Reborn As Super Heiress

Chapter 641: Chapter 638: Sick Dog

Three German Shepherds sat on the ground, one of which held a bone in its mouth, while its eyes looked towards its owner with incredible alertness.

The middle-aged dog seller, intending to show off, scolded lightly, ”Gelatin, drop it! Sit there, don’t move!”

The dog immediately received the command and dropped the bone from its mouth, obediently squatting on the ground without daring to move again, though its tail wagged left and right like a small electric motor.

Without his owner’s order, no matter how much it drooled, the German Shepherd wouldn’t dare touch the bone again, but its eyes still unwillingly gazed at the bone on the ground.

Huo Sining couldn’t help but find the scene amusing. Although she didn’t know much about German Shepherds, the obedience of this particular dog instantly made a good impression on her.

She walked over to the three German Shepherds with a smile and reached out to pat the head of one of the larger ones. The German Shepherd slightly lowered its head, allowing Huo Sining to pet it with compliance.

”Uncle, these big dogs of yours are quite impressive, so well-trained,” she said. ”Are you really willing to sell them?”

The middle-aged vendor laughed, ”Even if I’m reluctant, I have to sell them. Raising one is tough enough, let alone a whole litter. I can hardly afford just their daily food.”

Huo Sining immediately laughed, ”How much are you selling this dog for?”

”I’ve raised this big dog for over a year, and I’ve trained them daily. So the price will definitely be a bit higher, five thousand yuan for one.”

The middle-aged man stretched out five fingers. Seeing that Huo Sining didn’t respond, he added, ”I won’t lie to you, my dogs aren’t purebred, they’re mixed. They don’t have many other qualities, but they are obedient!”

At that moment, another German Shepherd over there saw its companion drop the bone it had nearly claimed, and with eyes shining, it took advantage of the vendor’s inattention and directly rushed over to grab the bone.

The previous German Shepherd became anxious at the sight, but the owner had given strict instructions that it must not move, so it could only stand still in a hurry, glaring at its companion as if about to breathe fire.

The middle-aged man caught a glimpse of this scene out of the corner of his eye and gave another low shout toward the bone-carrying German Shepherd, ”Tiger, drop it!”

The German Shepherd named Tiger hesitated upon hearing the command, glanced back at its companion, who was staring up at it, and reluctantly set the bone back on the ground.

It was then that Huo Sining noticed something—the sharp fangs inside the mouths of the big dogs had all been filed down...

Huo Sining frowned slightly without saying a word.

She had been quite interested in those German Shepherds, but the nature of a German Shepherd with its fangs filed down was altered, something she found unpromising. She still preferred dogs that grew naturally.

Seeing Huo Sining’s hesitation, the middle-aged man thought for a moment and then suggested, ”If you don’t like adult dogs, miss, you can buy a puppy and raise it slowly by yourself. German Shepherds are easy to train. You can find many tutorials online; just follow the training methods provided, and you’ll be fine.”

Huo Sining’s eyes lit up at these words, ”Do you have puppies here?”

The middle-aged man immediately smiled, ”Actually, I mainly sell puppies. Although I do sell adult dogs if the price is right, it’s the puppies that sell more frequently.”

With that, the middle-aged man pointed to another area, and that was when Huo Sining noticed that not far from the three German Shepherds, on the opposite side, there was a cage with five or six puppies, about forty-five to fifty days old, basking in the sun in a goofy manner.

Huo Sining took a few glances at the puppies and noticed that they all had pretty good bone structure and seemed lively.

Seeing Huo Sining’s interest, the middle-aged man didn’t say a word but quickly took a German Shepherd puppy out of the cage and put it on the ground.

The moment the puppy was out of the cage, it started running around joyfully. Seeing Huo Sining, it wasn’t shy and darted toward her. When Huo Sining stepped aside, the puppy whimpered and followed her, sticking close.

Huo Sining’s heart melted, and after looking at the puppy, she asked, ”Uncle, how much for one of these puppies?”

”Six hundred for a male, eight hundred for a female. I’m not going to overcharge you; that’s the going rate in the entire market. If you like one, just take it home.”

Huo Sining nodded her head, agreeing the price was quite fair. However, she wasn’t in a hurry and didn’t plan to make up her mind so quickly. She was still debating whether to buy, and even if she decided to buy, she definitely wanted to pick the one with the best appearance.

”Uncle, I’ll look a little longer!”

With that, Huo Sining reached into the cage and picked up another puppy to take a closer look.

The puppy was adorably clumsy and whimpered while Huo Sining held it in her hands, lightly struggling.

The middle-aged dog seller wasn’t in a hurry and waited quietly as Huo Sining examined the puppy.

At that moment, Huo Sining’s gaze inadvertently swept across a pile of garbage behind the middle-aged dog seller, and her eyes landed on a snakeskin bag at the top of a rubbish bin.

She wasn’t sure if her eyes were playing tricks on her, but as she looked at the snakeskin bag, something inside seemed to be struggling violently.

Huo Sining was startled, and the puppy in her hands nearly slipped out of her grasp.

”What’s wrong?”

Seeing Huo Sining staring intently in that direction with a troubled expression, the middle-aged man couldn’t help but ask.

Huo Sining pointed at the snakeskin bag and said, ”It seems like there’s something moving inside that snakeskin bag.”

The middle-aged man looked in the direction Huo Sining was pointing and a knowing look appeared in his eyes, ”That’s another German Shepherd puppy I brought with me, but it’s sick. Since it’s beyond saving, it was just thrown into the rubbish bin.”

Huo Sining was taken aback, then regained her composure as she frowned and said, ”Even if it’s sick, it’s not dead yet; it can still move. Why not take it to a vet?”

The middle-aged man gave a wry smile: ”We’re all running small operations here. These mixed-breed dogs don’t make much money. Taking one to the vet easily costs several hundred, practically the price of one dog. Who would be willing to spend that much?”

After hearing this, Huo Sining also felt her question was rather naive, but seeing the dog struggling inside the snakeskin bag, she couldn’t help but say,

”Even if you don’t want to treat it, there’s no need to be so cruel as to suffocate the dog in a snakeskin bag, right? It would be better to let it live or die naturally. How much it must be suffering!”

The middle-aged man shook his head with a sigh: ”There’s no other choice when it’s got to this point; no one would do this unless absolutely necessary. That dog has canine distemper. If we let it wander around, I’m afraid it would infect even more dogs. Thousands of puppies pass through this Dog Market every day; if canine distemper spreads, it could wipe them all out.”

Now, Huo Sining hung her head and fell silent. The words of the middle-aged man were not without reason, but they made her feel uncomfortable, and she began to lose interest even in the puppy she was holding.
