The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Chapter 1536: Chapter 1535: Accidental Eavesdropping

That guest is the lecherous old man Qiuju mentioned.

At first, Kong Zhiyou did not intend to eavesdrop. Ever since the child was lost, she had been in confinement, watching the Chen family father and son act as if nothing happened, cozying up to the murderers as if they were family. She was completely disappointed in them and didn’t want to care anymore.

But she heard them mention Meng Yunzheng’s name.

Shu Yu was startled, ”Who did you say?”

Kong Zhiyou looked at her steadily, ”Your fiancé, Young Master Meng Yunzheng.”

Shu Yu’s brows immediately furrowed tightly. Earlier at the county office, they, along with Lord Xie, had already felt that the person in contact with Scholar Chen was quite strange, but they never expected that this person would be related to them.

Shu Yu asked with a stern face, ”What did they say?”

”I heard that man telling my father-in-law to keep an eye on Scholar Meng. He also mentioned that Scholar Meng has recently been getting close to Master Wen, who is looking for knowledgeable people in the county town, seeming to want to recruit a few teachers. This man suspects that it’s Scholar Meng who instigated Master Wen. He told my father-in-law to go find Master Wen, apply for the teaching position, and get close to Scholar Meng to figure out what he’s planning and his purpose.”

Kong Zhiyou wasn’t familiar with Meng Yunzheng, but he was Shu Yu’s fiancé. After experiencing all these ups and downs, she finally understood certain things, recognizing Ding Yuehua’s kindness and her initial warnings.

As a reciprocal gesture, since Ding Yuehua and Monarch Lu Xiang had a good relationship, she would go back and alert them. That’s why when she heard Meng Yunzheng’s name, she didn’t leave immediately. Instead, she stayed hidden and eavesdropped.

But upon hearing her words, Shu Yu’s face changed slightly as she recalled what Meng Yunzheng told her the previous night.

Chen Ji did indeed go to Master Wen, but Master Wen disapproved of his character and rejected him.

”Is there anything else?”

”My father-in-law agreed to this matter, but I don’t know if he succeeded. However, he is quite selfish and probably wanted a backup plan just in case. So he suggested sending Qiuju to that lecherous old man.”

”That ’old man’ is only in his forties,” but compared to sixteen-year-old Qiuju, he definitely seemed old.

Kong Zhiyou said, ”From what I heard, the implication was that this old man had some influence and didn’t refuse to take in Qiuju. But!” Her voice suddenly became much sharper, ”Qiuju is the culprit who caused me to reach my current state. How could I let her go?”

If she really went with someone else, how would she seek revenge? What if Qiuju gained power by following that man and she had to watch her live in luxury without doing anything?

This was something Kong Zhiyou absolutely could not bear.

She felt she needed to speed up her plans against Qiuju, but her body was too weak.

She lost the child at six months, resulting in a very dangerous situation. Although she had completed her confinement period, her body was still frail.

Not to mention, on that day, she hid in the dark for a long time, even enduring wind and rain. By the next day, Kong Zhiyou had fallen ill.

It took a lot of effort for her to recover just in time to learn that the Chen family father and son and Qiuju planned to watch lanterns during the Mid-Autumn Festival night.

With no one at home, it was the perfect opportunity for her to sneak into the study and have a look. If she could discover who that person was, perhaps she could sabotage Qiuju’s plan to leave the Chen family.
