Reborn As Super Heiress

Chapter 1681: Chapter 1675: Grandmother

August 8th, as dawn broke with the first glimmer of light, Huo Sining was still asleep when the sound of knocking woke her up.

Huo Sining opened her eyes, her gaze still a bit confused. Looking around at the unfamiliar surroundings, she felt an illusion of being lost for a moment. It took her a few seconds to remember that today was her wedding day, and she was staying in the old courtyard house left to her by her grandmother.

Three years since her rebirth, today she was going to get married.

”Ningning, are you up yet?”

Outside, Huang Hanyun and Su Qingqing were knocking again. Huo Sining hurriedly got up from bed, and as she was about to respond, she noticed two dark shadows on the rosewood furniture opposite her.

Huo Sining was startled, her body stiffening suddenly.

The two figures slowly stepped out of the shadows. Upon seeing their faces clearly, Huo Sining was instantly surprised and covered her mouth.

”Congratulations, girl...”

On that side, Mr. Liang spoke in a hoarse voice. Although his voice was very rough, a fleeting hint of excitement and reluctance flashed in his eyes.

Huo Sining never expected that her father would actually come. Even though he couldn’t accompany her down the aisle, this was already enough.

Huo Sining’s gaze fell from Mr. Liang’s face to the person beside him, whose body was completely covered, cloaked, and veiled in black, revealing only a pair of eyes.

Those eyes stared at her, filled with love and compassion, with a misty sheen that couldn’t be hidden.

From those eyes and the figure, Huo Sining could roughly tell that it should be a woman, but she couldn’t discern anything else.

Curious about the woman’s identity, Huo Sining wanted to ask directly but hesitated, only casting an inquiring look at Mr. Liang, seemingly hoping for an explanation from him.

Mr. Liang acted as if he hadn’t seen it, not intending to address it at all.

After looking at Huo Sining for a long time, the woman suddenly pulled out a box from behind, opened it, and tremblingly took out a set of jewelry, handing it slowly to Huo Sining.

Huo Sining was somewhat at a loss. Seeing her reluctance to take it, Mr. Liang hurriedly explained, ”This is your dowry; keep it safe. We can’t attend your wedding. If you ever encounter any trouble, don’t wrong yourself. If absolutely necessary, text me, and I’ll come to take you back, no matter the distance.”

Upon hearing ”take you back,” Huo Sining felt odd, but she didn’t think much of it and obediently reached out to receive the box.

Seeing Huo Sining accept the jewelry, the woman was delighted, her eyes and brows brimming with unconcealed joy. She seemed to want to touch Huo Sining’s cheek but suddenly recalled something and swiftly retracted her hand.

Outside, Huang Hanyun seemed to be chatting with someone. After a few exchanges, she started knocking again.

Mr. Liang and the woman exchanged a glance, then looked up at Huo Sining: ”We should go. Take care of yourself.”

With that, they pushed open the window leading to the backyard, preparing to jump out.

However, in that instant, a thought flashed through Huo Sining’s mind, startling her. She urgently asked, ”Wait, are you... Grandma?”

The woman, about to leap out with Mr. Liang, froze upon hearing Huo Sining’s words, nearly losing her balance but quickly reaching out to steady herself on the windowsill.

She slowly turned back, her gaze in shock as she looked at Huo Sining. After a moment, she sighed deeply, gently removed her black veil.

A familiar yet strange face appeared—pointed ears, blue eyes, and protruding gills. The person had transformed into Jiaoren (Merfolk), but her features were still distinctly recognizable.

Seeing this face, Huo Sining understood why Old Mr. Zhong had asked her if she knew Huang Chengxiang back when she was with the Zhong family.

Because her appearance was exceedingly similar to this woman’s, had she not guessed her identity, Huo Sining might have mistaken her for her twin sister.

But this was her grandmother, a woman over sixty years old.

Huo Sining faintly understood why her grandmother and father had faked their deaths. After their transformation, not only did their physical forms greatly differ from humans, but even their aging slowed down.

A fifty-year-old granny with the appearance akin to a teenager—if revealed, it would undoubtedly invite trouble.

Huo Sining didn’t know how her grandmother managed to conceal these changes over the years, perhaps through makeup techniques deliberately aging her looks, but that wasn’t a long-term solution. Living with family constantly would inevitably expose the truth.

This explained why, upon discovering Liang Pengzhi’s affair, Huang Chengxiang decisively divorced him and left the Liang Family to live independently rather than returning to the Huang Family.

Carrying such a significant secret, how could she return to the Huang Family to mingle with ordinary people? To hide her unspeakable secret, she chose solitude, staying away from the crowd.

This also explained why even the Huang Family was unaware of the deception when she feigned illness and death, believing she truly passed away, without suspecting she was alive.

With shock and disbelief written all over her face, Huo Sining, piecing together the absurdity of it all, realized how bizarre the entirety was.

No wonder years after her grandmother’s ’death,’ Old Mr. Zhong saw a living Huang Chengxiang in Qingxu Taoist Temple, a person who entrusted his granddaughter to him.

No wonder when she met her lunatic grandfather from the Jiang Family at Jiang Xiaoqin’s house, the old man tugged at her, mumbling ”resemblance” and insinuating she was not ’her’ until later clarifying.

Perhaps Master Jiang mistook her for her grandmother, because Huang Chengxiang wasn’t dead—alive and maintaining the appearance of someone in her twenties—so people mistakenly identified her.

Staring at that face, Huo Sining was utterly dumbfounded, rooted to the spot, unable to move or utter a single word for a long while.

She didn’t even know when the two left, until Huang Hanyun and Su Qingqing entered with a key due to her silence, finding her standing there. They curiously approached, gently shaking her, asking what was wrong before she snapped back to reality.
