The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Chapter 1290: Chapter 1290: Meng Pei’s Plan

Shu Yu was taken aback; how could there still be a delivery mission during the New Year?

Then he thought about the New Year goods he wanted to send to the capital and couldn’t help but touch his nose.

Gong Qiu said, “Because the New Year is imminent, most of the escorts at the agency have families and are unwilling to be apart from them. There are only a few who can take on the escort missions. Originally, my father just started at the escort agency, and such tasks shouldn’t have fallen to him, but he volunteered, planning to make the trip.”

Shu Yu asked curiously, “Why?”

Uncle Meng wasn’t exactly without family, and this year was the first New Year after he and Meng Yunzheng had reunited. Without someone like Gong Qiu watching over them, it was a time for easy and carefree family gatherings.

Why would he choose to leave instead?

Talking about this, Meng Yunzheng was also a bit troubled, “My uncle sent a letter, several in fact, urging my dad to go back to the old home for the New Year. He said that the two brothers haven’t seen each other for many years, and last time was a hasty parting. He wants dad to take me back, and during the New Year, offer incense to our ancestors, have a reunion.”

What Meng Yunzheng didn’t mention was that Uncle Meng’s tone in the letters was almost like crying.

Actually, last time they went for the Meng family’s grave migration, Uncle Meng had tried to stop them, saying that there were only a few months left, so why not just spend the New Year at home.

It was Meng Pei who refused on the grounds of proposing to the Lu family, which was about Meng Yunzheng’s affair, already agreed upon, so Uncle Meng naturally couldn’t stop them. He only repeatedly advised them to be sure to return for the New Year when they left.

Uncle Meng and Meng Pei were very close; when the Meng family’s parents passed away, Uncle Meng was still quite young.

At that time, Meng Pei had to take over the escort agency, dealing with relatives and escorts coveting the Meng family, busy beyond measure. Even so, he still took some time to teach Uncle Meng.

Uncle Meng virtually grew up watching Meng Pei as he moved forward, admiring and respecting this big brother. When he heard of his brother’s ‘death’ over a decade ago, he fell gravely ill.

Now that the brothers have reunited, although Uncle Meng is already thirty-five or thirty-six, his tone in the letters is still as petulant as a child.

Meng Pei, vexed by his uncle’s urgent letters, was reminded of something important.

The issue of New Year’s ancestral worship.

Not only do they need to worship their ancestors, but Meng Pei also has to visit Song Xin.

He and Meng Yunzheng seldom reunite, but it’s even more rare with Song Xin.

He and his son have at least secretly met a few times over the past ten years, but not with Song Xin. This first year after avenging their grievances, of course, he should spend it with his wife.

A son, after all, is not as important as a wife.

Hence, Meng Pei decided he would quickly head to the capital with the escort, deliver the goods, and then hurry back home to have a New Year’s Eve dinner with Song Xin.

After hearing this, Shu Yu was speechless, “So you’re not going back?”

“My uncle wants me to go back to the Meng family. But as you know, I’m actually not a child of the Meng family, although the Meng family doesn’t know, we are aware. Accompanying them to worship ancestors during the New Year, well, it doesn’t seem appropriate.”

As for his mother, he has spent every year by her side for the past ten years. This time, he’ll leave his parents to their heartfelt conversations.

Shu Yu: “…”

That makes sense.

“Moreover, I am not the same as my father. My dad and my uncle have a close and deep bond, but I hardly have any connection with them. Even if I went back, I wouldn’t know anyone, and it would be extremely awkward.”

Meng Yunzheng also didn’t enjoy the New Year visits to relatives and friends.
