The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Chapter 1431: Chapter 1431: A Letter with Only One Short Sentence

Because the master family treated her well, Aunt He reciprocated by working diligently.

Now that Meng Yunzheng and the others are leaving, Aunt He truly feels a strong reluctance.

So, when she came over this morning, she also prepared some local specialties for them to take along.

After Shu Yu gave the red envelope to Aunt He, Meng Yunzheng called her from there, ”Yu, let’s go.”

It’s getting late; if they delay any longer, they won’t make it to the next town before dark.

Shu Yu waved to Aunt He, left the house, and boarded the carriage.

Aunt He stood at the gate of the small courtyard, watching the landlord lock the door and leave, she couldn’t help but sigh softly, feeling inexplicably a bit lonely.

Her son and daughter-in-law called her, ”Mother, let’s go, time to head home.”

Unexpectedly, Aunt He waved them off, ”You go ahead; I still have something to do here. Leave that little stool; I’m going to sit here for a while.”

Her son and daughter-in-law, very confused, exchanged a look.

”Mother, this Young Master Meng and the others have all left. What else is there to do?”

”Ah, never mind about it; anyway, I’m not going back today.”

Unable to get anything out of her, they just picked up their things and went home.

Aunt He sat on a small stool at the gate of the small courtyard, chatting with the neighbors to pass the time.

More than an hour passed, and then suddenly, clip-clop, a horse came running up the street, with a youth on it, sweating profusely.

When the horse stopped at the gate of the small courtyard, the youth immediately dismounted, looked at the courtyard in front of him, as if confirming he hadn’t made a mistake, then quickly ran up to knock on the door.

”Is anyone here? Meng Yunzheng, are you there?”

Aunt He quickly stood up, took a few steps forward, ”Young Sir, Young Sir, are you looking for Young Master Meng? Are you from the Meng family?”

The young man was taken aback, turned his head to look at Aunt He, ”Indeed, I am from the Meng family. Who are you?”

”I am Aunt He, who used to help Young Master Meng with work.”

”So you are Aunt He.” The young man exhaled, ”I am Meng Yunzheng’s cousin, Meng Qi, I’ve come to find my cousin.”

”But Young Master Meng, the whole family has already left quite a while ago.”

Meng Qi’s eyes widened, ”Left? Everyone has left?”

”Yes, look, the courtyard has already been vacated, and even the lock is in place.”

Meng Qi looked down, seeing a large lock hanging brightly on the door; he was so anxious just now that he hadn’t noticed it at all.

Meng Qi’s expression changed slightly, and he turned to leave.

Aunt He quickly stopped him, ”Young Master Meng, wait a moment. Although Young Master Meng has left, he left a letter with me, tasked to give to anyone who comes looking for Miss Meng Han.”

”A letter?”

Aunt He pulled out an envelope from her sleeve and handed it over.

Meng Qi thanked her, hurriedly opened it, and read it.

The letter contained just one line—”Meng Han went with me to Dongan Province. After we arrive, I’ll have Father write back to assure our safety.”

One sentence on a single sheet of paper, succinct to the point of exasperation.

Meng Qi ground his teeth, crumpled the letter tightly into a ball.

But no matter the case, upon reading the letter and knowing his sister was safe, Meng Qi let out a sigh of relief.

He steadied his breath and asked Aunt He, ”Before they left, did they say anything else?”

Aunt He thought for a moment, ”They didn’t say much else; only that Young Master Meng mumbling said he thought the person coming for Miss Meng Han would have arrived last night. If they had arrived last night, they could have taken Miss Meng Han back.”
