The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Chapter 1448: Chapter 1448: Zhao Xi’s Celebration

A few people looked bewildered, and in the next moment, Zhao Xi pulled out a string of firecrackers from behind him, laid them in a row at the entrance, and lit them with a lighter.

The sound of firecrackers ’crackling’ erupted, accompanied by Zhao Xi’s booming voice, ”Congratulations to Meng Yunzheng for achieving the small three distinctions in the exams, earning the title of Scholar. Congratulations, congratulations!”

Meng Yunzheng’s expression, ”...” His composed look couldn’t be maintained, and his expression showed some cracks.

At this moment, several people from the courtyard also came out; perhaps due to their sudden return, most of the people at home were servants. Besides them, only the old lady and Cuihua and Lanhua were there.

Shu Yu didn’t see Shuyou, presumably because she was heavily pregnant and couldn’t come out to join the festivities.

The old lady was delighted to see them. She first sized Shu Yu up, then held Meng Yunzheng’s hand and said, ”Good to have you back. We heard about your success in the exams quite early and have been waiting for you to come back to celebrate. Exams must’ve been tough, come on in.”

Meng Yunzheng adjusted his expression and replied with a smile, ”It wasn’t tough.”

Then, he supported the old lady’s hand and walked in with her.

Shu Yu lagged a step behind, looking at Cuihua and Lanhua beside her, ”Did something happen at home? Why are you both here to see Grandmother today?”

Cuihua laughed, glanced at the shy Lanhua, and said, ”Nothing happened. It’s just that Lanhua’s wedding date is approaching, and there are some preparations to be done. We came to ask Grandmother for advice.”

Shu Yu almost forgot that Lanhua would be getting married next month.

They were engaged at the end of last year. When choosing the wedding date, it was initially set for the first half of the year; however, due to the former emperor’s death, Shu Yu persuaded them to choose the latter half.

She’s been so busy lately that she didn’t even think about it.

Shu Yu smiled at Lanhua, ”Looks like soon enough, Lanhua will be someone else’s wife.”

Lanhua’s face flushed red upon hearing that, ”You talk about me. Now that Young Master Meng has achieved his title, are you still planning to wait two years before marrying?”

Speaking of this, Cuihua was a bit worried, ”Yu, why not change the date and get married soon? Young Master Meng has always attracted some attention for his looks alone. Now with his title, even more families will be eyeing him.”

”Don’t worry, Sister Cuihua. We agreed on a date before. If we suddenly change it, others might think there’s something wrong with us. Besides, even if Yun and I got married, those with intentions would still have intentions.”

These days, taking concubines is quite common. Even if they get married, the powerless might still want to send concubines his way, and the powerful could have him divorce directly for a new marriage. Those who are truly polite and understand propriety would stop eyeing Meng Yunzheng once they know he’s engaged.

Cuihua thought for a second and agreed, not persuading further, instead asking quietly about Meng Han behind her, ”Who is this girl?”

Shu Yu turned back, Meng Han was here for the first time and unfamiliar with the Lu family, so after entering, she was quite reserved, unlike how lively she was on the road, cautiously observing her surroundings behind Shu Yu.

Shu Yu found it amusing and pulled her over, ”This is Yun’s cousin, she came with us to have a look this time.”

Meng Han hurriedly broke into a smile, and Cuihua and Lanhua were slightly surprised, stepping forward to hold her hand and speak warmly with her.

Meng Han easily becomes familiar once she knows a little, and it wasn’t long before she blended in with the Lu family.
