The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Chapter 1285: Chapter 1285: The Emperor Passes Away

However, what Madam Li did not expect was that she hoped Yu Fenglin would be filial to her and would bring good things to their home.

But unexpectedly, Yu Fenglin was indeed able to do so. Yet, because he had a fierce-looking face, every time he brought things to his in-laws’ home, Madam Li always felt as if he was going to beat her.

After a few times, Madam Li became hesitant to accept his things.

She used to consider visiting her daughter and son-in-law often, with the intention of showing off as a mother-in-law, but later she dared not.

Of course, these are tales for later.

In short, Madam Liang’s words struck right at Madam Li’s heart, and finally, the matter between Lanhua and Yu Fenglin was settled.

The old lady joyfully went to find Lord Yu, and after both sides discussed, they let the two officially meet.

Lanhua and Yu Fenglin already had feelings for each other, so there was nothing more to say this time.

Within a few days, they were engaged, and then they began selecting a wedding date.

They naturally didn’t intend to wait for three years like Shu Yu. Now that it was the end of the year, they planned to get married in March of the following year.

Shu Yu thought that the current Emperor would pass away this winter, and there were not many days left, it seemed near.

According to the laws of the Dasu dynasty, when the Emperor passed away, common people were prohibited from marrying for half a year.

Therefore, she suggested that they should choose a date in the second half of the year.

The old lady also thought that the latter half was better, as Lanhua was still young.

With the elders busy with Lanhua’s matters, Shu Yu just listened to a bit of it every day when she returned home; she didn’t pay much attention, she hadn’t even seen what Yu Fenglin looked like.

She was currently busy with recruitment affairs, having previously spread the word that they were hiring at the newly built workshop.

Because of the black market issues, it was delayed by two days, and once she returned, she immediately went to the workshop.

Quite a few people came from Shangshi Village, along with several nearby villages, including those surrounding the workshop, nearly three hundred people came in droves.

Shu Yu was having a headache, did they really understand the conditions she mentioned?

Looking at the crowd with their feet aligned on the open ground in front of the workshop, she couldn’t help but hold her forehead.

Even people as old as her Grandmother came too.

Shu Yu had to step out and emphasize again, ”I’ve mentioned before, those working here need to at least reside here. Although there are a few days of rest each month, long-term absence is definitely not allowed. Families with fields and land need to help out during busy farming seasons, right? I don’t want people like that, if you have such issues, don’t waste everyone’s time.”

The crowd started whispering; someone unwilling to give up said, ”But those students in schools get breaks during busy farming seasons, why can’t we?”

Shu Yu smiled, ”Those students pay tuition to schools, am I paying you wages here? If you’re willing to compensate me for the losses caused by going back during busy farming seasons, by paying me, I wouldn’t mind giving you a farming season break.”

Hearing this, everyone immediately fell silent.

Shu Yu’s words were quite impactful; her temperament was known by most people in Shangshi Village, so after she emphasized repeatedly, no one dared to cause trouble, though they felt it was a pity.

Ultimately, half of the people did not meet Shu Yu’s requirements, and of the remaining half, after eliminating those who were lazy, picky, overly self-important, and those with poor health or who had family burdens, they finally settled on forty-two workers after a lengthy process.

Among them, thirteen were from Shangshi Village.

The candidates were chosen, but the start date had not been set yet.

At this time, news came from the capital that the Emperor had passed away.
