The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Chapter 1263: Chapter 1263: Steward Guo Knows Me

When Steward Guo spoke, Shu Yu and Meng Yunzheng both understood.

Indeed, the buyer was the owner of that brothel.

If it weren’t him, Steward Guo could have just denied it outright; as long as he didn’t specify which family, it wouldn’t count as revealing the buyer’s identity.

At this point, asking further had no meaning. It was evident that Steward Guo wouldn’t sell the manor to them.

Meng Yunzheng stood up, “In that case, we’ll take our leave. Goodbye.”

Shu Yu murmured softly, “Why so hasty? I still want to ask about our future neighbor’s situation. We might have to deal with them in the future.”

Meng Yunzheng pushed her out, “Alright, you’ll find out when they move. Mr. Guo is in a difficult position, let’s not trouble him further.”

Steward Guo merely smiled and apologized a few times, then escorted them to the door, instructing the same staff who brought them to lead them down the hill.

As soon as Meng Yunzheng and Shu Yu were gone, the smile on Steward Guo’s face suddenly vanished.

He frowned, called in a subordinate, and instructed in a low voice, “Go contact Old Master Miao and say I agreed to his offered price. The manor and hill will be sold to him.”

The subordinate was startled, “But the price he offered is too low, we…”

“Low as it may be, we have no choice. I didn’t expect Meng Yunzheng would take an interest in the manor. Whether by coincidence or intention, it’s a bit troublesome.”

The subordinate was still puzzled, “But even if we sell it to Old Master Miao, if Young Master Meng wants to buy it later, he can still get it from Old Master Miao.”

“It’s not the same. We both know what Old Master Miao wants with the manor. By then, the manor’s reputation would be ruined. If you’re a respectable family, would you spend a fortune to buy such a place?”

Besides, Old Master Miao isn’t an easy person to deal with; he is also very satisfied with the manor.

Upon hearing this, the subordinate immediately agreed, “I’ll go find Old Master Miao now.”

Steward Guo waved his hand, “Go.”

The subordinate waited a while after Shu Yu and the others left before going down the mountain.

Shu Yu and Meng Yunzheng, however, frowned deeply soon after leaving the hilltop.

Meng Yunzheng said in a low voice, “I set out immediately upon hearing the news in the prefecture. From the time I saw you to when we were at the manor seeing Steward Guo, it was only half an hour. The manor couldn’t have sold in such a short time.”

Shu Yu nodded in agreement, “Moreover, the manor seemed completely vacant. Once sold, Steward Guo should have left too. Why would there still be two people stationed halfway up the bamboo forest, waiting to show us the manor when they heard we wanted to buy it?”

“Steward Guo seemed to recognize me.”

Meng Yunzheng narrowed his eyes slightly; recognizing Shu Yu was not surprising.

The black market was right next to the sunflower; with the manor under new ownership, it’s impossible for the black market not to know.

But Meng Yunzheng was always low-key and rarely appeared here. Even in Jiangyuan County, he seldom showed his face.

Steward Guo’s initial expression upon seeing them was quite subtle.

Shu Yu glanced up at him, “So, is he targeting you? Why doesn’t he want to sell the manor to you?”

Meng Yunzheng turned to look at the hill, shook his head, also confused, “Over the years, if there’s anyone I’ve had a grudge with, it would’ve been the Gong Family. But now the Gong Family has fallen, who else could it be?”
