Reborn As Super Heiress

Chapter 1680: Chapter 1674: Striking It Rich

Due to Hu Jinhua’s strong endorsement, the direction of public opinion began to change dramatically.

Many historians came forward to support Huo Sining, and many history enthusiasts and collectors also spoke up for her, revealing Huo Sining’s achievements in the collection world over the past few years one by one.

After learning about Huo Sining’s series of accomplishments, no one dared to question her anymore because this young woman was simply too formidable.

She could identify the authenticity of antiques with her eyes closed; just a touch allowed her to determine the dynasty an antique belonged to. She could pick out counterfeits hidden amongst genuine items in under three minutes. This skill, this keen eyesight — who else could achieve this?

Some university professors even recommended this history program to their students, claiming they had recently accepted several graduate students whose upcoming research topics would involve analyzing this program and writing papers that express their viewpoints on a selected Chapter.

No matter what, the ”History of China” program truly became a hit.

Throughout one morning, the TV station received many calls from viewers inquiring about when the Shang Zhou Chapter that aired last night would be rebroadcast.

By the afternoon, when the program was rebroadcast, an even more astonishing situation occurred.

CCTV’s Channel 10 witnessed its first ever occurrence where the rebroadcast of a program had higher ratings than its initial airing. The afternoon rebroadcast of the ”History of China: Shang Zhou Chapter” achieved a rating exceeding 2 percent. This terrifying number not only stunned the staff at Channel 10, but also caught the attention of several other vice-presidents and presidents at CCTV.

It’s important to know that rerun programs accumulate data on top of the existing viewer base.

Programs aired during prime time only achieve 1.54 percent at most. Now, with a rerun, scheduled during daytime on a weekday afternoon, actually reached a 2 percent rating. This data can’t just be described as a mere hit.

Previously, it was impossible to sell ad slots for the ”History of China” program. The production team had to lower themselves to beg for advertising sponsorship, but no one was interested.

However, after the ratings were released, those brands were like cats that smelled fish, humbly returning to beg, pulling all kinds of strings just to squeeze in. They hoped to place their ads in the early parts or the middle of the ”History of China” program.

”Old He, this time you really have something to boast about!”

The several presidents, seeing this data, were green with envy, but although they thought this way, they still chose to compliment He Guolin out of politeness.

For an explainer-type program, the investment was no more than tens of millions, yet it managed to outshine variety shows from other channels, the latter of which required expenditures of several tens of millions or even hundreds of millions. When compared to Channel 10’s explanation-type program, the others were utterly defeated.

Given these ratings, the upcoming ratings for ”History of China” will only go higher, reaching a 4 percent or even as high as 5 percent might not be a mere fantasy.

He Guolin truly felt vindicated this time; his whole being radiated with unconcealable joy.

There’s no helping it. Channel 10 is an educational channel that, despite being backed by the large umbrella of CCTV, had very little presence in the television station because of ratings problems. The advertisement prices for Channel 10 were very low, not generating enough revenue and requiring subsidies from the station, so it was often bullied by other channels.

This is why when Huo Sining first came to record a program at the station, her time slot was taken due to being late because Channel 10’s status in the station was low and any channel dared to step on it.

But this time is different; with the release of the ”History of China” program, just the advertisement fees for the program could make Channel 10 a fortune. Those advertisers were desperate to get in, begging and offering outrageous prices, all for just a few seconds of ad time.

He Guolin had never experienced anything like this before. Since he assumed the position of station head, he had only been ridiculed, taken lightly. This time he could finally hold his head up high.

The only thing that made He Guolin feel a little pain was selling the naming rights to the Crown Jade Beauty Company to Huo Sining for fifty million yuan.

With the program’s current level of popularity, if the naming rights were sold now, the price would probably double. Losing out on fifty million yuan was indeed painful for He Guolin.

But when he thought about it again, he realized that if it weren’t for Huo Sining rewriting the program as it is now, with the original scripts proposed by the writers, the ratings would have been mediocre at best and never this explosive. With this thought, He Guolin came to terms with the situation again.

With such high ratings, both the reputation of the program and the profits are soaring; Channel 10 has indeed struck gold.

Moreover, Huo Sining had even provided numerous antiques for the program free of charge. She never even mentioned having the production team compensate for the broken Primitive Celadon piece.

Huo Sining acted with great integrity and generosity; of course, he couldn’t repay her goodness with ingratitude or betray her now.

Also, considering Ke Zhenyue’s previous downfall as a lesson, He Guolin absolutely would not repeat Ke Zhenyue’s mistakes. With Huo Sining’s status, he wouldn’t even think of offending her.

He Guolin wasn’t foolish; he’d held the position of station head for several years and knew how to read the room, understanding who could be provoked and who couldn’t, much clearer than Ke Zhenyue.

Thinking about how the ratings for that evening’s episode were going to soar, He Guolin couldn’t help but feel hot-eyed, inwardly looking down on Ke Zhenyue as an idiot.

If, on Huo Sining’s first day of recording, Ke Zhenyue hadn’t immediately targeted her; if he hadn’t been so short-sighted, and for a small rebate given Huo Sining a hard time by demanding changes in the host and guests; if later he hadn’t employed low means to pressure the production team via the Yu Province Museum, he might have had a chance to regain the director’s role.

Given the current ratings of ”History of China,” He Guolin was almost certain that within this period, there would be no similar programs on domestic television able to surpass it.

This program has redefined the format of historical explainer programs. To call it stunning is no exaggeration; it could definitely realize a mythical ratings miracle.

As the director able to create such a classic program as ”History of China,” one’s value would undoubtedly multiply, quickly becoming famous in the industry. With this as part of their resume, wherever they go in the future, they will become admired and revered.

But Ke Zhenyue foolishly let this director position slip away. For the sake of sesame seeds, he lost a watermelon, and in the process offended someone he couldn’t afford to offend. He Guolin truly didn’t know what words could describe Ke Zhenyue.
