The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Chapter 1294: Chapter 1294: Lu Sixing Stocks Up

After sending off Meng Pei and the Xiao Family, everyone returned to the city gates, and resumed their activities.

Shu Yu quietly opened her shop in the county town—a modest establishment situated on Ningshui Street, which she had purchased.

Melon seeds and sunflower oil were stocked, but business was not booming.

After all, these were novel items that no one had seen before, and everyone was still in a wait-and-see mode. Due to the recent passing of the previous emperor, Shu Yu hadn’t advertised loudly with drums and gongs, so many people didn’t even know what her shop sold.

Shu Yu hired two eloquent staff members to help with introductions.

However, the prices were a bit steep. The melon seeds were reasonable enough, but sunflower oil was more expensive than regular vegetable oil, which was not cheap itself. When sunflower oil hit the shelves, ordinary citizens were reluctant to buy it.

Nonetheless, Shu Yu was not in a hurry. The workshop had just started, and production was still limited. After sending part of the stock to the capital, there was even less left. If business truly boomed, there wouldn’t be enough supply to meet the demand.

Yet, it was only a few days before Madam Liang and Lu Sixing came knocking, expressing interest in purchasing stock.

Shu Yu was bewildered upon hearing this, but Lu Sixing clarified, ”Let’s not talk about sunflower oil for now. The melon seeds are indeed aromatic and delicious, and they’re portable. We want to buy some to sell at Peach Blossom Forest. As you know, the people frequenting there are wealthy young ladies and masters, as well as many scholars, who have money, leisure, and a fondness for unique items. So we’d like to give it a try.”

Madam Liang nodded repeatedly on the side, ”Rest assured, we’ve discussed this with Third Uncle. He’s now the steward at Peach Blossom Forest and can facilitate things for us.”

Peach Blossom Forest generally didn’t restrict people from entering, but there were stipulations for selling goods.

For instance, selling small knick-knacks from a basket like Lanhua’s self-made hair silk ribbons earlier was fine, as it wouldn’t disturb others.

If it were a stall or pungent items, or even inconspicuous stuff, it wouldn’t be allowed inside.

Melon seeds had never appeared before, and their shells inevitably created litter, so Madam Liang first had a word with Lu Sanzhu.

Lu Sanzhu could make decisions, but being well-versed in social nuances now, he at least reported to Boss Ji before agreeing.

Boss Ji had tasted the melon seeds and liked them very much, even buying two catties.

Regarding the shells, they were indeed small and difficult to clean. However, the ladies and gentlemen in Peach Blossom Forest were cultured individuals and wouldn’t carelessly discard the shells. Except for those uncouth playboys, who were scarce here—regardless of whether there were melon seed shells, they’d throw other objects, making little difference.

With Boss Ji’s consent, Madam Liang and Lu Sixing immediately sought out Shu Yu.

”Isn’t the New Year approaching soon? I heard from Yu earlier that melon seeds make for good New Year’s goods, which sparked this idea.”

This notion popped into Lu Sixing’s mind and after discussing it with her husband, Yuan Shanchuan, both believed it was a good idea.

Now that Quanquan was older, he and Little Song Le had become good friends, almost inseparable, meeting daily to play.

Currently, Little Song Le lived in the Meng family, who had dedicated servants to look after him.

Because Meng Yunzheng needed to study, the Meng family’s servants would usually drive the carriage every day to take Little Song Le to play with Quanquan, either at the Yuan family house or Shu Yu’s home. Quanquan was never left unattended, so Lu Sixing hardly took him herself.
