The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Chapter 1504: Chapter 1504: Wei Ronghua

As they reached the entrance of the Red Cake shop, Shu Yu hesitated for a moment and slowed her pace.

Ying Xi stood to her left, supporting her as she lingered at the door, her voice neither too loud nor too soft, ”Mother, the pastries in this shop seem quite expensive. Are we really buying here?”

As soon as she said this, the people inside naturally heard it.

Seeing a woman in her thirties and a teenage girl standing at the door, and noting their attire, the staff member closest to them immediately frowned and looked at them warily.

However, the other two staff members in the shop, who were attending to customers, saw this and wanted to step forward.

But when they saw the look in the eyes of the staff member at the door, they ultimately stood still, continuing to talk to the customers inside as if they hadn’t noticed anything.

Shu Yu and Ying Xi took note of the actions of the three staff members, exchanged a glance, and thought, such a small shop needing three staff members? Isn’t that a bit excessive?

Shu Yu lightly coughed and said, ”Your sister is getting married, we must buy some good pastries for the guests. I’ve heard the pastries here are quite delicious, let’s go in and ask.”

As she spoke, she tried to step forward, but was immediately stopped by the staff member at the door.

”Hold on, Madam, the pastries in our shop are not cheap. If you can’t afford them, you’d better not come in, lest you scare away the other customers.”

Earlier, when Shu Yu and Ying Xi were unsure whether to enter, he couldn’t stop them. Now that they had a foot inside the door, he naturally stepped forward to block them.

Shu Yu looked at the staff member in front of her, just about to say something, when a middle-aged man hurriedly walked over from inside.

The middle-aged man glared at the staff member and then turned to Shu Yu with a smile, saying, ”Sister, please come in and take a look. We have a wide variety of pastries here, feel free to choose whatever flavor you like.”

Shu Yu pointed to the staff member beside them and said in a low voice, ”But he just said...”

”What he said doesn’t count. I am the shopkeeper here, and I have the final say.”

Shu Yu scrutinized the man in front of her, realizing that this must be Wei Ronghua.

Upon their first meeting, Shu Yu confirmed the contents of Old Master Miao’s letter.

Old Master Miao had said that this pastry shop used to be an unremarkable little store with not many varieties. It only started to improve slowly after Wei Ronghua became the shopkeeper, gaining more and more returning customers.

However, after the old boss passed away, the new boss had different ideas than Wei Ronghua.

Especially in recent months, a new pastry line in the shop, under Wei Ronghua’s operation, was ordered by the Madam of the County Magistrate for entertaining guests. It was praised by a dignitary at the banquet, making the pastry shop famous overnight.

With its newfound fame, the new boss wanted to raise the status of the pastries.

If he only raised the price of the pastries eaten by the Madam of the County Magistrate, that would be understandable. But he wanted to increase the price of all pastries in the shop and only do business with wealthy clients.

He wanted to elevate the status of the entire pastry shop.

But Wei Ronghua felt that it was inappropriate, at least for the time being.

The new boss and he had a disagreement, and soon a trusted subordinate of the new boss was placed in the shop.

Judging by the earlier situation, the staff member who just tried to drive them away must be the trusted subordinate of the new boss, right?

This person executed the new boss’s policy thoroughly—only doing business with the wealthy and driving the poor away.

It was by reading this part of Old Master Miao’s letter that Shu Yu deliberately disguised herself in this way to confirm whether it was true.
