The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Chapter 1427: Chapter 1427: A Strange Phenomenon

After Meng Yunzheng bought everything, he planned to return to Chenggu County the next day to visit Song Xin’s grave.

Shu Yu wouldn’t go, after all, they weren’t married yet, and it wouldn’t be appropriate to visit the Meng family’s ancestral grave. Besides, with the Tao Family there and the recent unpleasantness, she didn’t want to encounter them again.

Thus, the two of them agreed that Shu Yu would wait for him at the small courtyard.

But she was still a bit worried, so before Meng Yunzheng set out, she earnestly instructed, ”Make sure to take good care of yourself.”

Meng Yunzheng chuckled, ”Don’t worry, I can take care of myself. You stay home at ease, I’ll be back by tomorrow afternoon at the latest.”

Although he didn’t plan to stay long at the Meng family, since he passed the Scholar exam, he needed to meet up with fellow examinees from before. He also had to thank the Scholar teacher who vouched for him, so he feared he wouldn’t make it back today.

Shu Yu saw Meng Yunzheng and Xia Yan leave. Once they were completely out of sight, she called Ying Xi to go out shopping.

Speaking of which, she had been here for a few days but hadn’t properly explored Changjin Prefecture.

She arrived on the first day in the evening, and the next day she went to Zhong Family Village to find her teacher. When she returned, she ran into Uncle Meng and his family. Just yesterday, she accompanied Meng Yunzheng to buy things, which was purposeful and planned.

Thus, how this vast Changjin Prefecture compared to Dongan Province, she truly had no idea.

Shu Yu told Aunt He, ”We might have lunch outside, so you don’t need to prepare any meals for us.”

”Alright then, miss, take your time strolling around, our Changjin Prefecture is quite lively.”

Shu Yu then left with Ying Xi, wandering around and touring all the nearby alleys before hitting the main street.

Changjin Prefecture was indeed much more prosperous than Dongan Province, she started considering opening a shop here.

Meng Yunzheng had mentioned before that the instant noodles she prepared for him attracted a lot of attention during his exams, and many examinees inquired about them.

Meng Yunzheng did introduce them, but everyone was busy continuing with their exams. Hearing that they couldn’t buy them in Changjin Prefecture yet and since it was a new food, they held off on paying attention.

But now he had already secured a high academic rank, so everything he does might become a focal point. Especially what he eats and wears during exams would spark discussions.

Instant noodles are particularly suitable during exams; they can be eaten dry or soaked in water, likely becoming popular in a few days.

Shu Yu thought opening a noodle shop here would likely have a market.

However, she was really unfamiliar with Changjin Prefecture. To do business here, at least a market survey would be necessary.

But this time around, she wouldn’t be staying long here; probably she would have to leave in a couple of days.

No matter, let’s observe the situation for a couple of days first.

Shu Yu began purposefully observing the surrounding shops and stalls, listening to gossip in inns and restaurants, and even touring the vegetable market.

Then she inadvertently noticed a peculiar phenomenon; Changjin Prefecture... didn’t seem as prosperous and lively as it appeared on the surface.

The gap between the rich and the poor was quite wide here, the rich were extremely rich, and the poor were extremely poor.

The wealthy spent money extravagantly, casually throwing around silver notes, which Shu Yu found exorbitant and wasteful.

Poor people, just to get some food, were selling themselves as slaves or servants at the agency.

Shu Yu furrowed her brows and returned to the small courtyard deep in thought.

Seeing her distracted during dinner, Aunt He couldn’t help but ask, ”Is the food not to your liking, miss?”
