The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Chapter 1276: Chapter 1276: Old Master Miao Agrees

However, Shu Yu shook her head with a smile, ”Sorry, I can’t do it.”

Old Master Miao frowned sharply, ”So, we’re at an impasse.”

”Not quite,” Shu Yu denied, ”I’m not from the temple, and I can’t make decisions about moving the longevity lamp. If even I could handle it, then the Dongqing Temple would be in chaos. Besides, our terms aren’t equal. We want the black market’s hill and estate, but if we can’t get it after trying, there’s not much we can do, we can just look for another place. But moving the longevity lamp to the ancestral master’s altar is something Old Master Miao has longed for many years. Adding it up, we’re at a disadvantage.”

Old Master Miao clicked his tongue inwardly, this young girl is not like a girl who just came of age.

She calculates meticulously, not missing a beat.

Old Master Miao is well-weathered, having operated a brothel; his presence often intimidates ordinary youths.

Yet this young girl smiles serenely, truly a testament to what it’s like to be exiled.

Old Master Miao asked, ”What can you do then?”

”I can introduce you to my master, Old Master Miao.”

Old Master Miao, ”...” So he still has to negotiate himself?

”Of course, if Old Master Miao helps us, I will put in a good word for you in front of my master. You heard it, my master is very fond of me, my words hold some weight.”

Old Master Miao felt she was painting him a rosy picture.

But he couldn’t help but be tempted by this offer because meeting the Dongqing Temple master is indeed difficult.

”Besides,” Meng Yunzheng interjected, adding, ”We won’t ask Old Master Miao to give that estate for free. Old Master Miao can buy it at a low price, and we’ll buy it back at the original price of thirty thousand silver taels. This way, Old Master Miao wouldn’t lose.”

Old Master Miao pondered, he is a businessman, after all, he doesn’t want to do a losing deal.

After a long while, he looked at Shu Yu, ”When will the Dongqing Temple master return?”

Shu Yu shook her head, ”I don’t know.” Before Old Master Miao could voice his dissatisfaction, she quickly said, ”But Old Master Miao has waited for so many years, so waiting another year or so shouldn’t matter. You can have someone keep an eye on the Dongqing Temple, and once the master returns, come find me, and I’ll immediately go speak with my master, how about that?”

Honestly, this sounded hollow; not knowing when the Dongqing Temple master will return, and the uncertainty of moving the longevity lamp, these were just empty promises. Old Master Miao couldn’t just believe them.

He furrowed his brows and after a moment spoke, ”I can agree to your terms, but I won’t wait in vain. Let’s sign a contract, I’ll give you two years, and if the Dongqing Temple master doesn’t return by then, or she returns but Monarch Lu Xiang can’t fulfill the promise, you’ll have to compensate me seventy thousand silver taels.”

Seventy thousand silver taels, plus the thirty thousand to buy the estate, that’s a total of a hundred thousand silver taels.

Old Master Miao really has a shrewd heart.

But Meng Yunzheng agreed without hesitation, ”Okay.”

A hundred thousand taels, he could draw some more to gather that amount.

”Great! Young Master Meng is straightforward, so it’s decided then.”

Old Master Miao was in a great mood, and Shu Yu immediately asked the Daoist nun to fetch pen, ink, paper, and inkstone, and they signed the contract on the spot.

Meng Yunzheng folded and put away his copy of the contract, stood up, and said, ”It’s getting late, let’s head back to the city. The people from the black market must be getting impatient waiting outside the Miao Residence.”
