The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Chapter 1538: Chapter 1538: All the Information on the Paper Is Wrong

Shu Yu had a sense of clarity in her heart. Although Kong Zhiyou’s description was vague, having something was better than nothing.

After Kong Zhiyou finished speaking, a weight lifted from her heart, ”In any case, you handle the matters that follow on your own; they have nothing to do with me anymore.”

”Alright.”

Only then did Kong Zhiyou get off the carriage with peace of mind. Standing by the carriage, she remained silent for a moment before ultimately saying two words, ”Thank you.”

Shu Yu thought she wouldn’t say those words, and she smiled, ”Goodbye.”

Kong Zhiyou left, and it wasn’t until she returned to the side of the Kong family members that Meng Yunzheng got back on the carriage.

”So, what did you talk about for so long?”

Shu Yu handed him the two sheets of paper and explained what had happened.

Meng Yunzheng frowned, and Shu Yu found his expression a bit odd, ”What’s wrong?”

”...I just figured something out.”

Shu Yu was surprised, ”What is it?”

Meng Yunzheng said, ”Chen Ji must have either bribed someone or tricked someone. A few days ago, a woman from Liufang Alley wanted her son to follow me to study, hoping I would be his teacher. She saw that I occasionally enlightened Quanquan and Little Song Le, so she wanted me to include her son.”

But Meng Yunzheng himself was preparing for the imperial examinations, and teaching the two kids at home was just a way to relax during his free time. He didn’t require them to learn much, as long as they developed a habit of awareness regarding reading and literacy.

This was different from formally accepting a student, so he refused the woman’s request, suggesting she seek out Master Wen instead.

Who knew that the woman wasn’t happy with that answer? She was quite determined, simply having her son wait at the Meng family’s doorstep for him.

The boy was only five years old, and whenever Xia Yan tried to send him away, he would cry, saying his mother would hit him if he went back.

Meng Yunzheng was not a soft-hearted person; he wouldn’t change his principles just because the child was pitiable. He went to find the woman, but she avoided him, and he didn’t have the time to waste on this matter.

After all, the boy was just sitting at the Meng family’s gate. The Meng family was in Liufang Alley, so even if the boy didn’t sit there, he would usually play nearby and wouldn’t be in any danger.

Meng Yunzheng was highly regarded in the neighborhood, and the neighbors knew his character, understood, and supported him, trying to persuade the woman, but she similarly avoided them.

Sometimes Meng Yunzheng would go out, either walking or taking the carriage, and the boy would often follow to the alley entrance but dared not follow further.

However, Meng Han, upon encountering him when going out, saw him waiting so pitifully and tricked him by saying Meng Yunzheng had gone elsewhere today, or will be somewhere tomorrow. A few times, he really managed to get him to go back home.

Shu Yu raised the two sheets of paper in her hand, ”So, the information on these... it’s all wrong?”

Meng Yunzheng nodded with a smile, ”Yes, occasionally correct, but mostly just things Meng Han said offhandedly. The times of going out and coming home are mixed between real and false.”

Shu Yu, ”...” For a moment, she didn’t know if she should feel sorry for Chen Ji.

Meng Yunzheng put away the sheets of paper, ”Later, when I get back, I’ll try to talk to the woman and see if her actions are related to Chen Ji.”

”Okay.”

The carriage slowly moved forward, stopping briefly when it reached Liufang Alley. After Meng Yunzheng got off, Shu Yu continued on her way home.

The old lady, even though she knew Shu Yu was just going to testify, was still a bit worried, so she sat in the front hall with Little Zaozao in her arms, waiting.

Seeing Shu Yu return safely, she quickly stood up and asked, ”Has the case been tried? What exactly happened?”
