Reborn As Super Heiress

Chapter 640: Chapter 637 Buy a Dog

Huo Sining felt disappointed because, along the way, she had seen quite a few dogs, the vast majority of which were rural Chinese dogs.

The so-called rural Chinese dogs are what we refer to as ordinary mutts.

Traditional purebred rural dogs are actually quite intelligent breeds; well-trained ones can even help hunters with hunting.

Unfortunately, due to the severe interbreeding in the countryside, purebred rural dogs have long since disappeared. The interbred mutts that exist today generally have lower intelligence and are just kept in the countryside to alert families to strangers by barking a few times.

Of course, Huo Sining didn’t necessarily require a purebred dog. Most dogs in the dog market nowadays are mixed breeds. To find a purebred dog, one would have to be willing to spend a lot of effort and money, otherwise, it would be virtually impossible.

Besides, she didn’t necessarily have to insist on a purebred dog because she had Azure Pearl with her. There was no need to worry about the issue of lineage.

For Huo Sining, as long as the dog wasn’t excessively interbred and the maternal lineage was decent enough to maintain the basic advantages of the breed, a mixed breed could be a good choice.

Like Huo Sining, Su Qingqing also preferred large dogs, especially ones like Heitan. However, Heitan was something Huo Sining would not consider giving to Su Qingqing. But creating a dog similar to Heitan for Su Qingqing was not a difficult task for Huo Sining.

She had looked all the way here, her eyes scanning over those dogs with patchy fur and various forms. She ignored the fluffy and cute little dogs, setting her sights on the large breeds.

Her targets were the large breeds like the German Shepherds, Caucasians, Rottweilers, and Tibetan Mastiffs.

Seeing that Huo Sining was still looking around, a middle-aged vendor quickly bent down to pick up a Rottweiler puppy from the cage and asked with a smile,

”Young lady, why don’t you buy a Rottweiler? Just look at this bone structure, this coat, top-notch genes, it’s really smart!”

”Uncle, does this dog bite?” Huo Sining glanced at the foolish Rottweiler puppy and asked casually.

Seeing that Huo Sining was a young lady, the vendor thought she surely wanted a gentle puppy and immediately patted his chest, assuring her, ”My dog is very docile, it will bark, but it won’t bite people, don’t worry!”

Huo Sining couldn’t help but smile wryly and shook her head slightly.

Su Qingqing, like her, liked Heitan. The reason she liked it was because of Heitan’s intelligence. What use would a dog be if it only grew in size but not in smarts and, besides eating, sleeping, and being cute, couldn’t do anything else? Su Qingqing definitely wouldn’t like it.

Huo Sining could also guess why Su Qingqing liked Heitan. Although Heitan was a Tibetan Mastiff, it was able to control its natural instincts.

That was because when Huo Sining first saved Heitan, she modified its lineage, causing mutations in its dog treasure, and ever since, the dog had grown smarter and smarter, like a child whose intelligence was unfolding.

Now, the dog even vaguely possessed the intelligence of a ten-year-old child—not only Huo Sining but even Yan Feng was surprised.

Of course, this could only be considered an accident. Huo Sining thought the reason Heitan turned out this way was partly because of the Spirit of Azure Pearl and partly because of the mutation of the dog treasure.

Such a successful case was not replicable, as it was completely due to a series of coincidences. Huo Sining couldn’t possibly replicate the technique and create another dog as smart as Heitan.

Thus, Huo Sining felt that the dog she would pick for Su Qingqing couldn’t be too aggressive and uncontrollable, but it had to have a deterrent presence, be willing to bite if necessary and yet be a highly obedient working dog.

She shifted her gaze away from the Rottweiler and continued to the next booth, where she saw several puppies, either black or yellow, with manes like lions on their heads and a ring of red flowers tied around the back of their heads.

There were several buyers crowding around this stall, naturally attracted by the few puppies.

”Uncle, what breed of dogs are these?”

Huo Sining grew curious and couldn’t help but lean in to ask.

”These are Tibetan Mastiff puppies, they’ve just come down, not even two months old. Young lady, would you like to pick one up?”

Huo Sining nodded; no wonder these dogs looked so much like her Heitan when he was little, so they were Tibetan Mastiffs.

Tibetan Mastiffs are indeed fierce compared to Rottweilers, but their obedience falls far short.

Not every Tibetan Mastiff is as obedient as Heitan.

This breed could be described as wild and difficult to tame. In recent years, Tibetan Mastiffs became very popular, and their prices soared. Nearly every wealthy family seemed to have one, kept on a leash and raised as pets.

But dogs do forget their leashes sometimes, and it’s quite common for a Tibetan Mastiff to bite people if it gets loose.

Huo Sining often saw news on the internet about Tibetan Mastiffs breaking free from their chains and injuring or even killing adults and children. These dogs were too fierce, certainly not Huo Sining’s first choice.

Moreover, the Tibetan Mastiffs sold in the Dog Market usually had a mixed lineage, largely diverging from the purebreds. With puppies less than three months old, it was difficult to judge their temperament.

Put nicely, they were Tibetan Mastiffs. Frankly speaking, they didn’t inherit many of the good traits of the purebreds, but they sure didn’t miss out on any flaws. Definitely not good dogs, and taking advantage of the Tibetan Mastiff’s reputation, they were ridiculously expensive with very low cost-effectiveness.

Huo Sining didn’t linger long, and after staring at the Tibetan Mastiffs for a while, she decided to leave.

Just then, a middle-aged dog trader, about in his forties, waved at her from the Tibetan Mastiff area, greeting her, ”Young lady, are you looking to buy a large dog? Come over here and take a look!”

Following the middle-aged man’s voice, Huo Sining saw three large dogs squatting behind his stall, their size not at all inferior to the Tibetan Mastiffs.

These dogs were reddish-brown with closely clipped fur, which made them look quite lean and not swollen. The puppies had erect ears, and their build resembled wolf cubs more, with a dip from the back to the hips, and black fur along their backs.

Huo Sining had seen this type of dog on TV before, the German Shepherd that worked side by side with humans in various roles.

German Shepherds, commonly known as German Black Backs, don’t have a long history, tracing back at most one hundred and eighty years, bred from various types of herding dogs by the Germans.

Despite being a mixed breed, the German Shepherd retained the excellent attributes of its herding dog ancestors: obedient, strong execution ability, and with considerable combat skills, making it a very perfect working dog.

Therefore, the dogs used by special police units are often German Shepherds. Thanks to their large size, intimidating appearance, agility, and strong working abilities suitable for action-oriented work environments, they are often deployed on various missions.

On that middle-aged man’s stall were three German Shepherds, all looking quite majestic.

As the middle-aged man pulled Huo Sining over to his side, he explained that all three German Shepherds were a year and a half old, all males, and based on their size, they probably weighed forty to fifty kilograms each, truly adult dogs.
