Reborn As Super Heiress

Chapter 1658: Chapter 1642: Offending Others Without Knowing It

Ke Zhenyue couldn’t believe his ears, thinking he had misheard, but the person on the other end of the line didn’t mind repeating it and said heavily again:

”Zhenyue, you’ve been at the station for so many years, a senior here. I thought you handled things steadily and believed you could take on the role of chief director for the new program, so I assigned you there. But why can’t you understand the situation? Alright, I won’t say more. You should come back; Xiao Ma has already gone over. Hand over the work to him, and you don’t need to worry about the rest.”

Ke Zhenyue’s mind instantly went blank. He couldn’t quite understand what was going on, instinctively shouting, ”No, Director, how can I just...”

But before he could finish, the director on the other end had already hung up. Holding his phone, Ke Zhenyue stood there in a daze, completely clueless about what had just happened.

Producer Li came over and took his phone, and at that moment, the door to the studio was pushed open. A man in his thirties with glasses and a small ponytail on top of his head walked in.

The man glanced around the studio and then noticed Ke Zhenyue. He quickly walked over to him with a grin and said, ”Brother Zhen, the director asked me to come for the handover, so...”

The newcomer was precisely the Xiao Ma mentioned by the director over the phone. He had been in Channel Ten for seven or eight years, always working as a producer and assistant director. Although he wasn’t as experienced as Ke Zhenyue, his smooth social skills and talent allowed him to gradually stand out in recent years, gaining the leadership’s attention.

Ke Zhenyue had always looked down on this young man. On one hand, because artists tend to have a certain aloofness and pride. On the other hand, Ke Zhenyue was a veteran in Channel Ten, and there was a hierarchy to be respected. Xiao Ma, being a junior, meant there was no reason for Ke Zhenyue to lower himself to butter up a junior.

Ke Zhenyue had always felt that these young people should be the ones to cater to the veteran staff for career advancement. He never expected that one day this junior would leapfrog over him, receiving leadership’s favor and becoming a director, snatching away the new program he worked so hard to get.

Seeing Xiao Ma’s cheerful expression at this moment was particularly glaring and ironic to Ke Zhenyue. Especially when Xiao Ma called him Brother Zhen, it felt like fireworks going off in his ears, always thinking Xiao Ma was mocking and ridiculing him. To Ke Zhenyue, even Xiao Ma’s smile seemed to be showing off, full of self-satisfaction.

In fact, Xiao Ma had no such intentions. He was also stunned when he received the station’s notice, but since it was a direct order from the director, he couldn’t disobey.

Especially when the director emphasized on the phone to be humble and courteous to the new program’s host, to never offend them, and to meet any of their requests as much as possible.

Xiao Ma didn’t know who that guest was, but anyone who warranted such importance and cautiousness from the director surely wasn’t to be trifled with. So he thought he would just treat that host like royalty once he took over the program.

As for Ke Zhenyue, Xiao Ma certainly respected him too but didn’t think much further. After all, it’s the station’s arrangement, and he didn’t intentionally steal someone else’s program.

On the way, Xiao Ma analyzed and speculated, thinking the station’s decision to have him temporarily take over might be because Ke Zhenyue had something come up and had to drop the new program, giving him this chance.

Therefore, Xiao Ma was actually ecstatic, feeling like he’d hit the jackpot. Upon reaching the studio and seeing Ke Zhenyue, he couldn’t contain his joy.

However, at this time, Xiao Ma didn’t realize yet that what was honey to one was arsenic to another. He was happy about becoming the chief director of the new program, feeling he’d won the lottery, while opposite him, Ke Zhenyue’s heart was bleeding.

Ke Zhenyue was burning with anger but, with so many people watching in the studio, had to maintain his dignity and couldn’t possibly lose his temper in such a place.

So, after clenching his fists and suppressing his surging emotions, he forced a smile, nodding and saying, ”Then I’ll be going now. The program is yours.”

With that, Ke Zhenyue didn’t even glance at Xiao Ma, he walked straight out of the studio.

Xiao Ma was momentarily stunned and only reacted when Ke Zhenyue reached the door, hurriedly shouting, ”No, Brother Zhen, you haven’t handed over the tasks yet. I don’t know anything...”

Ke Zhenyue didn’t slow his pace, directly opened the door, and left without even turning his head.

Xiao Ma was dumbfounded, slightly frustrated, and at a loss, not knowing what was going on, but vaguely realizing something was off.

Producer Li, who had been observing the situation, sighed as he saw Xiao Ma left in the studio and walked over, saying:

”Xiao Ma, the director assigned you to be the chief director, right? Don’t ask Director Ke about the handover. I’ll let an assistant explain it to you. The script for the first episode is ready. Take a look; you should be able to take over quickly.”

Xiao Ma nodded gratefully, but his gaze remained on the closed studio door. ”Sister Li, what exactly is going on? How could Director Ke leave without handing over the tasks? That’s too irresponsible, isn’t it?”

Producer Li chuckled, ”Just mind your own business. Don’t worry about the rest. The station places great importance on this program, and since you’re taking over at the last minute, make sure not to mess it up. If leadership gets angry and holds you responsible, we won’t be able to cover for you.”

Hearing this, Xiao Ma grinned, revealing two tiger-shaped teeth: ”Don’t worry, I’ve led several programs over the years. I’m familiar with all the procedures, and nothing will go wrong.”

Producer Li nodded, ”I’m not worried about your professional skills. You were appointed by the station, and the leadership wouldn’t have appointed you as director if you weren’t up to it. But—”

Producer Li paused, her eyes showing some complexity.

Xiao Ma instinctively asked, ”But what?”

Producer Li’s eyes darkened, and she said in a deep voice, ”But keep your personal thoughts to a minimum outside of work. Be mindful of how you treat others. Don’t be like some people who offend others without even realizing it.”
