The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Chapter 1296: Chapter 1296: The Most Complete New Year

On New Year’s Eve, the shop also closed its doors, and would reopen after two days.

This year, the Lu family was particularly lively for the New Year, with everyone gathering for dinner at Shu Yu’s house.

Not only Lu Sanzhu’s family but also Lu Sixing’s family was there.

Although Yuan Shanchuan’s parents and brothers were around, the family relationship had been severed earlier.

Knowing Shu Yu became Village Chief, and Yuan Shanchuan increasingly gained the favor of Lord Xiang, the Yuan family had considered mending the relationship.

However, Village Chief Chen from Daxu Village was different from that village chief from Ruan Family Village; he was obviously more farsighted and more reliable.

Back then, he promised Yuan Shanchuan he’d keep an eye on the Yuan family, and he really did keep the Yuan family’s parents in check; even if they acted old and shamelessly, Village Chief Chen suppressed them.

Yuan Shanchuan knew he could lead a stable life, thanks to him.

Therefore, to reciprocate, whenever there was news from the authorities, he would inform Village Chief Chen ahead of time.

Not to mention anything else, just last time when Shu Yu’s workshop was recruiting workers, Yuan Shanchuan had someone convey the message to Village Chief Chen.

Back then, more than ten people from Daxu Village ‘interviewed’, and Shu Yu indeed selected three hardworking and suitable villagers to stay in the workshop and work.

With people like Village Chief Chen, Daxu Village would only get better in the future.

Thus, on such a festive occasion, Yuan Shanchuan only sent New Year’s gifts to Village Chief Chen and didn’t bother going back.

Meng Yunzheng came with Little Song Le, and Shu You brought her newlywed husband Zhao Xi along with Old Doctor Zhao.

Cuihua’s family of three also came, though traditionally, they should return to their in-laws for the New Year. But she preferred the atmosphere of the Lu family, and after discussing with Lai Jinhai, decided to stay in the county town for the New Year before returning.

The Lai family was naturally unhappy, but Lai Jinhai had earned quite a bit this year by working with Lu Erbai all over the place. Before the New Year, he bought many things for his home, including a supposedly expensive bottle of sunflower oil and two pounds of melon seeds.

The Lai family’s in-laws, humbled from receiving gifts, hoped Cuihua would engage more with her parents’ family, persuading themselves that it was a rare occasion for the Lu family to gather. So they let it slide, and happily took the new clothes for the New Year that Cuihua made for them and went back.

On New Year’s Eve, the Lu family arranged three tables for the New Year’s Eve dinner, excluding the servants of the Lu family.

It was a bustling gathering, and the children were especially joyful.

Last year, Zhao Xi bought fireworks and firecrackers for the twins; this year, with more children, he and Meng Yunzheng almost hauled back a huge basket of fireworks.

The children went wild; the twins had played last year and had experience, introducing the various kinds of fireworks to others, feeling extremely proud.

Watching the fireworks shoot into the sky, the children screamed on the spot, jumping and shouting.

Even the adults couldn’t resist quietly taking a few fireworks to play with.

After all, when they were young, their families were poor, and no one had the spare money or ability to buy these things.

The old lady looked at the entire family, happily drank two glasses of wine, leaned on Shu Yu, her eyes slightly red, “Yu, I am really happy today; everyone is here, you are here, how wonderful.”

Shu Yu hugged her, “From now on, you can be this happy every day.”

“Yes.” The old lady nodded heavily, probably feeling the effects of the alcohol, she got up to play with fireworks.

But being old, she soon felt drowsy.

Shu Yu had Hua Xian help her back to her room to rest, while everyone else stayed up through the night.

The children couldn’t stay up, and after tiring themselves out, they slept. The remaining people rarely experienced such a peaceful yet lively evening.
