The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Chapter 1115: Chapter 1115: Bringing Good News to Song Xin

Meng Yunzheng nodded affirmatively, “Yes, I am certain, Your Majesty.”

“Good, then I will grant you this request,” the Emperor raised his voice, unable to suppress a couple of coughs.

Listening to this voice, Meng Yunzheng felt that indeed the Emperor could endure for a while longer.

In his heart he pondered, yet on the surface, he respectfully and gratefully knelt down to thank him for the grace.

Once the matters were discussed, what followed in the early morning court was unrelated to him, so Meng Yunzheng withdrew from the great hall.

After waiting for a moment in a side hall, the signal to dismiss the court came. The Emperor truly could not bear it; today’s early court had gone on a bit long, and it was already not easy for him to hold out until now.

Ministers began to trickle out, discussing as they went the content of the court, with most talk centering around Meng Yunzheng.

But at this moment, Meng Yunzheng had already left the palace gate ahead of them. Outside, many carriages and sedan chairs were parked; he weaved through them and finally stopped in front of an unremarkable carriage.

“He’s out.”

Ying Xi, who was sitting on the carriage shaft, hurriedly turned his head to speak to the person inside the carriage.

Shu Yu lifted the curtain and indeed saw him standing before her with a bright smile.

Meng Yunzheng stepped onto the carriage, and as soon as he was seated securely, the carriage rolled away from the gates of the Imperial Palace.

Shu Yu poured him a cup of water, and after seeing him drink it, she asked, “How did it go?”

“The Emperor agreed to allow me to return to my hometown.”

As for some additional monetary rewards, they were just icing on the cake.

But just thinking of Qi Chan wanting him to stay and speaking those words made him involuntarily feel a headache.

Somehow, he had an intuition that Qi Chan did not seem to be someone who would easily give up.

However, now was not the time to care about this. Their carriage, instead of heading towards the little courtyard in the south of the city, went all the way towards the outskirts of the city.

Under Meng Yunzheng’s direction, Ying Xi quickly arrived at the foot of a mountain.

Shu Yu got off the carriage, and Meng Yunzheng also retrieved incense, candles, and paper money from the vehicle, and the two of them proceeded hand in hand up the mountain.

Gong Qiu had already been executed yesterday; the Emperor did not intend to delay for too long. His hatred for Gong Qiu was profound; the man not only brought him shame by making him raise his son but almost had the throne fall into his hands.

The Emperor wished he could dismember him by a thousand cuts and could not wait until the autumn to deal with him, to avoid any unforeseen complications.

According to Shu Yu’s thoughts, she believed the Emperor’s health was failing; he could not possibly allow Gong Qiu to live longer than himself.

Therefore, the date for his execution was swiftly set.

At the time, many came to rescue the prisoner, causing quite a commotion.

But the execution grounds were heavily guarded. Not only did Gong Qiu’s people fail to rescue him, they even got themselves captured.

With Gong Qiu dead, Meng Yunzheng naturally wanted to bring this good news to his mother.

Song Xin’s tomb was in the suburbs, not part of the Gong family’s ancestral graves; it was a separate piece of land.

After she passed away, Gong Qiu claimed she was his concubine and brought her ashes back to the Capital.

However, upon bringing them back, Madam Gong reacted strongly, saying she was one of “The ones locked outside” and had no right to be buried in the Gong family ancestral graves.

At that time, Gong Qiu had just brought Meng Yunzheng back, which had already displeased Madam Gong. Therefore, regarding Song Xin’s matter, Gong Qiu did not wish to have further conflict with her, especially since he was also very dissatisfied with Song Xin, so he simply agreed with her and had Song Xin buried in the suburbs separately.

However, for Meng Yunzheng, this turned out to be a good thing.

His mother was a person of the Meng family; being buried in the Gong family would have tainted her, leaving her restless even in death.
