The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Chapter 1401: Chapter 1401: The Third Place Winner Has Arrived

Shu Yu was delighted today: first, she found her master, and second, Meng Yunzheng topped the exam.

Combining these two events, shouldn’t we celebrate properly? So she drank a little bit of wine.

Unfortunately, just a little bit.

The Dongqing Temple master was staring at her intently, and Meng Yunzheng, worried about her injuries, wouldn’t let her drink more, so she regretfully continued eating.

After finishing the meal, as they were about to leave, the door of the private room was suddenly knocked on with a ‘knock knock knock’.

The people in the room were taken aback, and Xia Yan stood up and went to the door, asking through it, “Who is it?”

“Xun Sheng.” A stranger’s lowered voice sounded from outside.

Shu Yu was puzzled, “Who is Xun Sheng? Did they get the wrong room?”

Meng Yunzheng informed her, “The staff mentioned him earlier, the third-ranking Young Master Xun.”

After saying that, he turned and gestured for Xia Yan to open the door.

When the door opened, sure enough, there stood a man slightly older than Meng Yunzheng.

This man was neat and tidy, with a confident expression, though he tried to appear as composed as possible, “Sir Meng, it’s really you.”

Upon entering and seeing the others sitting in the private room, he paused momentarily, then nodded slightly.

Meng Yunzheng stood up, “How did Young Master Xun know I was here?”

“I was thanking my master and saw a carriage in the inn’s backyard, identical to the one I saw Sir Meng in last time, so I inquired with the staff to find you. I apologize for the abruptness, but I have something to discuss with Sir Meng.”

The people in the private room understood. This Young Master Xun, being the third in rank, brought considerable honor to this inn. When he asked where the owner of that carriage was, of course, the staff told him everything.

However, Meng Yunzheng had been keeping a low profile, choosing an entirely unremarkable carriage exterior, yet this man spotted it immediately.

Should it be said, it’s indeed fitting for the third-ranking of the court exam? Truly observant.

However, Meng Yunzheng wasn’t particularly keen on chatting with him.

What to talk about? They weren’t familiar with each other, just candidates from the same cohort. Being top scorers in the provincial exam, they naturally had a sense of pride. They had met before, at most nodding to each other without exchanging many words.

But Meng Yunzheng knew a bit about Xun Sheng’s nature, being exceptionally dedicated to scholarly pursuits.

He came looking for him, most likely to discuss academic matters.

But!

He wanted to spend time with Yu, and he didn’t have the time.

Meng Yunzheng was about to refuse without thinking, but before he could speak, the Dongqing Temple master spoke first, “You go ahead, I have something to discuss with Yu privately.”

Upon these words, Xun Sheng’s eyes lit up slightly, while Meng Yunzheng exhaled with some helplessness.

“You guys chat slowly, I’ll head over first.”

“Hmm.”

Meng Yunzheng got up and walked toward the door with Xun Sheng. The latter, a bit excited, immediately followed, and before they even stepped out, he had started to ask questions. Compared to the proud demeanor from before the court exam, he was like a different person.

But as Meng Yunzheng walked, he pondered how to quickly wrap up the conversation. After all, who knows how long Yu would need to talk with the temple master. He couldn’t possibly let them wait for him, could he?

After they left, Shu Yu turned her head back.

The quietness in the private room was overwhelming, with the Dongqing Temple master silently sipping tea, saying nothing.

Shu Yu thought for a moment and asked Xia Yan and Ying Dong to leave.

Yet after they departed, and the private room door was shut, silence fell once more.
