The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Chapter 1537: Chapter 1537: We’re Even Now

Kong Zhiyou initially planned to enter the study to search for something when no one was around, aiming to deal with Qiuju.

As a result of seeing Chen Ji harmed, her first suspect was the person he had secret dealings with. Her second suspect, however, was Meng Yunzheng, since the matters they discussed involved him and might have something to do with him as well.

Kong Zhiyou hesitated at first, but ultimately searched the study and, upon finding these two sheets of paper, hid them away. She had her own motives—if the matter was unrelated to Meng Yunzheng, then her actions would help him.

Regardless of Meng Yunzheng or Shu Yu, both had high statuses, and if she were to encounter any trouble later, perhaps she could seek their help with this as leverage.

Previously, in court, when Shu Yu testified for Qiuju, Kong Zhiyou was furious and considered taking out those two sheets of paper, possibly dragging Meng Yunzheng into the list of suspects too.

However, Shu Yu, despite their past conflicts, didn’t side with Qiuju; instead, she unravelled the truth and proved Kong Zhiyou’s innocence.

Kong Zhiyou was relieved she held back and didn’t impulsively hand over the papers.

Now that the truth of the case has come to light, with Chen Ji having been harmed by Qiuju, the situation became simpler. Kong Zhiyou felt somewhat at ease and handed the documents to Shu Yu as a way to repay her for her help in court.

”Monarch Lu Xiang, this is all I know. I don’t know what grudges Scholar Meng and that mysterious person have, nor do I want to know. I have no other requests, just that after giving you these papers, I wish to have no more connection to this case.”

At this moment, Shu Yu finally took the two sheets of paper handed over by Kong Zhiyou and began to look through them.

In fact, they did not record anything significant, just Meng Yunzheng’s schedule, such as when he left and returned home.

This schedule was not at all secretive; even without Chen Ji, any neighbor in Liufang Alley could find it out.

However, what Meng Yunzheng did when he went out and whom he saw was scarcely mentioned, detailing only three places. After all, Meng Yunzheng’s routines were monotonous: either visiting the Lu family to see Shu Yu, going to the bookstore, visiting Master Wen, or staying home all day without even leaving the gates of Jiangyuan County, with activities confined to the vicinity of Liufang Alley.

The sheets only listed times and locations, nothing more.

No wonder Meng Yunzheng didn’t notice, but everything could be known without needing to trail someone.

Although the papers contained no significant information, if found at the scene of Chen Ji’s murder by the authorities, it would surely drag Meng Yunzheng into the swirling vortex.

Kong Zhiyou indeed did them a great favor.

She carefully put the papers away, ”Thank you.”

”It’s nothing, just consider it my repayment, and we’re even now.”

After speaking, Kong Zhiyou pursed her lips and said, ”Then... I’m leaving, goodbye.”

As she was about to lift the curtain and get out, Shu Yu suddenly asked, ”Can you tell me what that person looks like?”

She had mentioned earlier that the person seemed to be in their forties, indicating she had seen his face.

Kong Zhiyou furrowed her brows, ”I don’t have a deep memory for faces; I just glanced at him briefly and didn’t dare to look closely, so I can’t describe him specifically. I can only tell you a few features.”

Shu Yu sat upright, ”Go on.”

Kong Zhiyou thought for a moment and then described his height and age, as well as his hairstyle, large nose, and short eyebrows.
