Peerless Bodyguard of a Stunning Beauty

When Zhao Rong saw the mysterious roster, he quickly crouched down and picked it up. Pointing at the names, he said to his assistant, ”Look, among the next batch of people to be cremated, our names are on the list—yours and mine.”

The assistant was taken aback. Staring at the names and photos, he said in disbelief, ”Is this a mistake? How could our names possibly be on here? Does this mean we’re both going to die in the next week and be sent to this crematorium?”

Just then, Wang Guihua, standing behind them, pointed to the signature at the bottom of the roster. ”Look,” she said, ”it’s the name of the person who delivers the dead…”

Zhao Rong leaned in for a closer look and saw that the person listed to deliver his and his assistant’s bodies was none other than the Rainy Night Killer. He sucked in a sharp breath. ”It seems this so-called Rainy Night Killer is planning to come after us.”

A chill ran down the assistant’s spine. ”Damn it! We just stumbled into this crematorium by chance, and now we’ve found another clue about the Rainy Night Killer…”

Zhao Rong nodded. ”Since the Rainy Night Killer is prepared to deliver our bodies here, it means he has some kind of indescribable connection to this place.”

”You’re right, Zhao Rong,” the assistant agreed. ”Instead of standing around guessing, we should search this crematorium thoroughly. We might find more information about him.”

At that moment, the three women came forward, nodding in agreement. ”Zhao Rong, if we split up and work together, we can definitely find information related to the Rainy Night Killer.”

Zhao Rong thought for a moment. ”Alright. The six of us will split into three groups of two. We’ll work together and protect each other while we search for clues.”

With that decided, the group of six began their search. Although the crematorium wasn’t large, it still took them nearly three hours to go through it all.

Three hours later, the six of them regrouped where they had started, and it turned out that each of the three groups had made a discovery. The assistant and Yu Lan had found a plastic bag full of gold teeth.

Zhao Rong looked at the bag, which held nearly a kilogram of them. After a moment of thought, he said, ”These must have been pried from the mouths of the dead by the Crematorium Director for profit. We absolutely cannot take this gold. We have to turn it over to the police station.”

The assistant and Yu Lan nodded. ”We already decided to hand them over to the police when we found them.”

Miss Lili and Xuelian, meanwhile, had found a pile of photos. They were all personal pictures of the Crematorium Director and his family. Zhao Rong took them and began to examine them. As he looked through the images, he noticed something strange. The director originally had a harmonious family with a wife and a child. The very last picture, however, was a group photo of the director with the corpses of his wife and child.

A shiver ran down Zhao Rong’s spine. ”Oh my God,” he said. ”Don’t tell me this director killed his own wife and child to rule the world, then turned them into zombies he could command?”

Miss Lili nodded. ”I think it’s possible. This Crematorium Director seems like a completely twisted, delusional psychopath.”

Xuelian speculated, ”He must have had a psychotic break. He probably hallucinated that his wife and child were some kind of enemy and brutally killed them.”

Just then, Wang Guihua, who had been paired with Zhao Rong, brought out what they had found: a list of staff who regularly transported bodies to the crematorium. Upon close inspection, Zhao Rong was shocked to find the nickname ”Rainy Night Killer” on the list. Next to the name was the killer’s ID, birth certificate, and a photo. What astonished Zhao Rong was that the photo of the Rainy Night Killer was identical to a photo of the Crematorium Director’s son. Furthermore, the director’s son was named Wang Rui, and the name written next to the Rainy Night Killer’s entry was also Wang Rui.

After comparing the evidence, Zhao Rong was certain. The Rainy Night Killer’s real name was Wang Rui, and he was the Crematorium Director’s son.

But Zhao Rong was puzzled. If the director had already killed his own son, how could he have become the Rainy Night Killer and committed serial murders at the women’s university? Just as Zhao Rong was struggling to understand, Wang Guihua suddenly exclaimed, ”I’ve got it! The Rainy Night Killer isn’t human at all. He’s a zombie—one that the Crematorium Director must have created!”

In an instant, it all clicked for Zhao Rong. He said to the others, ”I understand now. The Rainy Night Killer’s real name is Wang Rui, and he’s the son of this crematorium’s director. After the director killed his wife and son, he used a spell to turn them into zombies.”

Hearing this, the assistant stepped forward and asked, ”Zhao Rong, if what you’re saying is true and the Rainy Night Killer is a zombie, how can he be so intelligent?”

”I think some kind of genetic mutation or accident must have occurred when the director killed his son and turned him into a zombie,” Zhao Rong speculated. ”Otherwise, he wouldn’t have become the Rainy Night Killer after being reanimated.”

Miss Lili furrowed her brow. ”Zhao Rong, that just makes things even stranger,” she said, looking confused. ”Didn’t Principal Wang Guihua say the Rainy Night Killer used to be a student at the women’s university? She said he hated men, so he dropped out and became an assassin, stalking the campus to brutally murder any man he found there.”

Listening to Miss Lili, Zhao Rong offered a theory. ”I think his hatred for men probably stems from his father. His father didn’t just kill him; he also killed his own wife—the killer’s mother. That’s why he despises men so much. He wants to live in a university with only women, so he feels he has to kill every other man on campus.”

Xuelian asked, still puzzled, ”But if he hates men, why doesn’t he kill the ones at the university who are disguised as women? He spares them but kills the men who aren’t in disguise. What’s the purpose of that?”

”It might be one of his quirks,” Zhao Rong continued to speculate. ”What if, despite being a man, he enjoys dressing as a woman? If so, he might tolerate other men on campus who do the same.”

Xuelian nodded. ”Zhao Rong, you’re so right. That’s entirely possible…”

Just then, the assistant’s attention returned to the body on the floor. He looked at the director’s corpse and asked, ”Zhao Rong, why did this Crematorium Director just suddenly drop dead?”

Hearing this, Zhao Rong immediately crouched down and took a poison detection pen from his Magic Ring to check if the man had been poisoned. However, the test came back negative. The director had not died from poison.

Zhao Rong was baffled. If he wasn’t poisoned, then how did he die?

At that moment, Xuelian piped up, ”Zhao Rong, I wonder if a device exists that can determine the actual cause of death?”

At her suggestion, Zhao Rong promptly took out his phone and opened the Paradise Shopping Cart app. ”I’ll try searching for one now. Maybe I can find a detector like that.”

He typed ”Cause of Death Pen” into the search bar, and hundreds of thermometer-like devices appeared. Reading the product descriptions, he was surprised to find that they weren’t thermometers at all; they were instruments capable of determining a person’s cause of death.

Zhao Rong immediately purchased one, selecting the fastest delivery method: the Express Cannon. Sure enough, the Cause of Death Pen was delivered into his hands within thirty seconds.

While unwrapping the package, he glanced at the dead director and muttered, ”This guy’s death is too bizarre. I have to use this Cause of Death Pen to find out exactly what killed him.”

With that, he took out the pen and placed it in the deceased’s mouth. The device, being an AI product, had a voice prompt function. When Zhao Rong and his group heard the announcement, all six of them were left speechless and utterly astonished.

”No way!” Zhao Rong exclaimed in disbelief. ”Is it even possible to die like that?”

The assistant seemed both horrified and intrigued. ”I’ve never heard of a cause of death like this before…”

Wang Guihua analyzed the situation from a scientific perspective. ”This is definitely not something an ordinary person could have done.”

”Wait,” Miss Lili said, looking at the others. ”During the voice prompt, one word was muffled. I think you all missed it.”

”Zhao Rong, you should run the test again,” Yu Lan urged.

Xuelian agreed. ”Yes, Zhao Rong. Let’s listen to the voice prompt one more time.”

Agreeing, Zhao Rong ran the test again, and the voice prompt began…
