The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Chapter 1430: Chapter 1430: Ending the Lease and Leaving

Meng Yunzheng wasn’t sure if there was a black market in Changjin Prefecture; he truly wasn’t familiar with this area.

Even though he had been living here for several months, he had spent most of his time preparing for exams and only occasionally wandered the streets, unlike Shu Yu, who went through every alley and street, and certainly didn’t visit the agency.

He mostly exchanged knowledge with fellow examinees or occasionally visited local schools and academies to take a look.

Therefore, he might not have seen as much as Shu Yu.

Regarding the situation of population trade, he was even less clear. However, the black market did have population trade transactions.

Daring to forcibly abduct people on the official roads, the first thing Meng Yunzheng thought of was the black market.

Speaking of the black market, both fell silent.

”What’s wrong with you?” Meng Han, upon coming out, saw the two standing opposite each other, looking up at the sky with an expression of concern.

Shu Yu turned back, ”Finished washing? Perfect timing, let’s eat.”

”Sure.”

Meng Han linked arms with Shu Yu and skipped toward the kitchen.

They were set to depart the next day, so that evening, Meng Yunzheng and the others packed quite late before going to bed.

They didn’t have many belongings, mostly books Meng Yunzheng brought. After arriving in Changjin Prefecture, he even bought some more.

Fortunately, the carriage was spacious enough to hold everything. Any additional items that couldn’t be taken, Meng Yunzheng simply gave them to Aunt He.

Aunt He was thrilled; the items Young Master Meng used weren’t cheap, even if there weren’t many, it was a great fortune to her.

She felt helping Young Master Meng during this period was truly worth it.

Meng Yunzheng instructed her to set aside what she wanted and take them away directly the next day.

Aunt He nodded repeatedly, and the next day she specifically called her son and daughter-in-law to help carry things.

She also took them to tidy both inside and outside the house, so when the landlord came to collect the property, the whole courtyard was renewed.

The landlord was very satisfied, not only satisfied with Meng Yunzheng’s care for his property but also pleased that he was a scholar of high distinction.

Hence, he refunded all the rent for the past few months.

Meng Yunzheng wasn’t reserved; he knew once he left, renting out this house wouldn’t be a problem at all, even if the landlord doubled the rent, there would be plenty of people to rent it.

The landlord was delighted and probably wanted to get closer to Meng Yunzheng, insisting on talking to him before he left.

Seeing this, Shu Yu simply walked over to Aunt He and handed her an envelope, ”This is from Yun, he asked me to give this to you, saying you’ve been kind enough to bear with us these past few months. As we’re leaving now, who knows when we’ll see each other again. Please take this as a token of our gratitude.”

Aunt He felt embarrassed to accept it, but upon hearing Shu Yu call it a token of happiness, she thought for a moment and accepted it.

”Well, well, Aunt He thanks you. You and Young Master Meng are really too polite, giving Young Master Meng a hand, I’ve benefited a lot. Young Master Meng is easy-going and generous; I’ve worked for others before, but Young Master Meng is the kindest and most approachable I’ve met.”

Aunt He genuinely liked this pair of engaged couple, always speaking politely, considerate in their actions, never treating her as a mere servant, and inviting her to join them for meals.

Even when they occasionally went out and bought snacks, they’d invite her to share.

Knowing she had young grandchildren at home, they’d specially buy candy for her to take back.
