The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Chapter 1293: Chapter 1293: Wanting to Be Friends with Her

Shu Yu, considering Xiang Weinan’s part, didn’t hold any grudge against the Xiao Family.

However, since the Xiao Family came to apologize, she naturally held no resentment.

“I accept your apology.”

The expression on Xiao’s face instantly relaxed, “Thank you.”

She opened her mouth as if wanting to say more, but eventually stopped, merely smiling, “Now that the matter is cleared, I’m relieved. Well, I’ll be off, goodbye.”

Shu Yu slightly nodded and escorted her and Nanny Gu out of the Lu Family’s gate.

She only turned back after their carriage disappeared into the distance.

The old lady came over and peeked, “Gone? I was thinking of having her stay for dinner.”

“Gone.” Shu Yu clung to the old lady’s arm, “What delicious food has Grandmother made? I could smell the aroma from afar.”

“Oh, don’t mention it. I went to buy groceries, and you were gone when I returned.” The old lady tapped her nose, “County Magistrate’s madam came, leaving me and her staring at each other in silence, with nothing to talk about.”

Shu Yu chuckled. While walking inside with her, she recounted her encounter with Meng Yunzheng and mentioned in passing that Meng Pei was going to escort goods to the capital and would spend the New Year at the old Meng Family’s residence this year.

Upon hearing this, the old lady got anxious, “Why so suddenly? No, I must prepare something for him. It’s not proper to return home empty-handedly.”

Shu Yu shook her head and smiled, letting the little old lady bustle about.

That evening, Meng Pei came to the Lu Family to bid farewell after finishing work at the escort agency.

The old lady handed him some hastily prepared items.

Early the next morning, Meng Pei set off.

Shu Yu and Meng Yunzheng accompanied him and several other escorts from the agency to the city gate. By coincidence, shortly after, Xiao arrived at the city gate with her servants.

This time, it was Xiang Weinan who was seeing her off, and the two groups met at the city gate.

Xiang Weinan then asked Meng Pei and the escorts for assistance in escorting them, even though Xiao had brought guards with her.

Without hesitation, Meng Pei agreed, and after chatting for a while at the gate, they set off.

Sitting inside the carriage, Xiao looked out the window at the man and woman standing not far away, her eyes full of envy.

Nanny Gu sighed, “Miss, stop looking.”

“Nanny, do you think if I had said yesterday that I wanted to be friends with Monarch Lu Xiang, would she have agreed?”

Nanny Gu smiled, “She would naturally agree. Miss, you are the daughter of the Xiao Family and the county magistrate’s madam. So many noble daughters in the capital line up to get close to you, Monarch Lu Xiang…”

“I don’t think she would.” Yet, Xiao shook her head, interrupting Nanny Gu, “She is unlike those noble ladies I met in the capital, unlike the women in the Xiao and Xiang families’ backyards. Her eyes never seem limited to the narrow confines she stands in. At such a young age, she has been to the place of exile, became Monarch Lu Xiang, and went alone to the capital. She seems to need no one to rely on to get what she wants.”

If it were someone else, becoming a Village Chief would naturally mean using that identity to build connections and show off, like County Magistrate Zhang who acts like a noble lady of esteemed status in the small Dongan Province.

But what about her? After becoming a Village Chief, she quietly returned to farming and setting up workshops, rolling up her sleeves to harvest in the fields herself, guarding that small workshop day and night, too busy to even go home.

Seeing such a Lu Shuyu, Xiao unexpectedly found herself feeling quite envious.
