Reborn As Super Heiress

Chapter 647: Chapter 644: Liu Family Banquet

On July 10, Huo Sining finished her last exam of the second half of her freshman year, took a nap in the afternoon, and was lazily sitting in the courtyard drinking afternoon tea when suddenly she heard the gate bell being pressed.

Huo Sining was startled and hastily stood up to open the door.

Outside stood a man in his fifties who, upon seeing Huo Sining open the door, looked at her respectfully and asked, ”Are you Miss Huo Sining, Huo Miss?”

Huo Sining did not recognize the man, felt odd, and could only ask, ”I am Huo Sining. May I ask who you are?”

Upon hearing this, the man immediately breathed a sigh of relief, reached into his chest and pulled out a gold-embossed invitation, respectfully handing it to Huo Sining:

”Miss Huo, good day. I am here on behalf of my master to deliver this invitation. This weekend is my master’s birthday, and he would like to invite you to grace the dinner banquet.”

”Your master?”

Upon hearing this, Huo Sining could not help but frown and did not take the invitation, just staring blankly at the man.

”I’m sorry, but may I ask who your master is? I should not know him, so why would he invite me?”

The man seemed to have anticipated Huo Sining’s reaction and smiled, saying, ”My master’s surname is Liu. You and Miss Huo crossed paths once in Ruili. He said he witnessed Miss Huo’s elegance at the Ruili gambling on stones and thus entrusted me to personally deliver this invitation to Miss Huo, sincerely inviting you to attend the dinner banquet.”

A surname Liu, and a past encounter in Ruili gambling on stones—could it be that old rascal Liu Chongren?

Huo Sining took the invitation, opened it to look, and sure enough, she saw the name Liu Chongren inside.

Huo Sining’s brow immediately tightened. The last time at the Ruili gambling scene, she had caused Liu Yuxuan to suffer quite a loss. Now Liu Chongren was eagerly sending her an invitation. What was this about? A Banquet of Hongmen?

”Besides me, who else has been invited? I’m truly sorry, but I’m a bit timid and haven’t experienced many grand occasions. If it’s a large dinner party without familiar faces, I really wouldn’t have the courage to go,” Huo Sining said as she closed the invitation, smiled awkwardly, and asked in a coy manner.

”Miss Huo, please rest assured, aside from inviting you, our master has also invited quite a few domestic jade and jewelry traders. I believe many of them are people Miss Huo knows,” the man with the look of an old butler explained.

Huo Sining nodded. To be able to invite so many people to a dinner banquet with such generosity, the host must be someone with notable fame and strength. In China, apart from the Gambling King Liu Chongren, it would be hard to find another host.

Although Huo Sining had grievances with Liu Chongren, since it was not just her being invited, there shouldn’t be any problems.

Even if there were no good banquets, being careful would mean no problems, and if she were to refuse, people might construe it as her being narrow-minded and intolerant.

”Alright, I understand. I will definitely be there,” Huo Sining said as she took the invitation.

The old butler bowed to Huo Sining and then left; Huo Sining walked toward the courtyard.

Looking at the gilded invitation in her hand, she couldn’t fathom what Master Qin was planning.

Could it be because Liu Yuxuan lost to her at Ruili, so this Liu Chongren wanted to settle scores at his birthday banquet?

”Ningning, did you receive the invitation?” Less than an hour later, Huo Sining received a call from Bai Yishan.

”You received it too?” Huo Sining was taken aback, thinking about what the invitation bearer had said, she became even more puzzled. Why had even Jade Beauty received an invitation—what was Liu Chongren trying to do?

”Not just me, Su Jinyuan received one too. What is Liu Chongren up to, throwing such a lavish banquet when he’s only seventy-two, not even eighty? And he’s invited so many people!”

At this, Bai Yishan seemed to have a thought, ”You’ve made an enemy out of Liu Yuxuan, don’t you think he might have set a trap for you, arranging a sort of Banquet of Hongmen specifically for you? Liu Yuxuan doesn’t strike me as a person generous of spirit. She’s been thwarted by you twice now, ’trying to steal a chicken only to end up losing the rice.’ That woman must long to tear you to pieces and feed you to the sharks in the sea!”

Huo Sining almost didn’t know whether to laugh or cry upon hearing this, ”Aren’t you being a bit dramatic? Fair is fair in gambling. Even if Liu Chongren resents me, he wouldn’t stoop so low as to do something so disgraceful, right?”

Bai Yishan warned, ”You absolutely can’t underestimate those from wealthy families; none of them are simple. The dirty deeds they’re capable of, are things you can’t even imagine. It’s just that they’re well-concealed. If you really dug into it, it would shock you beyond belief.”

Huo Sining actually profoundly agreed with Bai Yishan’s words. Prestigious families seemed glamorous on the surface, but the reality hidden beneath was one of open warfare. Hadn’t she herself been killed by that woman Wu Jingyi in her previous life?

However, even so, Huo Sining wouldn’t back down just because of the Liu Family.

”Since they’ve sent the invitation to my house, not going would be an insult to the Liu Family’s face. If I don’t go, they might think I’m a coward, afraid of trouble. Besides, I really want to see for myself what kind of tricks Gambling King Qin has up his sleeve this time around, a man known for his adage ’nine out of ten gamblers come out ahead’!”

Liu Chongren had made countless friends over the years, and with his truly exquisite gambling skills, the majority of guests invited to the Liu Family’s banquet were eager to give face to the Gambling King, each arriving in Guangcheng at the agreed time.

Huo Sining arrived in Guangcheng with Bai Yishan and Su Jinyuan. After disembarking the plane, they freshened up in the hotel, and then hastened to fill up their stomachs with some food.

At dinner parties, it was mostly about drinking, and the food laid out on the table was rarely touched, as doing so would seem impolite.

Thus, to avoid going hungry, it was necessary for Huo Sining and her two companions to fill their bellies beforehand.

Then came makeup. Huo Sining seldom wore makeup, but the formality of this evening’s banquet required her to dress up more elegantly and formally.

Huo Sining didn’t like overly fancy clothes or jewelry; she preferred simplicity and elegance. However, her attire couldn’t be so humble as to become a laughingstock.

In this respect, Bai Yishan was clearly more professional. Bai Yishan had a background in art and design, which made her artistic judgment naturally superior to Huo Sining’s. Additionally, having studied in France for many years, her grasp of fashion was undoubtedly more professional than Huo Sining’s.

Once they were dressed, Bai Yishan personally applied a simple yet exquisite makeup look for Huo Sining. Her entire face suddenly stood out, looking very beautiful. Even the particularly discerning Bai Yishan nodded in satisfaction at Huo Sining’s final appearance.
