The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Chapter 1520: Chapter 1520: Second Master Has Gone Mad

Shu Yu and the others all knew that the Fang Family was exiled to Heichang County because Father Fang, being a hunter, dug up ginseng, which was then snatched by the wealthy locals in collusion with the authorities, eventually leading to the family’s exile.

The Fang Family was wronged. Ma Lu aspired to rise up, not only for his own future and that of his brothers, but also to seek justice for the Fang Family.

Of course, such matters couldn’t be openly written in a letter, but Shu Yu understood from the lines in between.

She let out a soft sigh. Fang Xiyue’s hometown was in the Northern region, far too distant, and unfamiliar to Shu Yu, so she truly couldn’t offer any help.

She shook her head and continued to read on.

The subsequent part was about the Shu family. In fact, by now, the old woman who ordered her to be drowned in a pond was dead, the real culprit Mrs. Xue was also dead. Other members of the Shu family had conflicts and clashes with her and had bullied the young Shu Yu. But now they were exiled, living difficult lives, so it counted as receiving retribution.

For her, the Shu family was already a thing of the past. Having dealt with them, she no longer cared.

Thus, every time she sent a letter to Heichang County, she never mentioned the Shu family, as if this family no longer existed. How the Shu family was faring now, she was not aware.

Unexpectedly, this time when Fang Xiyue sent a letter, they were mentioned.

The letter mentioned that Second Master, went mad!

Shu Yu was very surprised. Second Master’s life should have improved by now; among the entire Shu family, he was the most comfortable.

Last year, Madam Hou followed Lord Wan back to the Capital and became his concubine. And Lord Wan, to make sure Second Master would ’give’ Madam Hou to him, specifically arranged for him to work at the Manor.

At the very least, he didn’t have to toil like the other members of the Shu family. All he needed to do was behave himself, and it was possible for him to start living a decent life in the future.

However, he turned out to be the one who couldn’t hold out first among the Shu family.

Fang Xiyue said, Second Master had been waiting for a royal pardon all along.

From ancient times to now, there have been countless opportunities for royal pardons. When an Emperor ascends to the throne, changes the era name, establishes an Empress, designates an heir, during great funerals, founding temples, inspections, times of abundant harvests, disasters, or chaos, and on and on — there are almost twenty kinds of occasions that could serve as reasons for a royal pardon.

Therefore, many people who aren’t guilty of unpardonable crimes or sentences of immediate execution all have the chance to await a royal pardon.

Those who have a bit of knowledge about court affairs are also waiting for such moments.

Second Master naturally did the same. The Shu family was sentenced because the head of the Shu family was corrupt and got his head chopped off. The crimes of other Shu family members were not as severe, so if there were a royal pardon, they would most likely be on the list.

So as long as they endured, there’d be a chance to restore the family.

However, the previous emperor passed away, and there was no pardon.

The new emperor ascended the throne, and there was no pardon.

Afterwards, during the Empress’s investiture, imperial sacrifices, inspections, and other major events, the new emperor never mentioned any intention to pardon the world.

Second Master waited, waited again and again, only to be disappointed each time.

He was never a man of firm resolve, and the thought of spending the rest of his life as a criminal in a desolate place like Righteous Dao Village, without the slightest hope, was unbearable for him.

Just then, his wives and children also became restless due to the absence of a royal pardon. As the head of the family, everyone naturally turned to him.

It would have been manageable to handle one person’s negativity, but when everyone in the family was negative, all lamenting how they couldn’t survive and saw no hope in their lives, it was too much for the already depressed Second Master to bear.
