The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Chapter 1264: Chapter 1264: The Boss Behind the Scenes Is Unknown

Meng Yunzheng considered himself to have been quite low-key over the years; he had never been involved with the black market.

Anyone could sell the manor and the hill on the black market, even a brothel could do it, but not him.

Shu Yu thought for a moment, ”Do you know who the black market’s hidden boss is?”

”I really don’t know.” Not only him, but even the Fifth Prince and others were also unaware.

The black market appeared very early, having been established now for two or three decades. No one knew who the hidden boss was, but everyone knew this person’s status was certainly not low.

The black market in Jiangyuan County was just small-scale, not really influential, dealing only in small goods.

Yet, throughout the Dasu dynasty, there were three extremely large black markets, constructed very covertly.

These black markets didn’t just sell lifeless objects; this was the real black market.

Filled with all kinds of shady things, and shady people.

Among these people naturally included individuals from various industries and also imperial court officials.

The black market had intricate ties with the imperial court; because of this, anyone who wanted to investigate the people behind the black market always faced tremendous difficulties and obstructions, which is why Meng Yunzheng still didn’t know who this person was.

But evidently, this person probably had some connection with Meng Yunzheng? Otherwise, why would they refuse him outright without even discussing the price?

Meng Yunzheng suddenly sneered, ”Not selling to me is probably because they have something to hide. The more they do this, the more I want to get this manor.”

Shu Yu’s eyes lit up, ”Me too.”

Shu Yu didn’t want a troublesome neighbor, and Meng Yunzheng indeed had his eyes on it for a future academy.

The two shared the same goal, and if the person behind this black market truly had any connection with Meng Yunzheng, it would be better to find out sooner to avoid suffering losses.

”Since Steward Guo refuses to sell to us, let’s find an intermediary, and have them buy it, then we can buy it from them.”

Meng Yunzheng felt the same way, ”But we just went to see Steward Guo, if suddenly a stranger comes to buy the manor, he will likely figure out our plan. To prevent this, Steward Guo might only sell the manor to the brothel.”

Shu Yu sighed, ”So the only one we can find is the boss of the brothel?”

Not wanting to go, feeling frustrated.

Meng Yunzheng laughed, ”If you don’t want to go, you can rest at home, I will go.”

”Well... let’s go together, at least it helps.”

The two planned to go directly to the prefecture while it was still early.

But after leaving the hill for a while, they felt a fleeting gaze behind them.

The two quickly realized that Steward Guo was uneasy, probably sent someone to watch them.

The more he did this, the more Meng Yunzheng and Shu Yu’s doubts grew.

With someone watching, they couldn’t go directly to the prefecture. They had to first return to the Manor, spoke to Daniu briefly, then immediately took a carriage back to Jiangyuan County.

After arriving at the county town, Shu Yu and Meng Yunzheng changed into men’s clothes, disguised as middle-aged men. They then abandoned the carriage and rode horses, traveling light directly to the prefecture.

This time, they didn’t bring Xia Yan and Ying Xi, and took the small path, riding their horses swiftly.

Yet even so, by the time they reached the city gates, it was already quite late.

The two managed to enter the city just before the gates were closed.

It was already late October, the sky darkened early, and though there were still some shops on both sides of the street that hadn’t closed, they had started hanging lanterns.

They couldn’t avoid being noticed, especially given that the brothels were only lively at night.
