The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Chapter 1524: Chapter 1524: The Chen Family’s Trouble Implicates Shu Yu

Shu Yu nodded, watching the direction the person left, and saw her quickly throw herself into a man’s embrace.

She seemed to be crying with grievance, though it was unclear what she was saying. The man glanced in this direction.

However, seeing that Shu Yu was also watching them, the man was taken aback, gave them an awkward smile, and hurriedly left with the woman in his arms.

Retracting his gaze, Shu Yu said, ”That woman is Qiuju, who used to be Kong Zhiyou’s maid. She took advantage of her mistress’s pregnancy to seduce the son-in-law, and later caused Kong Zhiyou to miscarry at six months pregnant.”

Of course, Meng Yunzheng was not familiar with Kong Zhiyou, nor did he know Qiuju, so Shu Yu briefly explained the grievances between them.

In the end, he glanced again at their backs, now hidden in the crowd, and said, ”Speaking of which, Kong Zhiyou should be finished with her confinement now. She is not the type to be bullied without retaliating. Now, with Qiuju and Scholar Chen acting so brazenly, they are really asking for trouble.”

After Shu Yu finished speaking, he noticed Meng Yunzheng remained silent, lost in thought.

She tugged his sleeve and asked softly, ”What’s wrong?”

”I remembered something. Earlier, didn’t I ask Master Wen to recommend a few scholars or candidates with good character to recruit as teachers once the academy opened? Master Wen said he hadn’t publicized it widely, only mentioned it to a few close friends without ever mentioning my name. But a certain Scholar Chen somehow got wind of it and came to ask Master Wen about it.”

He paused and squinted, saying, ”Based on what you just said, it should be this Scholar Chen’s father.”

The Chen Family, with two scholars in succession, was once renowned in Jiangyuan County.

Shu Yu immediately asked, ”What did Master Wen say?”

”Of course, he declined.” The character of the scholars in this Jiangyuan County is well known among each other. Besides, Master Wen, with his wide social circle, knows what needs to be known.

At the time, Meng Yunzheng heard about it in passing and didn’t think much of it, not expecting to encounter it today.

Meng Yunzheng said, ”Master Wen mentioned that the Chen Family father and son are knowledgeable, but overly ambitious, constantly scheming to climb higher. Such people may be fine for other pursuits, but not suitable as teachers.”

Shu Yu agreed with this point, as the Chen Family father and son indeed sought to climb higher, evident from their attitude towards Kong Zhiyou.

Kong Zhiyou invited them to her birthday banquet, but when she didn’t go, the Chen Family’s attitude towards her changed immediately.

The same went for the Xiao Family; when Kong Zhiyou couldn’t make a connection, the Chen family paid her even less regard.

”Enough about them, it’s quite lively up ahead, let’s go,”

Shu Yu had no interest in the Chen Family’s messy affairs, knowing that their behavior would ensure they never remained quiet.

However, Shu Yu’s prediction was too conservative; she thought the Chen Family’s trouble would emerge after some time.

Unexpectedly, the day after the Mid-Autumn Festival, the Chen Family already faced an incident that inexplicably involved her.

At the time, Shu Yu had just tidied herself up, preparing to head to the prefecture to check on the new shop and review the results of the doggerel.

Who would have expected that as soon as she stepped out, two officers arrived, courteously inviting her to make a trip to the county office, saying the county magistrate requested her presence for a case investigation.

The old lady was holding Little Zaozao to see her off and instantly became anxious upon hearing this.
