Reborn As Super Heiress

Chapter 1678: Chapter 1672: Sky-High Ratings

Xiao Ma walked in absentmindedly, sitting down with a dazed look on his face, as if he’d lost his soul.

Producer Li felt like he was doused with a bucket of cold water: ”Could it be that it’s not even 0.5?”

This is impossible; although she told Director He 0.5, that was her most conservative estimate. She believed that no matter how the show performed, it couldn’t flop this badly.

Seeing Xiao Ma’s expression, He Guolin’s face turned even graver: ”The station’s policy is that if it doesn’t even reach 0.5, the show will be moved to another time slot, even if it’s not canceled. You all know this policy better than I do; it’s not my rule, it’s a guideline for everyone.”

He Guolin can’t be blamed for this; as the director, he has to look at the data. Although Channel Ten is not as competitive as other networks, it is still under the umbrella of the larger CCTV. Ratings can’t be too low; even recruitment shows past nine have ratings over 0.5. If ”History of China” doesn’t reach this number, he would have no choice but to cut it painfully.

Upon hearing this, the other staff members became anxious: ”Don’t let it get canceled, Brother Ma, what’s the actual rating? Does it reach 0.5?”

It was then that Xiao Ma seemed to come back to his senses. The dazed and lost expression suddenly disappeared, and he began to laugh while sitting in his chair, his shoulders shaking at first, then breaking into hearty laughter, his face glowing brightly:

”Initial ratings data has been compiled, reaching 1.42%, with a market share of over 3%!”

The other people were stunned by this number, each displaying an incredulous look: ”What did you say?”

”I said our show is a hit!”

Xiao Ma completely shed the heaviness on his face, becoming rather proud.

”1.42%?”

”The first episode, and it’s only halfway through? That’s so impressive!”

”It really is a hit, amazing! Haha, we’ve secured our spot in prime time now!”

Producer Li also caught on, reaching out to push Xiao Ma playfully, laughing and scolding:

”You rascal, you came in here acting all gloomy just to trick us, huh? You’re too much!”

Even He Guolin was fooled by Xiao Ma’s acting: ”I was dumb too, seeing this guy come in so quietly, I really thought the ratings were terrible and our data got us in trouble!”

While saying this, He Guolin’s eyes were full of laughter.

Everyone was startled by Xiao Ma’s prank, and after learning the real ratings, they all breathed a sigh of relief.

Back in the office, not sure who started it, the staff began to cheer, directly lifting Director Xiao Ma and Producer Li into the air, which made Producer Li scream nonstop, and Xiao Ma yelled out as well.

Amidst the excitement, He Guolin, who was more considerate, chimed in to remind them:

”Xiao Li, you guys are celebrating, but someone should call and share this good news with Miss Huo. A significant part of the show’s success is due to her efforts.”

Upon hearing this, Xiao Ma and Producer Li returned to reality: ”Yes, yes, quickly call Miss Huo!”

Huo Sining received a call from Director Xiao Ma while watching the show. Xiao Ma was very excited on the other end, his voice trembling: ”Miss Huo, the ratings report is out!”

Huo Sining was taken aback: ”Isn’t the show not even finished yet? How are the ratings out already?”

Xiao Ma explained: ”We can calculate ratings at this time too, but it’s just real-time data, an initial ratings index. The detailed ratings will be available tomorrow, but there won’t be much difference between the two data points.”

Huo Sining asked: ”What’s the current rating?”

Xiao Ma laughed: ”The current rating is 1.42% and still rising! I estimate it might reach 1.5% once the first episode airs completely.”

Not having much sense of the numbers, Huo Sining couldn’t help but ask curiously: ”Is that a good rating?”

”Of course, it’s great!”

Xiao Ma laughed: ”Let me explain. Many prime-time shows aired by other TV stations don’t even have ratings this high. Our ratings are enough to sweep across various networks. Plus, ours is just a commentary show on the education channel, making this a sure hit!”

Without fully understanding TV ratings, Huo Sining was naturally hopeful that the show she hosted would perform well, especially since she held the naming rights. Now, hearing that the show was a hit, she was delighted.

”That’s really great.”

”It’s more than just great. A rating of 1.5 in the first episode... Speaking of our channel’s past programs, it might not be number one, but it certainly ranks in the top three. Compared to other programs across stations, it’s definitely in the top twenty or even fifteen. This is incredibly impressive! Congratulations, Miss Huo!”

Xiao Ma wasn’t at all modest now, proudly stating his analysis, clearly overjoyed by the first episode’s ratings.

Huo Sining chuckled: ”Why congratulate me? I couldn’t have done this show alone! It’s a product of everyone’s hard work. Without the teamwork and overtime efforts of the whole crew, this result wouldn’t have been possible. The team’s contribution can’t be overlooked.”

”Absolutely, I agree.” Acknowledging his slip, Xiao Ma sheepishly rubbed the back of his head and glanced bashfully at his colleagues.

Laughing, Huo Sining added: ”Director Ma, congratulating me is secondary. What you should do now is find Director He and thank him for his excellent leadership. Suggest he treats everyone to a nice meal for such high ratings.”

Upon hearing this, Xiao Ma burst out laughing, immediately turning on the speaker and cheerfully telling Huo Sining on the phone: ”Miss Huo, you should be the one to tell Director He.”

Not being from the TV station and having no conflict of interest with He Guolin, Huo Sining felt uninhibited. Hearing Xiao Ma’s words, she realized Director He was nearby and couldn’t help but smile, asking:

”Director He, with such good ratings, aren’t you going to treat everyone to a drink tonight?”
