The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Chapter 1541: Chapter 1543: The Xiao Family Leaves Dongqing Temple

Shu Yu took Ying Xi back to the rear courtyard, then went out to buy things.

Who would have thought that as soon as she turned a corner, a person suddenly appeared in front of her, lowering his voice urgently, ”Monarch Lu Xiang, something has happened.”

Shu Yu looked up and saw that the face was unfamiliar.

But she herself was a master of disguise and could tell at a glance that the person in front of her had deliberately altered his face.

After taking another look, she immediately recognized him, her brow furrowing tightly and her expression changing slightly, ”Did my sister-in-law send you?”

This person was none other than Lu Tong, the maid who should be by Xiao Family’s side in Dongqing Temple protecting her.

As soon as she saw Shu Yu, she mentioned something was wrong, causing a sinking feeling in Shu Yu’s heart.

After all, Xiao Family was entrusted to her by Xiang Weinan, and if anything were to happen, she’d be too ashamed to face anyone.

”Where is my sister-in-law?”

”Over at the Yuelai Inn.”

Hearing this, Shu Yu sighed slightly in relief, knowing that she was still there, and her heart calmed a little.

”Let’s go to the Yuelai Inn.”

Lu Tong then led Shu Yu to the Yuelai Inn, entering through the back door. Lu Tong looked around cautiously upon entering, afraid of being discovered.

The two went upstairs to the farthest room on the second floor.

Lu Tong knocked on the door, and a voice inside asked warily, ”Who is it?”

”Madam, it’s me.”

The door opened slightly ajar, and upon seeing Lu Tong and Shu Yu behind her, the guard behind the door quickly opened it fully.

Shu Yu entered the room and found the guards protecting Xiao Family were all present.

Shu Yu was taken aback, ”What happened? Why did you leave Dongqing Temple?”

Xiao Family was delighted to see her, ”Yu, I didn’t expect to see you in the prefecture.”

There was a tension in her demeanor, and she dispensed with pleasantries, pulling Shu Yu to sit down with her, and said, ”Yu, I might have been discovered.”

”Discovered?”

Xiao Family nodded, ”I saw someone at Dongqing Temple, someone from the Xiao Family.”

Shu Yu’s expression immediately turned serious, ”How could that be? Tell me exactly what happened.”

Xiao Family steadied her nerves and began from the beginning, ”This morning, I went for my usual walk to the back of the temple. You know, the back is considered the private territory of the temple. Unless someone climbs directly up the steep slope from below, there shouldn’t be anyone around. But I had just walked a short distance when I saw someone standing not far away, acting quite suspiciously.”

The person must have heard something, turned their head, and saw her.

Fortunately, Xiao Family had become cautious after experiencing life-and-death changes, always wearing a curtain hat. Not only when leaving the temple for the back hill but even when walking in the temple courtyard, she covered her face to prevent anyone from recognizing her identity.

Luckily, her caution paid off, and the person didn’t recognize her.

However, Xiao Family managed to see his appearance through the gaps in her curtain hat. She didn’t need a detailed look; one glance was enough to recognize who he was, causing immediate panic.

The person, probably feeling guilty, disappeared as soon as he realized he had been spotted.

Xiao Family dared not linger in the back hill any longer and returned to the temple.

Yet, she couldn’t shake off the uneasiness in her heart, so she immediately sent the resourceful and stealthy Lu Tong to investigate.

Lu Tong went out to inquire and returned shortly after, saying that the person seemed to be looking for someone in the temple and had been caught by a Daoist nun.
