Stunning Beauty

Hearing a knock on the door, Zhao Rong lazed in bed and said to his assistant, ”What are you waiting for? Hurry up and open the door.”

The assistant stretched sluggishly. ”I was running all over that grove with you last night,” he said. ”Plus, I got soaked to the bone in the rain. I think I’m coming down with a cold.”

Lying in bed, Zhao Rong stretched again. ”Considering I protected you last night, the least you can do is go open the door for them.”

The assistant suddenly pretended to be asleep. ”I’ve always had a habit of going back to sleep in the morning,” he mumbled, ”and I’m suddenly feeling so sleepy…” With that, he laid his head back on the pillow and started snoring.

When Zhao Rong saw his assistant was even better at putting on an act than he was, he helplessly shook his head, got out of bed, and walked toward the main door. By the time he opened it, however, he found that the person who had been knocking had already moved on to the next dorm.

Zhao Rong glanced at the group, cursed ”Weirdos” under his breath, then closed the door and went back to bed.

Just as he lay down, his assistant suddenly woke up. ”Brother Zhao Rong, who was that knocking?”

Looking at his feigning assistant, Zhao Rong teased him, ”It was a beauty knocking, but since you were pretending to be asleep, you didn’t open the door. Sorry, you missed out.”

The assistant said dismissively, ”If I wanted to see beauties, I’d just go up to Dorm 504 to see Miss Lili, Beauty Yu Lan, and Beauty Xuelian. Why would I care about some random girl at the door? That would just spoil the mood.”

Hearing the three women mentioned, Zhao Rong suddenly grew worried. ”We only just arrived at the women’s college last night, and we’ve already run into so many dangerous and bizarre things. I wonder if the three of them, in their dorm on the top floor, have had any similar experiences.”

The assistant, now also concerned for their safety, said, ”You know, Brother Zhao Rong, you’re right. We really should go up to Dorm 504 and check on them. We need to see if they’re safe.”

Zhao Rong nodded, then leaped out of bed to wash his face and brush his teeth. ”What are we waiting for then? Let’s wash up, go buy some breakfast, and hurry over to their dorm.”

Hearing that they were going downstairs to buy breakfast, the assistant, who had already swung his legs off the bed, immediately jumped back in. He feigned sleepiness again. ”Brother Zhao Rong, I’m feeling incredibly drowsy all of a sudden. Why don’t you go buy us breakfast after you wash up? Let me get a little more sleep…” With that, he lay back down and resumed his fake snoring.

Zhao Rong, who had already finished washing up, looked at his assistant lying in bed again and just shook his head. As he opened the door to go downstairs for breakfast, he muttered, ”Such a hopeless case…”

When Zhao Rong returned with steamed buns, soy milk, congee, fried dough sticks, oil cakes, and rice noodles, he found his assistant was already washed up and sitting in the room, waiting for him. The moment Zhao Rong opened the door, he saw his assistant sitting on a stool, looking absolutely ravenous.

Before Zhao Rong could say a word, the assistant started drooling. ”Brother Zhao Rong, you’re too good to me! How did you know I’ve loved oil cakes since I was a kid?” He reached out, trying to snatch the oil cakes from Zhao Rong’s hands to gobble them down.

Zhao Rong deftly dodged, hiding the cakes behind his back. ”Don’t get the wrong idea, Assistant,” he teased. ”This breakfast is for the three beauties upstairs, not for you.”

Hearing that Zhao Rong hadn’t bought him anything, the assistant grew a little indignant. ”Brother Zhao Rong, how could you choose beauties over your friend? You bought breakfast for them but not for me?”

Zhao Rong chuckled as he opened the door and started heading upstairs. ”You’re only just now realizing that about me? We’ve known each other for so long, you should have figured that out ages ago.”

Frustrated, the assistant had no choice but to trail after Zhao Rong up the stairs.

When they arrived at the women’s dorm, Zhao Rong knocked lightly. ”Beauties, time to wake up for breakfast!”

Although the three women were already awake, they were all still lazing in their beds with no intention of getting up. However, the moment they heard that Brother Zhao Rong himself had come to bring them breakfast, they all leaped out of bed.

Miss Lili executed a perfect kip-up from her bed and was the first to rush into the bathroom to start washing up and applying her makeup.

Xuelian, though she got up later, pulled a pre-prepared washbasin out from under her bed. She dabbed a dry towel in the water and began wiping her face. ”I have to put on my makeup. I absolutely cannot let Brother Zhao Rong see my bare face. I must present my most beautiful self to him.”

Although she was the last to rise, Xuelian used a high-tech product. She applied a facial mask, chuckled, and said, ”You two are way too slow. My method is much faster.” With that, she peeled the mask off.

When the mask came off, her face looked as if it had already been washed and made up, a perfect visage presented to the other two.

Miss Lili, who was still washing her face, saw that Xuelian had completed her entire morning routine with just a single mask. ”Xuelian,” she said in disbelief, ”where did you buy that mask? How is it so magical?”

Xuelian laughed. ”Don’t you know? Brother Zhao Rong is always buying things from that mobile app, Paradise Shopping Cart, right? Well, I downloaded it too and bought this ’Lazy Morning Mask’.”

Hearing the name, Yu Lan took it literally. ”I get it! With this mask, you don’t need to wash your face, brush your teeth, or put on makeup in the morning. You just put on the mask, and it does everything for you.”

Xuelian nodded. ”Sister Yu Lan, you’re clever for once!” She then handed a similar mask to Yu Lan. ”From now on, you won’t have to wash your face, brush your teeth, or put on makeup when you wake up. Just apply a Lazy Morning Mask, and the whole process will be done in a minute.”

Yu Lan excitedly took the mask and immediately put it on. ”For beauties like us,” she chuckled, ”this is exactly what we need!”

When Yu Lan peeled the mask off, she looked in the mirror and was stunned. It was just as Xuelian had said: not only was her face clean, but her makeup was also perfectly applied, looking as if it had been done by a top-tier makeup artist.

Just then, Miss Lili, the first to rush into the bathroom, came out. While still applying her makeup, she said to the other two, ”You two lazybones, why did you get up so late? And since you’re up, why aren’t you washing up and getting ready? Are you planning to meet Brother Zhao Rong with your plain, ugly faces?”

Before she could finish, she stopped, astonished. She saw that the two women before her had not only finished washing up but had also applied exquisite makeup.

Miss Lili stared at them, startled. ”What did you two just do? How did you wash up and put on your makeup so incredibly fast?”

Xuelian teased her playfully. ”That’s what you get for rushing into the bathroom ahead of us. We had no choice but to use some more advanced, high-tech methods.”

As they were talking, Zhao Rong knocked again. ”Ladies, are you up yet? If you don’t open the door soon, the breakfast I’m holding will get cold.”

Hearing Brother Zhao Rong’s magnetic voice, Xuelian immediately went to open the door. But just as she reached for the handle, Miss Lili grabbed her from behind. ”Sister Xuelian, can you please wait a moment? Let me finish my makeup first. If Brother Zhao Rong sees my bare face, I’m afraid he won’t like me anymore.” With that, Lili began applying her makeup with renewed speed.

Yu Lan teased her from the side, ”Sister Lili, you’re the most beautiful of us three. Are you really worried that Brother Zhao Rong would stop liking you over your looks?”

Lili replied while rushing with her makeup, ”Men are visual creatures, and women are auditory ones. In a man’s eyes, if a woman isn’t beautiful, nothing else about her matters, no matter how good she is.”

So, after waiting for three minutes for Lili to finish, Xuelian and Yu Lan finally opened the door.

When Zhao Rong walked in and saw the three dazzling beauties, he was overjoyed. ”Ladies, it’s only been one night, but it feels like we’ve been apart for ages.”

The assistant followed him in, his eyes darting around the room. ”I didn’t expect you all to be up so early,” he remarked.

Zhao Rong handed the breakfast to each of the women. ”Did you all sleep well last night? You didn’t run into anything scary, did you?”

The three of them shook their heads and said in unison, ”We all slept very well last night. Nothing scary happened at all.”

Hearing that they were safe, Zhao Rong breathed a sigh of relief. ”That’s good, as long as you’re safe. I was worried something might have happened to you.”

Standing beside him, the assistant, desperate for a bite of breakfast, hatched a plan. I have to praise Zhao Rong right now. I’ll make him feel proud in front of these three, and then maybe he’ll give me some of this food.

He immediately brought up the events of the previous night. ”Beauties, let me tell you an exciting story,” he began. ”Your Brother Zhao Rong here killed a whole lot of fierce beasts right here at the university last night!”

Meanwhile, just as the assistant was recounting Zhao Rong’s heroic exploits, several students from the Women’s University Animal Protection Committee were heading toward Dorm 504. They were searching for clues, hoping to capture the despicable person who had been indiscriminately killing animals in the school’s zoo.
